the way people talk about carlton as if heās this horrible abusive asshole whoās just like lonnie when literally all he did was buy will a drink and hold his hand. the insane levels of homophobia in the bylr fandom needs to be studied.
Well, haven't you heard? It is not homophobic to joke about killing a canonically gay character, the only guy in canon to have romantic interest in Will. It is, however, homophobic to acknowledge that Mike is straight in canon. Maybe you didn't know that before because you don't have their many #filmdegrees and all that #medialiteracy. Homophobia is when someone is mean about my favorite white straight boy.
This being the way the average byler speaks about Carlton on a regular basis.

One of the most actually braindead takes I saw people make post-finale was that Mike was messed up for having El be a character in their final D&D game because El didnāt want to be a hero and she ādidnāt like/never played dungeons and dragonsā because it completely missed the point of that scene.
D&D is the thing that brought all the boys together. It made them who they are. It bonded them. We know that throughout the series D&D plays a major role.
Mike writing El in as the mage NPC isnāt him making her a hero, itās him including her. In the first episode of the show the party is Mike, Lucas, Will and Dustin playing D&D. Thatās how weāre introduced to them, thatās how we know theyāre friends. That scene in the finale is meant to parallel that first scene. But whatās different? right, Max is there. Max is a part of the party now. Obviously Max has been a member of the party for a while, but this is a visual way to represent that. āLook at the first scene of the series compared to the last scene and see how far theyāve comeā
The reason he writes El in as the mage isnāt him āmaking her the heroā, itās him saying sheās a part of the party. Sheās not there physically, but she was. El was there. She is one of them. Thatās the point. Itās not to force her into being something she doesnāt want to be, itās to honor the fact that she is one of them, dead or alive.
