*wink wink* hello! it’s opening and i’m hyped! i’m jean (21+, s/h) and i’m here with air fairy — or shall i say fAIRy (i’ll show myself out) — and hobby collector, park rorin! got a her info page up and under the cut is a spark note on her and some basic wanted connections. hit the heart and i’ll slide into your dms asap so we can start plotting. i have a discord if anyone wants to plot through that too!
daughter of an air fairy (mother) and fire fairy (father). her parents are that couple™ — both highly successful and loaded, co-owning a security company.
they’re very paranoid about the war, so they’ve decided to drop rorin to SMA so she can start her training while they patrol the walls.
her childhood is pretty much :/
her relationship with her parents is very strained. they want what is best for her, but are quite condescending and dismissive.
because her parents are too busy, her aunt pretty much raises her.
she’s a cool lady! she owns a bookstore (@ central) and rorin works part-time there. she gets paid in books, stationaries, and of course her company.
the bookstore isn’t that busy, tbh, so rorin and her aunt has a lot of spare time. they pick up many hobbies because of that. anything rorin wants to learn, her aunt finds ways to help her.
rorin’s a fast learner, but she gets distracted very easily (case in point, how she changes hobbies every other week). because of that, her parents are very worried about dropping her off at SMA. what if she can’t focus??!!
speaking of SMA, rorin is conflicted about being there because her passion lies elsewhere. she doesn’t know on what, but she knows that it’s not fighting! she initially planned on going to uni before her parents shipped her off to the academy which makes rorin kinda :| but she supposes her parents meant well, so she tries not to complain. fingers crossed she trains well, because rorin knows she’s not the smartest or the most skilled fairy out there.
personality-wise, she’s very friendly and excitable but also very naive and gullible. kinda awkward in the beginning, though once she gets comfortable with people, she becomes more chatty and playful.
wanted connections:
people who finds her weird or endearing! you can find her doing various hobbies around the academy. find her knitting at the northwest courtyard, doing origami in the library, juggling your fruits at the cafeteria.
on that note, if anyone wants to form a little club with her, wouldn’t that be fun!
she’s in an arranged marriage with a fire fairy! i was kinda hoping this could grow into something romantic, because deep down both rorin and i are hopeless romantic. let’s throw in some angst tho, since i’m a sucker for those. be prepared for an inexperienced gf who only knows dating from books and television. also, lowkey rorin feels an immense weight to make this arrangement work because her parents tell her it must.
help her pick out a pet! she’s decided on a name (lord theodore the third!) but she doesn’t have the pet yet lol.
study buddies. she did promise her parents she will try to focus on studying, maybe she sought help from your muse.
someone she meets at her aunt’s bookstore... who she doesn’t realise go to the academy with her. cue, “I DIDN’T KNOW YOU TRAIN HERE TOO!! AHHHH!!!! HOW EXCITING”
good ol’ ‘i’m carrying a cup of coffee — OH NO I TRIPPED ON MY SHOELACES THAT I DON’T EVEN BOTHER TYING. did i just spill my coffee?! I’M SORRY!’ (rorin is the clumsiest i swear).
ok, my brain farted that’s all i got! let’s plot!!!
bitna’s staring now, doesn’t bother with the side-eye, doesn’t pretend she’s still invested in the show. she clears her throat and lifts an accusing finger towards rorin’s drink, “that’s my cup.”
how rorin loves a good cup of hot chocolate. she wishes she could make it from scratch, as in use milk, mix it with chocolate, heat it — however the process goes. rorin is talented in many things, but making hot chocolate traditionally like that? no, not in her skill set.
what a shame!
so, she settles with those ‘ready-to-drink-just-pour-hot-water’ sachets. it does the job! she can’t tell the difference from the real one or taste the chemical. it’s great. she loves it!
humming a tune that she heard somewhere but can’t really place what song it is, rorin takes out a sachet and a cup and fixes herself some hot chocolate. she carries the warm drink to the couch. what’s on the holo-tv now? she sure hopes it’s one of those reality shows where fairies are picking out their wedding dresses. they always look so pretty!
“what are we watching now?” rorin asks quickly before she blows on her drink to cool it off. she takes a sip — whoops! too hot. she coughs and sticks out her tongue and fans some air to the burned area.
that’s my cup.
“oh?” she understands boundaries perfectly well, like when her mother said her office is off limits, or when she said that rorin is not to say anything during dinner with her friends, or when her father said she’s going to poke her eye out if she touches his sword.
okay, bitna. message understood.
