Of King Baelon and the Dragons He Raised: Being Ten Years of His Reign
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
Baelon, the spring prince, does not die of a burst belly and Otto Hightower does not become Hand to Jahaerys. When Baelon becomes king after his father, his two sons become his heirs and Viserys, the firstborn, is slowly adjusted to what it means to rule a kingdom and take responsibility (maybe he gets a position on the small council, working himself up to become hand or something)
Of course, Baelon loves both of his sons equally and adores his first grandchild Rhaenyra. So after not too much convincing, and careful consideration and input from his kinsmen of the Vale, he dissolves Daemon's first marriage, as he cannot bear to see his son so discontent.
But Baelon, in contrast to Viserys, is not blind. He sees Rhaenyra's affection for her uncle, the way even as a child she clings to him, begs him to take her with him when he goes on an adventure and wants to go flying with him. And Baelon knows his youngest son, knows the slight he perceived of not having a Valyrian bride...
So he betrothes Daemon to Rhaenyra...
Sins of the Flesh AU
Rhaenyra lives under strict rules of faith and silence in an Amish community, her world untouched by sin.
When her uncle Daemon returns after ten years, fleeing legal trouble and carrying the stain of a rock starâs excess, his presence fractures her sheltered life.
He plans to leave again within a year, back to his dangerous fame, but the time between them becomes a descent into temptation, secrecy, and a bond that should never exist.
The Quiet Hours We Burn
Beth accepts the nanny position because itâs her only path to a better future. The pay is good, the expectations are strict, and the number one rule is absolute: do not get romantically involved with anyone on the staff.
Then she meets Rio.
Heâs been the familyâs driver for two years - a once ambitious athlete whose dreams died with a single injury. Quiet. Controlled. Impossible not to notice. They both know how quickly the wealthy can fire people for stepping out of line. They both know what they stand to lose.
But attraction doesnât listen to rules.
Falling Shadows
She had once been a princess of wealth and privilege, sharp words and cruel smiles her crown. She had looked down on everyone beneath her⊠including him.
Now the silk is gone. The golden gates are gone. She works quietly, earning her place in a company far from her old life, unaware of the eyes that have always followed her.
For six months, he watches from the shadows â calm, patient, never forgotten. The boy she had bullied, the son of the servants, has grown. Stronger. Sharper.
And then one day, their worlds collide. He stands before her, and suddenly she feels a flicker of recognition. He remembers. And slowly⊠she begins to remember him too.
A past she had once ruled now watches her from the present, waiting.
Daemon as a hitman and Rhaenyra as a singer at the nightclub he frequents đđ€
Rhaenyra was the heiress to a mafia empire, trained since childhood to lead. But her family was wiped out in a violent power shift. Someone wanted the throne â and they succeeded.
Daemon found her barely alive. She didnât remember anything.
So he erased her past â and built her a new life.
New documents.
New home.
New identity: Nyra Vale.
She believes sheâs just a nightclub singer.
But she was born to rule.
WW2 au - Rhaenyra is a spy and she fell in love with an enemy soldier. Daemon knows she's his enemy but helps her escape out of his love for her
WW2
When the war breaks out, Rhaenyra Targaryen is forced into a new role: secretary to Daemon von Drachendorf â a powerful high ranking Nazi officer.
She becomes the perfect spy⊠right under his command.
fantasy au - a witch (rhaenyra) finds an unconscious warrior (daemon ) in the woods
A Witch and the Warrior
As her magic seeped into his wounds, something stirred beneath his skin â an echo, a pulse older than his life. She frowned. Warriors bled like men⊠but his blood felt heavier, threaded with power he didn't seem aware of. The prophecy returned to her like an unwelcome ghost: When a king without a crown bleeds, the world will change its throne. He didnât look like a king. His clothes were worn, his armor battered, his body built for war rather than rule. He was no noble, no prince â just a man who had survived too many battles. And yet⊠the magic did not lie. Royal blood flowed through him, buried beneath scars and silence.
He might not know it. He might never want it. But destiny, she realized, does not ask for permission.
i don't know why i thought about this but here we go... the count of monte cristo au with daemon as edmond dantÚs and rhaenyra as haydée
Monte Cristo Daemyra AU
Freedom tasted strange after so many years in the dark. Daemon moved through the world like a man reborn, sharpened by betrayal, sculpted by time. The name he once bore no longer belonged to him; he had forged a new one, built on secrets, fortune, and vengeance. And then he found her - Rhaenyra. A girl whose past was as bruised as his own.
mafia: the old country au but daemyra.
through grit and determination, daemon has survived a childhood of indentured labor in hellish sulfur mines. now, through a twist of fate, he has the opportunity to join don targaryenâs crime family, and will do whatever it takes to carve out a better life for himself.
raised in privilege on her fatherâs vineyard, rhaenyra grew up feeling isolated, especially after her motherâs death. though kept at a distance from his underworld connections, she was never blind to her fatherâs crimes. she disapproves of his actions but feels powerless to stop him. pulled between duty and dreams of escape, she longs to leave dragonstone and the shadow of her family name. unbeknownst to her father, she is in a relationship with daemon, his new recruit.
