Legends Romcom Week: Florist Sara + Tattoo Artist Kendra AU “So,” Sara says, her trying to keep her thoughts from wandering to Thai Restaurants and dates in Hong Kong. “Do you like, see tattoos on people?” Kendra’s lipstick is on her straw, the one she uses to idly stir her iced tea. “You mean like, do I fix tattoos or-” “No I mean,” Sara says. “When you see someone. Like a stranger. Do you imagine what kind of tattoos you’d give them?” “Dunno,” Kendra says. “That’s not really what I daydream about. I don’t usually visualize things until I work with someone, you know? You never know what someone is going to want until you get to know them and even then. People surprise you.” “So you haven’t thought about me, then?” Sara asks, waiting as Kendra takes a forkful of noodles. “I thought you might have some ideas.” “All I know is that you’re afraid of needles,” Kendra says. “So I figured giving you a tattoo is out of the question.” “I’m not that scared,” Sara says, flaring her nostrils. “Your ears aren’t pierced,” Kendra says, and Sara feels her fingers reaching for her earlobe before she catches herself. “What about me?” Kendra asks. “You didn’t bring me flowers.” “Should I?” Sara asks. “You’re a florist,” Kendra says. “Uh, in training,” Sara says. “Right now I’m still just doing deliveries.” “So you didn’t think about it?” Kendra asks, leaning forward, chin in hand. She has eyes that swallow candlelight, hair that falls over her shoulders in waves. “The roses you want to get me?” “Not roses,” Sara says. “Never- I don’t like roses.” “Oh?” Kendra says. “They’re liar flowers,” Sara says. “They’re what you get when you’re not… thinking about the person. I would get you uh- sunflowers. Because you-” She looks at Kendra’s lips, the hint of her smile. “They remind me of you.” “I think,” Kendra says, reaching her free hand across the table. She brushes her fingers against the back of Sara’s hand. “I would like to see your back.” “What?” Sara says. “Because you have so many freckles on your face and chest,” Kendra says. “So I’d want to see your back. Use your freckles to map a constellation, or something. That’s what I think I’d want to give you a tattoo of.” Sara feels goosebumps prick at the back of her arms.
