Maybe it was the drink but Van’s new acquaintance looked a lot like the notorious criminal Roman Torchwick, it was probably the hair. There was no way it could be him right? 

His ears shifted to focus in more on the guy’s voice which was muffled by the table.

“You know what? I should!” He nodded his head vigorously as he agreed. “My ears should just add more to my charm.” His speech was slurred showing the state of his intoxication, he took another swig of his drink finishing it off quickly.

Roman’s head suddenly whipped up from where it lay prone on the table, and he leaned towards Van, teetering precariously.

“In my opinion, don’t tell anyone okay? Don’t tell anyone. I think some faunus are really really cute, and you should kill your boss for thinking otherwise. I’ll kill your boss!” He adjusted his hat indignantly as it slowly slipped off his head, and looked expectantly at his new friend.

Van flinched nearly dropping the now empty glass bottle, he squinted at the male. Wow. He really looked like Roman Torchwick, but from what he had heard on the news Torchwick was dead or at least assumed to be.

“No no no..” The rabbit shook his head vigorously long white ears swaying as he did. “Murder kinda a crime y'know so it’s not a good idea..” He informed patting his new acquaintance on the shoulder as if to console him on the “new” information, he glanced towards the bartender signaling that he wanted another beer.

"No, trust me okay. Have I ever led you astray? No." Roman stood up, tugging insistently at Van's arm to drag him out of the bar. His cheeks were flushed with inebriation and he briefly paused in his attempt as he was sidetracked by Van's ears swaying with his motion but determinedly returned to his task.

“Your a guest of Lyon, but he hasn’t spoken a word of you since he and I met, so he merely saved you from the brink of death, as of right now, he’s trying to remember who you were.” She spoke and stopped turning to him her bat raised now in hand as it was a inch away from a wound.

“Your only reason of your continued existence is because of his forgiveness, misuse it, and you will be dealt with in such a slow manner, that death will be delighted to take your spirit to the void.”

The slightest tension in Roman’s jaw was the only indicator that he was at all displeased by her threat. And displeased was a mild word for the irritation he felt coiling in his gut, but there simply wasn’t anything he could do about that.

Like she said, he was currently at the mercy of his host's generosity, and as impulsive as he was, Roman was not suicidal. "My my, quite the drama queen aren't we?"

“What did you do to the big bag of dust?” She asked him as she took another drink from the flask.

"I dropped it. It simply didn't seem important at the time." Roman shrugged casually, not giving the abandoned dust a second thought. "Perhaps I'd still have it if you hadn't nearly gotten yourself killed." He admonished, no real venom in his voice.

Roman stood a bit taller and prouder at the mention of the chaos in Remanent and preened. “Well, I probably shouldn’t say, but yes. I wouldn’t call myself one of the mongrels but I did work with them. That’s my work.” He waves at the billowing pillar of smoke that used to be the crashed Atlas ship.

Roman raised an eyebrow challengingly and bared his teeth in a grin. “Do you have a problem with that?”

Roman’s demeanor made clear his view on the situation, and his word use his view of the White Fang. Even before he pointed out the downed aircraft though, Arazel was set on being unimpressed. 

“I would have a problem with that, however I do not intend on doing anything to you right now. You are better alive then dead, and I doubt you would answer any questions I ask about your collaborators.”

Despite that last statement, he decided to ask questions anyways.

“Still… besides the White Fang, who else have you been working with? And what do you intend to do now?”

"Cinder Fall, mostly." Roman kept his reply short and useless, aware that Cinder had already revealed herself to most of the city so she wouldn't begrudge him the answer.

"And who knows what's next. Whatever she says is next, I suppose." A heavy amount of bitter sarcasm unintentionally spilt into that statement, as he allowed his resentment of being under the girl's thumb to slip through.

Truthfully, he wanted out. Whatever was happening now, it was clear something had gone wrong and Roman did not like the thought that he might be on the losing side. It was best to retreat and wait for everything to settle before he rejoined the fight.

Neo’s eyes widen to what she just saw. She want to say something but nothing came out. After a few minutes of silent. “R-roman i’m so sorry I didn’t mean to make you worry or fail the hiest.” She apologized.

Roman’s mouth was pressed into a hard line and he remained silent, not responding till they arrived at the house.

