Rios, having obviously been through hell, has literally compartmentalized himself, entrusting his vulnerable, open, hopeful, trusting side to a virtual surrogate, and I love him all the more for it.

Meanwhile I’m trying to figure out how intelligent and autonomous a hologram can be without falling under the ban on synths. Or is the distinction that he’s not physically autonomous, as a projection from the ship’s computer? Are emergency holograms no longer permitted to have/simulate solid form, to ban them from operating controls? What security protocols are there? I wonder whether the showrunners have given this the thought I am.
