Nic had walking from the local school head down in his bag as he stuffed various papers into it. The transition from teaching in a classroom full of college students to teenagers was taking its toll on the Moroi. In the last three days he’s had a total of five hours sleep and not nearly enough coffee to make up for it. It’s maybe why he doesn’t notice crack in the pavement. Making him lose his balance and trip. He extends his hands to try and catch himself but ends up scraping the skin on his palms instead.
Kneeling on the sidewalk Nic lets out a curse as he cradles his hands to his chest trying not to get blood on his scattered paperwork.
“Nice one,” Ronnie muttered as she looked down on the man who had taken a tumble. She couldn’t help but feel a flicker of amusement at his distress since it was one of the things that fed her these days. With nothing much else to do she kneeled beside him and began to pull together his papers, shifting them towards herself since he seemed to be bleeding. “Take this,” she offered before digging in her bag and pulling out a kleenex which would at least help for the moment.
“What?” Dahliana asked after grabbing a random coffee as the barista slid it across the counter. There was a failed attempt to hide the name scribbled upon the cup – the one that was not hers – she sighed at the pointless attempt given how her exposed binder clearly stated that her name was not Lacey. “Listen, I’m in a rush and it’s not Lacey’s day.”
“Unless, you’re Lacey? — I’ll give you cash.”
“Not Lacey,” Ronnie answered with an amused look. “Although I was a little bit tempted to say so both because of your startled look and the offer of cash. Quick I’ll tell her some guy took her drink. Cover it with one of these,” she offered as she grabbed one of the cup covers meant to keep your drink from burning your hand and held it out to the other.
“And thank the world for me to do so, yes?” The platinum blonde raised her eyebrows, red-rimmed eyes narrowed.
“I’d say so,” Ronnie agreed with a smirk. “If you hadn’t I was truly considering saying something myself so yeah thanks.”
“No occasion. Looking for a bit of fun every now and then never hurt anybody,” Veronika said, chucking another glass at the wall. She had always been a trouble making adrenaline junkie. “Then after this, we get french fries.”
“It’s very rare to find someone who thinks that or at least it has been for me,” Ronnie countered picking up a glass and dropping it casually. “Where have you been all my life,” she inquired as the woman mentioned french fries.
“I thought you might like to know, but my mistake.”
“I am interested in very few things.”
“I only like Easter because of the chocolate, but I miss French chocolate. It was amazing, you should try it sometime.”
“I’m not sure why you’re telling me but okay then.”
“Okay, now you’re really starting to piss me off.”
“Hey they’ve been pissing everyone off all night. You’re just the first to actually say it.”
“ What?! Shit, sorry kind of zoned out a bit there. “ Austin quickly apologized, his head shaking slightly to get him out of the daze he was in. “ But uh, what were you saying? “
“I was saying. Please move yourself a few inches that way so I can grab my bag. You’re blocking the way.”
“Of course. Knock yourself out. There are plenty of ugly things in this establishment.”
“What’s the occasion then,” Ronnie inquired as she picked up a particularly hideous plate and sent it flying frisbee style towards the wall. As it shattered she felt a small thrill roll through her.
“What in the actual fuck are you talking about? Are you okay, lady? Do you need me to call someone to come take care of you?”
“You snapped first, bro. Maybe I need to call someone to come take care of you.”
“If this punishment for something I’ve done wrong I’ll take it but I don’t like it”
“I was joking you know.”
“Why. what did I do to deserve this. I spent seven hours the other day planting trees. The world should love me”
“The world just calls it like it sees it. Maybe you made some mistakes you just couldn’t be forgiven for.”
“Why is everything so bright and loud?”
“Because the world hates you.”
“This is such an ugly glass. I’m surprised that anyone spent money on this. I’m sure they won’t miss it.”
“Oh we’re breaking things now? Can I be next?”
“If there’s a cigarette in my hand that means I’m on break, and I can not help you right now. Feel free to talk to someone inside who isn’t trying to relax. They will gladly help you with whatever you need.”
“Did I ask you for help? Jesus. How about you chill out and stop acting like the world revolves around you just cause someone is standing near you.”