When they passed the threshold of their safe house, he set her down on the sofa and took a step back. Emrald eyes slipped shut and he pressed a hand to his forehead, exhaling very slowly in an attempt to ease his harsh breathing.

“You. Can never. Do that again.” He enounciated sharply, the rough tone of his voice in direct contrast with his actions as he tenderly stroked her hair, running his hand gently through the dual colored strands.

“O-okay….i’m so sorry” she said as tears came down her eyes. Neo got some medication and try to disinfect the wound. She try not to scream as she continued.

Roman’s eyes flickered open when his breathing finally slowed down, and he sighed at the sight before him.

“Come here.” He didn’t give her much of a choice as he sat down on the couch and moved so she was resting on his lap.

“To dull the pain. Drink.” He ordered, pulling out a flask from his coat that smelled strongly of whiskey and leaned it towards Neo.

Neo wipped away her tears as she took the flask and drank some. She sighed as she took the bandages and began to wrap her ankle. “R-roman can ask you something.” Neo asked him still in a shock state of mind.

"Go ahead." Roman nodded stiffly, grabbing the bandages from her hand to resume the job with a gentler touch.

There was still this agitation stirring in him and the redhead simply didn't know how to process it. It felt an awful lot like worry. He hated it. It had been so long since he'd felt this strongly about another person, he was simply at a loss what to do.

Roman eyed the girl shivering pitifully next to him, and a little sigh of exasperation escaped him. Without a world acknowledging his actions, he slung his arm around her shoulders, tucking her small frame closer to him. While he was soaked as well, the warm wool of his coat still kept him generating plenty of heat. 

“Good call. Can’t have you getting hypothermia on our first day here, mega milk.” He tugged her towards the door, shoving his way through the crowds and holding Saya tighter to ensure she didn’t get swept away in the sea of people. 

          The sudden weight around her body caused her to squeak softly in surprise. It was much warmer and the involuntary shivering ceased for a moment as she glanced up at Roman’s face. He wasn’t as much of a flaky guy as she had initially thought. Her surprise melted in to a tiny pleased smile as she settled on that idea, thus solidifying her absolute trust.

          Saya nods her head in agreement to his words as both her hands clutched his coat as Roman lead them both indoors. The hall itself was expansive and empty except for the stairs that lead to the stage. The whole building was mildly unnerving, perhaps it was because of the situation she found herself in? The others who had went inside, they spoke amongst themselves. After taking a step away, she turned to her red-headed companion, her hands wringing out her soaked t-shirt. She wasn’t shuddering, but her expression showed clear exhaustion.

                 「 Man… I’m going to absolutely get a coat from the Bunny store after this… Are you doing okay, though?」

Roman's eyes flitted to the sliver of skin revealed when Saya half lifted her shirt to wring it out and just as quickly flitted away, his cheeks not turning red only by sheer will power. "Hm? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I've lived in much worse conditions than this." He waved his hand dismissively, giving the statement no more thought. Compared to his allies, he had it fairly easy. He started on the street like many others, but was quickly accepted into his syndicate, the White Fang.

She nodded again as she put most the dust crystal in the bag and took some Ice Dust. “Hey roman hunters gonna show up in a few minutes.” Neo said. “You can take the dust i’ll take care of the hunters.” She added.

“Will do. Go get them, love.” Roman continued tossing crystals into the bag, humming a jovial tune. He kept an ear on the conflict outside, more out of habit than anything else; he was rather unconcerned for Neo, they’d done this enough without either of them getting injured for a very long time. Still, there was always the slim chance…

Neo was doing fine fighting the hunters until one of them shot her right ankle. One of the hunter was about to shoot her again until she turned into shattered glass and appeared next to roman in the alleyway.

Roman jumped when Neo suddenly appeared next to him, his cane instinctively raised at the sudden movement. The casual smirk was wiped off his face at the sight of his companion bleeding, and his fingers slackened in surprise, the bag of dust dropping to the ground with a clatter.

For once, he remained silent. He only placed a reassuring hand on Neo’s head, and stormed past her, emerald eyes seeing nothing but red. The strength his rage lent him allowed him to dispatch the hunters with a ferocious joy, and he was almost sorry when it was over. 

When a sufficient amount of blood had been spilt, Roman returned quickly to Neo’s side, stroking her face tenderly with blood soaked fingers, leaving streaks of red on her pale skin. He remained silent as he picked her up, and turned away to head to the nearest safe house as fast as possible.