Vines of Blood
The moon hung low over the vineyard, silver light spilling across the neat rows of grapevines. The air smelled of earth and crushed fruit, sharp with the promise of autumn. Rhaenyra slipped through the shadows, careful to avoid the watchful eyes of the estate guards. Her heart hammered in her chest, equal parts fear and anticipation.
He was waiting where the vines dipped near the old stone wall, leaning against it with that dangerous, easy confidence that always made her breath catch. Daemonâs coat was open, revealing the dark shirt beneath, sleeves rolled up. The faint glow of the moon traced the line of his jaw, sharp as a knife.
âYouâre late,â he said, but his voice held no anger. Only relief, and something softer, almost tender.
âI had to make sure no one saw me,â she whispered, stepping closer, the hem of her dress brushing against the dry grass. She hated the secrecy, hated that even here, she had to be careful. âIf Father knew-â
Daemon lifted a hand, silencing her without touching her. âDonât speak that name tonight. Out here, youâre not his daughter. Youâre just⊠you.â
She felt a shiver run down her spine at the weight in his words, at the way he looked at her - like he could see every secret thought and still choose her anyway.
âI shouldnât,â she murmured, stepping closer, reckless despite herself. âI shouldnât want this⊠want you.â
âThen do it anyway,â he said, and suddenly he was in front of her, close enough that she could feel the heat from his body. His hands hovered, just barely brushing her shoulders, not yet claiming, only testing.
The wind shifted, rustling the leaves, and for a moment, the world held its breath. Then he leaned down, just enough for their foreheads to touch, eyes locked. âRhaenyra,â he breathed, low and rough, ânothing about us is safe. But neither is anything worth having.â
She closed her eyes, letting herself lean into him. Their lips didnât meet yet, but the tension was electric, a promise that whatever danger waited in the shadows, whatever threats her family might pose, they would face it together.
Somewhere in the distance, the faint echo of a guardâs steps reminded her that this freedom was fleeting. But for now, the night belonged to them.
this has been on my mind since forever
i was thinking of a daemyra au but with a mix of atla. the targs are obviously firebenders... daemon and rhaenyra are either cousins at the same age or twins (it depends), with daemon being like zuko (hot-headed) and rhaenyra being like azula (ruthless and manipulative)
add to that the âš sexual tension âš between them
...and Viserys being an idiot as always. So maybe he was usurped in the end despite having Otto as his "trusted advisor."
Twins AU
âThey were the fire he tried to control â but fire never serves, it consumes.â
The palace holds its breath, as if aware that something is about to unfold. The silence and tension are almost tangible, perhaps because Rhaenyra knows what lies ahead.
She hadn't planned to come to the throne room tonight. Not this late. But as she wandered the darkened halls, ghost-like, her steps led her here, to stand before the iron throne.
Of course, the throne isnât alive, itâs cold and unmoving. Yet, as she stands there, Rhaenyra feels the iron hum with the blood and fire of her ancestors, as if the metal itself pulses with their restless spirits. She gazes at it, and she almost sees her father's face reflected in the blades, pale and soft, unworthy of the flames that forged them.
Rhaenyra senses the air shift, a subtle movement in the silence. But she doesnât turn away from the blades, knowing precisely who has entered the chamber.
Daemonâs steps are silent but unmistakable. She knows how he moves, she knows how he breathes.
Sheâs familiar with him.
Flame to flame, heat to heat.
When Daemon speaks, his voice is calm, almost tender.
âHe forgot the first lesson of fire â it obeys no one.â
Rhaenyra doesnât turn to face her brother. She answers quietly, with steady resolve:
âThen let him learn it the hard way.â Her voice steady, but the fire burning within her.
She loves their father, but sometimes love is a blade that cuts deepest. Sometimes, you must cut away that kind of love.
Daemonâs reflection joins hers in the polished steel, and their eyes meet through the warped glass.
âWill you hesitate when itâs time?â she asks him.
âOnly to enjoy the moment,â he replies. And for a heartbeat, she feels the crown already burning between them, a symbol of whatâs to come.
Then she senses his breath at her neck as he steps closer, the scent of smoke, steel, and inevitability filling her lungs. Rhaenyra closes her eyes, steadies herself.
