ayasashi:
Is Ruby going to be okay?
Itâs almost like sheâs floundering for dear life â Did she need room? Was she going to collapse? Eve has always been fond of hugging, so it really didnât seem weird at all! If anything, a hug made perfect sense at the moment.
Maybe thatâs where she made her mistake. Aya has never been good at picking the logical choice; instead, she follows her heart, trusting her emotions to guide her toward the right decision. While a hug may feel like the best way to express her gratitude, she fears she may have overstepped the bounds of Rubyâs personal space.
It comes as a relief, then, when Ruby lifts her arms to return the gesture.
â What? No, itâs okay! It really is, â Aya reassures her. Regardless of what the other girl claims, she could never judge a friend for something so trivial. â Seriously, donât worry about it! Iâm probably kind of sweaty, too. â Â
Thereâs a self-conscious laugh as she pulls away, sliding each hand backwards until both are again cupped around Rubyâs own. â Have confidence in yourself. Youâre a Huntress, right? There arenât many people who can do what you do. To them, youâre a hero who protects them from harm. And I think thatâs kind of amazing! â
Being overly self-conscious was one of Rubyâs (non)special skills. It was easy for her to fight without thinking about that kind of stuff, but when it boiled down to it she was clumsy socially after school had bludgeoned the idea into her that she was âdifferentâ. Sheâd noticed her own hesitation had made Ruby feel uncomfortable though, but how could it not?
âAhaha... Even if you are sweaty you smell nice. Maybe I should start wearing perfumes...?â She hadnât really bothered before, it wasnât really something she was interested in. Most of her time was spent in the wilderness so it wasnât a good idea to wear that kind of stuff. But this was making her feel extremely wary of everything about her appearance. Of course, she hadnât realized sheâd paid Aya a big compliment in the process.
Her new friend withdrew and placed her hands against her own. At this point there was no way Aya wouldnât have been able to see just how red Ruby had gotten from this whole incident, but even so she still cupped their hands together. Ruby appreciated Ayaâs attempts to help fire her up at the very least, but as confident as she was as a Huntress those traits didnât necessarily carry over to her social life.
She mustered a smile. âOkay, okay, you win! I donât really think that many people see me as a hero but I get where youâre coming from. Umm... I donât know if having confidence is that easy for me, but... At the very least you make me feel like I can improve in that area... if that makes sense?â It probably didnât.