“i’m sorry!” rorin quickly sets down the cup on the table. “i didn’t mean to. it’s just that it looks so much like mine, so i thought it’s mine.” she whines before stopping herself — afraid of sounding like some spoiled child. “i feel so bad. it’s a mistake, i swear! it’s even got the same chip that i have on mine. it hit my head when i was reaching for the cup from the top shelf, i caught it, which is impressive but it’s got that chip ever since,” she bites her lips. “but i guess that’s the manufacturer fault... the cup breaks easily, huh?”
narae winced, at least it was still mostly intact but definitely a little damaged and soured the win just slightly. she shoved it into her pocket before continuing to run after the little papers, “remind me to never have paper that isn’t secured in a binder when i’m outside.”
“thank you!” rorin claps in glee. to have help is always nice, especially when chasing after some finicky paper!
(rorin did cause the paper to fly herself, but let’s not talk about that right now.)
the two continue their battle. when the wind blow particularly hard this one time, the lone coffee cup topples over and rorin watches in horror. offendeded, rorin wags her finger and scolds the wind, “you’re naughtier today, huh?” rather than be defeated, rorin only works harder.
and, she must say, their combined efforts is working!
perhaps it’s the happiness from the two slowly succeeding in their mission, perhaps it’s because rorin is slowly forgetting why she was upset in the first place — but the wind is settling down. rather than the previous gust of wind, it’s become more of a gentle breeze. the stack of paper that rorin is clutching in her hand no longer threatens to slip out and fly away and that now allow rorin to focus on her task at hand.
rorin collects the last of the paper and walks towards the other fairy.
“that sounds like a good idea!” rorin agrees. wearing a smile, rorin extends her hand out. “i’m rorin, by the way, thank you so much for helping me! sorry about your coffee...” she trails off. “i can get you a new one! i can make you a crane too if you want!”
her aunt did warn her, ‘don’t bring too much things to the academy, you’ll be busy anyway’, but rorin didn’t heed that advice. what if she gets bored? what if she misses knitting and cooking? what if she misses her collection of finger puppets?
after all, if the dorm is supposed to be her home for the next few... years? (decade?) might as well make herself comfortable!
that’s what she rationalises as she hauls the gigantic box of knick-knacks in her hands. it’s definitely too big for her stature — but for what it’s worth, rorin thinks she’s doing incredibly well!
for this particular box, she can’t use the same technique she used for the previous ones. this box requires more balance, so rorin does not dare to take too big of a step, opting instead for small and steady ones. the small steps also help because she can’t really see her in front of her. the box pretty much blocks her view —
wait!
from her peripheral, she spots @haksuwx‘s shoes. before the box so much as graze him, rorin takes a sharp turn, swerving towards the other way —
“ouch!” rorin yells as she steps on her foot. but, by some miracle, rorin did not tip over. she still stands tall and sturdy. the only casualty in this situation is...
no! she dropped her potted plant!
in the middle of the commotion, she must’ve missed the pot tumbling out of the opened box (she really should’ve closed it) and crashing onto the floor. the clay has shattered into pieces, the soil strewn across the floor, the flower laid limply on top of the chaos.
rorin pouts while setting down the box. if she’s a plant whisperer, she beats she will hear the flower whimpering and breathing heavily, drawing on its last breath.
The day felt like it would never end, the stress of moving in, meeting people she was going to be living with for who knows how long. Narae decided that she deserved a break or at least a coffee break to get back her energy to make it to the end of day. Plus, it would be a good way to get know about some of the campus before classes started up. It didn’t take her long to locate the cafeteria on the first floor and eventually the stand where she grabbed the much needed caffeinated beverage. The architecture inside was amazing but it would be something that she would be spending a lot of time in when school started so she decided she’d venture outside. The academy was a little like a maze, it took her a decent chunk of time and her drink being just a little under half way finished when she managed to find the north-west court yard. The place felt like it couldn’t get more, well magical and yet every place she went she was in awe of this place. Maybe it had taken a while to open up this place but it definitely felt like all those years where worth the wait. She managed to find a bench away from a few people that were doing the same as her, roaming. Her back turned to the school, looking out at the foliage that surrounded the school. It was peaceful and peace felt really good on a day where she had been out of her sorts with stress. Narae breathed in the fresh air, a smile planted on her face while she relaxed and enjoyed the cool breeze against her skin, blowing her hair in front eyes. As a fire fairy, it was easy to stay warm and she always loved the feel of the wind against her because she never felt too cold. Suddenly, a piece of folded paper flew past in front of her which turned her smiling face, into a look of a confusion before another one blew past her again. “What in the heck?” she muttered to herself, looking around to see what was causing this exceptionally weird turn of events considering she was in a school full of magic.
