London Real is not as “pure” as it was early on, with their membership site and Brian’s constant plugging of it at awkward moments.
That said, the meat of the show, the interviews, thoughts, and genuine purpose of giving people information that will help them become the best version of themselves, is excellent.
This recent webcast with Jamie Alderton had some great information. I’m restructuring my own nutrition plan this week to see how I respond.
I’m currently doing my WOD at 5:30am each morning, and training karate at night twice a week. Until now, I’ve been on a CBL template, saving my carbs for my final meal. With that said, training twice a day some days is taxing when I’m low carb all day.
Three years ago, I dropped 70 pounds on a general paleo plan. This included carbs throughout the day, so I know I can drop weight without extreme nutrient timing.
So, new plan to maintain current weight while doing CrossFit and martial arts:
120g carbs // 120g fat // 210g protein
Probably doing to drop fats and up carbs if the training load starts to wear me down. And as I continue to work, I’ll probably need to reverse diet my calories up.
Coming back from a workout in the mornings, I chug a coconut water (not opposed to Gatorade, just don’t care for it) and split the rest of my day’s intake into 3-4 high-protein meals with most of my carbs in the evening.
Food choices will stay paleo-ish for a few reasons:
It’s easier to track macros using single ingredient foods. I don’t mind a little extra prep time to cook my own meals. Part of the game.
I just feel better eating clean. Veggies, proteins, starches, healthy fats. I enjoy the food and it makes me feel good.
When I do feel like eating some pizza or doughnuts, it does me a psychological favor. Knowing that I’m going back to a “clean” meal plan after a cheesy, greasy, glutenous meal removes any doubt that I will have difficulty returning to baseline weight/water retention, etc.
I’m really new to metcons, and the coach at my gym does not pretend to be a nutritionist, so he does not give very specific advice, which I actually appreciate (I prefer no good answer to someone who pretends to be an expert and spins a line of BS). So, if anyone has some constructive input, I appreciate it.
