Look Back Fondly || Roman & Din
Din felt the fear emitting off the vampire at the sight of the fireball. He knew what he was doing when he conjured it up. Din wanted to show dominance. He wasnât afraid to use his powers. It had gotten him in trouble more often than not, but Din usually had the last say on matters because he could overpower most with the flick of the wrist. He looked small, but my, was he mighty. In addition to the fear, Din could sense confusion. He could tell the otherâs thoughts were scattered.
âListen witch,â he started, and Din laughed. Roman seemed unsure, his voice held an uncertainty that Din understood. Gifts of memory were strong and it could make people feel disorientated for some time afterwards. This one probably felt especially real considering Roman had been longing for this for some time.
âI need you to answer some questions,â he continued. He finished by telling Din to stand. He did. He raised from his knees in one graceful motion, still keeping the hand not clasped in Romanâs shown and visible, to let the other know that he too wouldnât hurt him. The next thing that came from the vampireâs mouth was a litany of questions. Dinâs head spun. He hated questions in the first place, and he hated talking. The amount of words that were sped off in such a small amount of time confused Din. He cocked his head sideways much like a dog to show the confusion. He scratched his head and thought of were to start. He thought that really the only way to show the vampire was to use words and Din dreaded that conclusion.
Though no one was around, Din decided to speak to Romanâs mind. He much preferred it to spoken word. Plus, he thought that it might emphasis on some of the points he was trying to make.
âIt was real. One of my own,â he told the other. The words traveled from his mind to the otherâs, the air around the pair completely silent. He let the words register on the vampire before trying to continue. There had been so many questions and Din was still unsure of where to start and how many to respond to. âI read your mind. I could feel your pain and longing, and wanted to gift you with a memory of something you can no longer experience. Iâm sorry it upset you.â
While Din could sense Romanâs discomfort, the vampire too could sense Dinâs at the questions, so he chose not to prod much more, though his mind begged him to. He had not been one to be fond of magic since he was very young, the black scar on his chest only serving as a now constant reminder of what exactly witches could do, even to those as strong as him.
But this particular witch had given him a gift. An incredible gift. So much so, that Roman almost felt the warmth of the long lost sun on his golden skin even now. But with this gift came a sacrifice as well. He was reminded that the sun that he had once loved was now a dangerous force to him. That he would never truly feel that warmth again, lest he look death in the face. Suddenly, though, it was something his mind was pondering.
âThank you. â he said simply, aloud, not wanting to meddle in a witchâs head anymore than need be. âI thank you for your gift, thoughâŠshocking. â He paused, shifting his weight from foot to foot, his mind still moving a thousand miles a minute. He simply wasnât sure what to make of this encounter. âMy name is Roman De Hayesworth. I have been without the sun for many years. So I thank you for your gift, though I fear it has awakened something buried within me. I am simply not certain what to do with all of this. Especially considering..what you are. I havenât had generally pleasant experiences with your kind in the past. â
