when i interviewed rob for vanity fair last year i asked him a question about the history of tv shows using homoerotic tension as a running gag, and how it seemed that sunny was subverting that trope through mac and dennis’s dynamic, particularly since mac’s coming out, and he began to answer the question, stopped mid-sentence, and then pivoted to talk about something completely different.

You interviewed him last year, why are you mentioning this now? After Glenn’s tweets…to what? Get peoples hopes up? Im sure you are aware that you have a huge following and people believe what you say so maybe stop implying things. And why are we supposed to take your word for it? What are you implying here, that Rob stopped talking about it cuz he didnt wanna give anything out or what? What did he say exactly?

i mean, i’m not implying anything - i was just explaining that i’d asked him about it directly and that he’d responded in an unusual way. i can’t post the transcript or the recording due to contractual obligations, unfortunately, but he really didn’t say anything juicy about the future of mac and dennis. he just avoided the subject pretty deliberately, which i thought was noteworthy. i’m bringing it up now because glenn’s tweets reminded me of it.

 if you are contractually obliged to not post the entire article, then i don’t understand why you keep teasing us, who are less fortunate than you, with little bits of it here and there, bits that are taken out of context, and make us only wonder what the entire interview was about. There must have been thousands of reasons why he avoided the question, I don’t think its really our business to discuss since we don’t have enough proof to, it’s just meaningless speculating that add drama to a situation that is already dramatic as it is. What’s the point of teasing us with bits out of context about an issue that we all care about (whether dennis will come and pursue any kind of relationship with mac), it looks like you are playing with our emotions. You have a lot of followers, idk if this is the right thing to do or if it is respectful to us, since we don’t all get the chance of interviewing the creator of our favorite tv show. I’m writing this not to enrage you, but to express a point of view that maybe you didn’t consider

don’t worry, i’m not trying to “tease” anything or play with people’s emotions! this was more an expression of frustration with myself for not clarifying my question or following up properly. as i’ve said, he essentially didn’t answer the question, and we didn’t discuss dennis at all elsewhere in the interview - which was more generally about the state of lgbtq representation in all media, as well as his own experiences growing up with a gay parent & how he uses those experiences to write mac.
