“Can I help you?”
“Not having a girlfriend.”
“What makes you say that?”
Rose nodded as she squeezed his shoulder. “I’m here if you need to talk, Ronnie.”
“I wouldn’t know what to say,” Ronnie replied with a shrug, “But thanks.”
“Now I know you’re lying to me.”
“About which part?”
“How do you know it didn’t disappear? She’s the one who left without any explanation. If you care about someone, you don’t just leave.”
“But she also cares about her family. If that’s more than me, then I’ll deal with it and if I hear from her, I’ll hear from her. I’ve got plenty of people I care about here, right?”
She smiled apologetically and nodded. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said something.” She whispered as she fiddled with her the bandages. “How are you?”
“Don’t worry about it. Easy mistake to make,” Ronnie shrugged, “I’m not great but I will be.”
“I ran out of contacts.”
“You should wear them more. They look good on you.”
“How could she have cared about you, if she just left without saying anything?”
“You wouldn’t understand, Alex. I know how she felt about me and how I felt about her. We went through a lot of shit to end up together, that doesn’t just disappear overnight.”
Rose raised a brow. “Well then.” She grumbled as she moved to grab the bandages. “I hope he was worth it.” She mumbled before looking at him. “What’s been up with you, Ronnie? You haven’t been the same since….” Rose trailed off. She had a feeling she knew what was wrong with him.
Ronnie just scoffed when he heard what she mumbled and said little else. He should have felt guilty for snapping but in that moment, he didn’t. He might later though. He sighed, “Since my girlfriend up and left without so much as a goodbye, let alone an explanation.”
“Are you sure?” she asked hesitantly, her wind wandering to the thought of Jasmine. Regardless of this, Kendall stood up and took his hand.
Ronnie furrowed his brow, “Why wouldn’t I be sure?” Them dancing together had never been a big deal. They’d done it on many occasions before. Why was now different? Nevertheless, he smiled when she took his hand and immediately twirled her under his arm before pulling her closer to him.
“Anytime brother.”
“So... drinks?”
“I don’t get much choice now, do I?”
“Nope, not at all.”
“They’re just glasses, it’s no big deal. It’s not like this is the first time I’ve worn them.”
“I wasn’t giving any shit to your glasses, Mel. I was just saying you haven’t worn them recently. I was just surprised to see them is all.”
“Duh, you were not supposed to. Your friends, or siblings, or your girlfriend should’ve done it.”
“Well I don’t have very many friends or siblings who can bake very well and I don’t have a girlfriend... anymore. So no cake.”
“Well, it shouldn’t. You shouldn’t care for people who don’t care for you.”
“It’s not exactly something I can help. Besides, she did care about me at some point. But then she just left.”
“They can. It just depends why.” She said as she walked back over and took his chin in her hand, tilting his head up to check out his wounds. “Does the other guy look worse or better than you?”
“I don’t think that’s any of your business,” Ronnie snapped but allowed her to examine his wounds, “Honestly, I can’t really remember.”