Heâs behind her. The throne is before her.
âThen let it begin,â she whispers quietly.
And beyond the walls, dragons roar â as if the world itself finally remembers who its true heirs are.
Based on Blood: The Last Vampire but role reversal. Daemon, a vampire, is part of a secret government agency that hunts bat-like vampiric creatures called Chiropterans. He is sent to a military school posing as a new student in order to track down and kill the Chiropteran who managed to infiltrate.
At the school, Daemon runs into a nurse, Rhaenyra, on the eve of the school's annual Halloween party and she gets attacked by the Chiropteran also posing as a student.

Lost & Found AU
Beth and Rio had once been close friends, their bond strengthened by the quiet connection they shared as she spent time in her wealthy parentsâ home, while his family worked there. Rio was a year older, and when he turned 18 and Beth was 17, they experienced a brief, tender, but hot romance. But their happiness was short-lived as her parents disapproved vehemently, and their relationship was forcibly torn apart.
Tragedy struck when Rio was falsely accused of theft, an elaborate scheme crafted by Bethâs own parents. Despite his innocence, he was sentenced to prison, leaving Beth heartbroken and powerless. During these years, Beth was sent abroad to a private university in England. She wrote letters to Rio, and he never answered. Beth didn't know he was writing her letters, but they never reached her. All because of her parents.
When Rio was released after three long years, he chose silence, unwilling to reopen wounds. Beth continued her life in London, trying to rebuild herself, burying the pain and longing deep within her heart. Eight years slipped away, filled with memories and unanswered questions.
Then, destiny spun its thread.
Beth returned to Detroit for her wedding, to marry Dean Boland, the son of her fatherâs business partner, as her parents arranged. But fate had other plans. She encountered Rio again, and a flood of emotions surged.
The years apart hadnât dulled their connection; if anything, it had only made their feelings more intense.
At first, blame tainted their reunion as each accusing the other of betrayal, until the truth unfurled. It was her parents who had schemed to keep them apart, destroying their love out of greed and control.
The revelation shattered the barriers between Beth and Rio, replacing pain with understanding and hope.
In the wake of the truth, Beth realized that her heart belonged with Rio.
They chose to leave behind the shadows of the past and, in the end, they chose happiness together.

Yes :)
Prince Viserys made a promise to marry his cousin Lady Aemma and make her his Queen once he became a king but had a change of heart as soon as he took over the throne. He lost interest in her after falling deeply in love with another woman, Lady Alicent Hightower.
Back in the Vale, Aemma married her cousin and gave birth to two children, a son and a daughter whom she named Rhaenyra.
The year is 112 AC. King Viserys currently only has two daughters as he fails to produce a son to carry on his family's legacy. With another child on the way, he believes it will be a boy and a grand tourney is held in King's Landing.
For the first time in many years, the Arryns decided to attend. And during the tourney, Rhaenyra piqued the interest of the king's younger brother who's yet to find a suitable wife.
Queen to be AU
âYou have every chance to become the next queen of Westeros, Rhaenyra,â Laena whispers to her.Â
Itâs just a phrase but it makes Rhaenyra's attention snap immediately from the dancing crowd to Daemon Targaryen. And of course he is looking at her, Princeâs eyes are on her, and after all this time in the capital, she isnât even slightly surprised. After all, he watches her whenever she appears in his field of vision. The attention he gives her, that he doesnât give anyone else, everyone noticed already.Â
âYou can be considered a traitor for such words,â Rhaenira responds, turning her head to Laena. She still feels Daemon's intent gaze on herself.
âI'm just telling the truth. Especially given the situation that is happening,â Laena shrugs, and they both turn their heads to look at the two princesses - Helaena and Rhaella, and then at their mother - Queen Alicent, pregnant with her third child. And something tells Rhaenyra that it will also be a girl.
âAs the Gods disposes,â she says quietly, casting one brief glance back at Daemon before returning her gaze to the dancing crowd.
âI have every chance of becoming the next Queen of Westeros,â Rhaenyra repeats to herself.
She knows history between her mother and King Viserys, and when she was a little bit younger she questioned how her life would turn, if her mother became a Queen, but as Rhaenyra is a girl, not that the throne could be hers anyway. Not that she really wanted that. The only thing, one advantage of being born into the Royal family, she wanted was a dragon. She still wants a dragon.Â
Maybe being married to Daemon will give her that?Â
But itâs too extreme to marry just to get a dragon, isn't it?
Even Daemon looks very handsome, but he is kind of annoying and persuasive, but when she looks at Daemon againâŠ
Maybe she really should think about it âŠÂ
Even if just for a dragon ...