a long day’s work deserves to be rewarded.
her move in has been a success. the little impromptu play with cousin seulki received a couple of warm applauses. signing up for classes went without much hiccup. so, she would definitely say... it’s been a successful day indeed.
making her way to the courtyard, with a stack of colourful paper in tow, is rorin’s way of treating herself. weeks leading up to the first day in the academy, she insists on learning how to do origami — a great choice of a hobby given how calming it is. rorin would sit at the dining table after her meals with her aunt as they fold the paper into little creatures, all while talking about anything and nothing at the same time. she’s going to miss those little moments with her. oh, how rorin misses aunt seohee already.
little does she know that her inner turmoil could manifest into a small gust of wind. it’s not a strong breeze by any means, but it’s still strong enough to send a couple of her origami paper flying.
“no!” rorin grimaces, watching as the paper fly away — before she snaps out of her trance to chase after them. as if it’s mocking her, the wind picks up speed. “no, no, no!” rorin jumps up and down, using the little knowledge she has to boost her hops. alas, the wind is feeling a little playful. more paper fly from her grip. rorin pouts. “aw, geez louise.”
the piece of paper flies past a girl, and another flies past again. despite the distance, rorin yells out, “i’m sorry!” rorin begins jogging towards the girl, all while clutching the paper (that hasn’t flown away) closer to her chest “actually, can you help me, please? don’t let those paper get away!”
the younger girl whips her head towards the staircase when she hears footsteps again, grinning over the half-opened box she’s been inspecting for trinkets she might be able to ( read: definitely will ) hang up on her ceiling. “ rorin! ” seulki takes a running jump at her cousin, gleeful to see her cute face for the umpteenth time today while they run back and forth between their rooms. “ i found the cutest lil pot for your stationery! ” and well yes, maybe said cousin has a box in her hands, but! if she runs and leaps at rorin, she knows the other will most certainly catch her in her arms!
heave ho, heave ho, heave ho!
carrying boxes sure is tiring. wouldn’t it be handy to be able to fly!
watching the other, more talented, fairies soar about with their items creates a yearning within rorin. it’s not exactly jealousy, more so excitement that, someday, she’d be able to fly as easily as they can. until then, rorin has a long way to go. mastering her powers and element is exactly why she’s here. she’s not the best, but that’s the point! there’s nowhere to go but up.
(it’s going to be fun. it has to be!)
still, even with her chanting that mantra in her head, she has an inkling of insecurity — what if she doesn’t fit in? what if she sucks at everything? what if she can’t find a place to store her knitting!?
thankfully, she has her cousin.
cousin seulki — one of the most fantabulous (fantabulous-est?) fairies rorin has ever met.
it’s a bit unfortunate that they won’t be stay on the same floor, but they’re still in the same building at least!
as rorin loses grip on her cousin’s box, she figures that she has two choice right then: fix the position of her hand or quickly dash to seulki’s room...
under normal circumstances, rorin won’t do this, but she’s at the seohae magic academy, if there’s ever a time to be daring, it’s now! (besides, she’ll be saving time, she wants to drag seulki around the campus so they can see what kind of offering the place has!)
lurching her body forward, rorin makes a run for it. she retains the momentum, using the weight of the box alongside hers. her feet carry her across the halls and she weaves through the other fairies there (ooh! she’s doing well). in ample time, she makes it to her cousin’s dorm.
rorin grins to herself. she can’t believe her plan works —
and a sudden projectile launches towards her.
“ahhh!” rorin yelps and her first instinct is to drop the box and to flee. but in the midst of the chaos — as everything blurs and everything starts moving in slow motion — rorin notices that the projectile is none other than cousin seulki!
relief washes over her and rorin opens her arms instead, knowing that seulki won’t mean her any harm. as her cousin falls into her arms, rorin smiles and chuckles, “hello!”
the sudden thud of the box next to her startles rorin.
“oh, i’m sorry! i hope there’s nothing fragile in there...” she sets down her cousin and inspects the box, completely forgetting the small pot that her cousin mentioned. “i’m so so sorry!”
