ok, im rebloging this again because im seeing obsene amounths of people in here talking about how content creators shouldnt care about numbers and ratios and that its all about curating your blog and whatever

let me first just say that numbers have meaning beyond someone mentally relating their worth to them. to content creators numbers equal exposure. and exposure means engagment. the more engagment there is the more active you are as a creator because you get an active audience.

now let me show you the numbers and you can make your own conclusion. I'm by far not the most popular creator but in my opinion there was a period of time when i was getting decent constant engagment.

Is it better or worse for creators to want reblogs instead of likes? how a higher engagement relates to more relavent fandom art (as there is communication with the community and what they would like to see) And witness the decline in the ratio as the years go by.

I started to actively post my art on here in 2017. these are my top 3 post from each year since

pls look at these numbers and tell me that the overall engagment on a post hasn't dropped because of lack of reblogs. and that content creators wouldnt get discouraged looking at this rapid decline in numbers.

what would be the reason for content creators to continue creating content if nobody would actually see it?

exactly one year ago i took a leap of faith and followed a casting call from this post here.

six months ago i headed to new york city to film the first season of The OA.

people on this hellsite argue every day that queer is a terrible word, a slur, etc, and use dumb phrases like “q slur” 

Meanwhile, the word gay panic … is a cutesy word now to describe being a gay disaster and being unable to function around a cute person of the same gender …. (as opposed to its original meaning, which was “your honor, I murdered this gay person because they flirted with me and I “panicked.”) 

And look. I”m not saying that nobody can ever use gay panic that way. Whatever! Reclaim that shit! I think I’ve reblogged 888888888888 “gay panic Shiro” posts.  Steal it from the murderers. They don’t deserve anything,, let along words.

Some myths I’ll always remember:

* Are elephants scared of mice? (They only did that because they were in Africa and had access to elephants.)

* Will a bull run amok in a china shop?

* Is it better to run zig-zag or straight when chased by an alligator?

I love these because NONE of them turned out the way they expected. They went into all three with pre-conceived ideas of how it would go, and each time they “failed.” Elephants WILL cower from mice. A bull moves very gingerly through a china shop. It doesn’t matter how you run because ALLIGATORS WON’T CHASE YOU.

And each time, they reacted with just… pure glee. “Holy shit, we were wrong! Oh my god! This is great! We were so wrong!”

And that, to me, is what science is. Being excited about being wrong because either way it’s information.
