My Experience With AI. Now I Shifted Away From It
I got nervous writing this, and don't know the right words or how to put it. Wasn't ready either, but I have to speak about this. I've written about this before, but I'll be writing this in better detail. This is about my experience with AI, and how I started to shift away from it after clear realization what it actually does.
Before I start, I would like to say that it took me awhile to write this because I was trying to find the right words and be true and honest about this. This is a full story of my experience with AI, and how it affected me as a whole, and I almost considered quitting my life as a fanfic writer and artist, and basically realized how bad AI is that I shifted away from it after seeing what it's purpose is.
No, I am not defending AI. Just talking about the experience I had before shifting away from it.
Around November of 2022, the announcement from DeviantArt was made about Dreamup AI. That was the first time I ever heard of AI. It became new to me, and I didn't even know it existed until now. I didn't understand what it actually was. As soon as the announcement came, I WAS about to do one, but luckily I did NOT do an AI art because a lot of artists say AI steals art. I happened to be against AI art since.
After when all that was going on, I still never fully understood what AI was besides the AI art. When 2023 arrived, I hadn't had any more awareness of AI. It was either I've forgotten everything about it or something else. Couple of years later is when it began when Google AI first became new to me.
The fanfic prompts was the start. I haven't been writing fanfics in a long time. Well, I've been writing some prompts on my notes on my phone for the future fics, also on Google Docs and Microsoft Word, until Google AI came. I thought they were the practice and guidance to my writing skills. I won't go into much further details because it can be any genre or type. I thought it would help with my future fanfics. It was until it shows some of the posts of fanfics from other sites. THAT made me realize and see what AI actually does, how bad it really is, and how it steals. So that ruined me as a fanfic writer.
But oh, no. It did NOT stop at fanfic prompts. There's more before the realization.
I thought it wasn't a big deal with Google AI for almost everything. I had used it for information whenever I am scared, curious or fear of something. I won't go until details as well because it can be anything. I thought it was useful for me to make myself feel better. Until now, I was wrong. Because I fully realized what AI actually is, and what it does. And how, at times, it can make some misinformation when searching about people, places, movies, events, etc. Can be basically anything. And about fanfics, fan stuff, and something random, too. What Google AI basically does that made me realize what AI's purpose is.
It was like a coping mechanism for me, until it's not even worth it anymore. How AI destroyed me that I would almost considered not doing any fanfics, or any art, or basically do anything online anymore.
All the AI stuff I've experienced isn't worth it anymore. When it worsened at times, it started to affect me. I can see how harmful AI really was. It isn't what I want to represent as an artist, nor do I want it to represent my fanfics and everything in my content. And mostly, it isn't what I want for my friends or anyone to see if I had AI stuff. That would ruin it all for me. And I don't want that. This isn't what I am. AI writer? No. Don't want to be that myself. AI creator? Never wanted to be that either.
It sucks, it really does. It made me WISH I had shifted away from AI, or rejected it WAY sooner. As the matter of fact, I had wished I have known about AI a long time ago. If I knew sooner of what it actually does and it's purpose, none of what's happened wouldn't be going on for this long. It was destroying me until it got to that point it affected my whole self. I feel really bad for everyone to this point, not just myself. I would've considered giving up on everything after all that. But after owning up to all that, I will take responsibilities and shift away from AI for good. It has become my responsibility to know better than doing AI slop.
The "-ai" at the end on every site (well, not all sites) does work at times to keep AI results away, which does help a lot without the AI stuff in the way. Still needed to be extra careful because it'll sometimes slip. I do search on different sites without AI. Just needed AI out of the way, even if I have to look away from it if necessary or do anything to keep AI away. This goes for online shopping as well.
The words and definitions I will have to look on my own on accurate sites. Because they were new to me, I wish Google AI hadn't done it for me. This goes for fanfics as well. Probably it'll be best that I make my own prompts and/or look for more accurate prompts than how the AI slop did. Will have a hard time when it comes to writing, but I'll do my best.
I am still using DeviantArt and Instagram, but I'll be ensure to keep AI away from my content as possible, as I will still exist there. Google Docs and Microsoft Word is what I use, because I like writing on computer. I will ensure nothing will be made with AI.
I did NOT post any artwork made with AI. And I did NOT post any fanfics with AI. Thankfully, I didn't. Especially after the Google AI I've been fooled myself into, it would've been disastrous and shameful. I don't intend to post anything AI. If I did, I would be ashamed of it right now. It ruined it all for me, but I'm not willing to give up. I have owned up to all of it, and I am working on taking responsibility for it. And to write with my own typing and the same ideas (or different) the right way, not making that mistake again. Hopefully to be given a second chance.
We all make mistakes. Mistakes can happen. That's part of life. However, it is to be careful, too. I have made mistakes in the past that I learned. Plagiarism is one thing I learned not to do again. That is the learning experience. I didn't want to make a mess, or get into every mess with my content and my whole life. I will be returning to my normal self and to be able to do things I love the right way without having to use AI. After shifting it away, that will be the start of actually being myself again.
Well, to be honest, the horrible slop is another reason why I was having such anxieties for awhile and that it ruined it all, and that it shouldn't be the answer to everything to make myself feel better. I would've looked at accurate info. I have wasted my all life for it. Now, I am working to fix my mistakes, which some I'm still working on fixing.
I'm just happy without using AI, as it'll help me follow the path of real art, real writing, real and accurate information and sites with no AI. Probably when the couple of months go by, I will start to feel A LOT better, and feel like myself again. I want to continue to connect with folks. I want to continue my whole life as an artist and writer. I won't let AI get in the way.
Just wanted everyone to know I have come to my senses. I wasn't sure if everyone would understand this, but I will make it right. I'll start to feel better after being away from the AI slop. It's just the beginning of me feeling like myself again. I felt really happy without having to use AI, and really excited to begin this journey to move forward into real art and writing without AI.
I've putted a lot of effort and heart, and honesty into writing this. I can see how AI is harmful to every artists and writers. I have chosen to continue fanfics, BUT to do it the right way as any real writers do without the AI slop.
Thank you for the kindness and support if given! And as always, my art and writing will always be real. I won't give up on my life as a writer and artist. I also won't give up on myself. ❤️
I'll feel like myself in no time! My journey continues!
