Cassian Andor fanart
Wanted to draw Cassian for awhile, and the Andor series has gorgeous visuals.
There is a wound that wonāt heal at the center of the galaxy. There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now itās here. Itās here, and itās not visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness; it is never more alive than when we sleep.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), dir. Gareth Edwards
not pictured me actively sobbing on my couch because:
the cave (which has been growing brighter with cassian around) was illuminated with the strength of a sun!!!
the walls turned to dust and there was no longer a cave but only her spirit and heart and everything she had ever been!!! daughter fighter prisoner champion friend!!
that all burned away and she was at peace and became one with the force!!!!

Rebelcaptain and name symbolism
Looking up the meanings of Rebelcaptain relevant names is always such a wild ride because
Cassian Andor - means empty and person, but that also means it can be read as space personified.
Kassa means home.
Kerri ended up being a memory he carried with him all his life.
He also ends up partnering with a woman who takes the alias Liana, which is the name of a plant, notorious for being good for climbing. Y'know, like Cassian climbs rebellion to freedom and victory for all of his life until he finally gets to the top of the tower and aids Jyn in her battle for freedom and victory.
And then there's the fact that all the Erso Family's names are associated with the sky: Galen (Wind), Lyra (collection of stars), Aria Prime, Lyra's home world), means The first air. Jyn takes names like Kestrel and Dawn.
While Cassian is given sky kyber which matches the necklace of kyber crystal the daughter of the Sky family carries, a daughter whiose parents were married in a crystal cave on Chandrilla - a world notorious for its extreme faith in soulmates and force bonds.
(Not to mention said daughter can't fly on her own, but Cassian can, ultimately becoming her wings)
And then there is Lyra, whose name alludes to two different sets of fated lovers. One of which being the Weaver Girl and the Cow Herd from Chinese, Japanese and Korean folklore.
The story goes that an immortal princess fell in love with a mortal cow herd. She ran away from heaven to be with her love, they got married and had two children. But her father was furious and stole her away, placing her back into the sky and separating her from her home with a river of stars (Stardust). She cried and cried in her loneliness eventually magpies or ravens or rooks, depending on the story, took pity on her and formed a bridge to reunite her with her love and home once a year before they have to separate again.
You know... just like Bodhi Rook was the catalyst of Cassian and Jyn uniting.
Last but not least, with all the parallels between Cassian and Lyra's confrontations with Krennick, it's interesting that Lyra is often referred to as the Falling Eagle, and Altair (the star for the Cow Herd) is referred to as the Rising Eagle.
And since Erso is the name of a martriarchal line of women, and the name of that matriarch was Lyra, which is a reference to one of the oldest greek stories we still have access to, then Erso might not be a random set of letters either, but a purposeful misspelling of the name of the god of love, Erso.
In which case Jyn Erso would refer to a wishfulling fire spirit and the god of love, meaning it would connote "a wish answered by love" or " a wish of love".
quick n dirty piece bc I couldn't get this line out of my head

THE TIME GRAPPLER OF FERRIX
#started from the bottom, now weāre here
i think diego luna has no idea of how the quote ācassian sees a lot of himself in jyn and that hurts, the mirror hurtsā makes the rebelcaptain shippers go insane. he doesnāt know his power
looks like this one wasnāt enough so he went with āthe hug represents everything that could have been but didnāt happenā and ātheir union would last foreverā yes I think he does it on purpose
Andor 1.08 Narkina 5 // 1.12 Rix Road
I didnāt think it was possible to love Diego Luna more than Iāve already come to after watching him in (Rogue One and) Andorā¦.aaand then I read this article š„²
Diego Luna Reveals Which āAndorā Scene Made Him Cry on Set
āWell, I was walking underneath Ferrix [and] the director started playing the words of Maarva. So I was listening to the music in a moment, and then the words. With the music, it was just before the words. Letās talk about the music. Iām walking underneath Ferrix, and Iām hearing the music, and I just started crying. I didnāt want the character to cry there. It was like, āShit, no, this canāt be happening.ā I got so emotional. So emotional. And it means a lot to me, on a personal level. That relation of Cassian and Maarva, and the way she ends up setting him in the right direction. I think itās such a strong, strong piece of Cassianās story, and I get emotional just by talking about it. It is, for me, the strongest relation, and itās clearly Maarvaās example [that] sets him in that ride that will end in Rogue One. It was really tough to keep my emotions. To keep it strong because I didnāt want him to break there. It had to be later on. I didnāt want it to break there, and it was impossible.ā
What are the odds of Jyn and Cassian being exactly where they needed to be to land on Scarif that day and transmit the Death Star plans just in time?
It has to be something like one in a million, maybe less. It's something I could only describe as their fate.
For Jyn, she grows up along the creation of the Death Star. The very thing Galen is researching before she is even born will mean her death. As she plays quietly, Galen is in the very next room figuring formulas that will mean her death.
For Cassian, he has a direct role in building the Death Star. On Narkina-5, he, Melshi, and thousands of others are a piece of the puzzle that will kill him and so many others. He is building his death and will never know it.
And yet, the timing still falls just-so for the Scarif mission to succeed.
Galen realizes what his work is building, chooses Lyra and Jyn, and goes into hiding on Lah'mu. This delays the Death Star.
Cassian inspires Kino to lead the escape from Narkina-5, shutting down the prison in the process. This delays the Death Star.
Even more importantly, these delays allow Cassian and Jyn to become the people they must be for that day on Scarif to succeed.
So many things had to happen just perfectly for Scarif to happen. What if Cassian arrived ten minutes later to the brothel in the search for his sister, and the cops were gone? What if Galen and Lyra left Coruscant for Lah'mu ten minutes too late?
It's millions of choices.
Choices that don't even concern Jyn and Cassian too.
Choices coming from Bodhi, Chirrut, and Baze among others.
For narrative purposes, of course they're in the right place at the right time. No story can exist without particular timing.
But to look at Rogue One, it's just fascinating to think how particular that timing is.
Or, maybe... None of that even matters.
What does ten minutes mean to fate?
Possibly nothing.
mutuals! turn my remains into a brick after i die so u can beat the shit out of fascists!
