secondly he is an engineering student
BASICALLY adrian is an oc i made up when i was thinking about fanon seth interpretations and how he tends to get put in queer relationships (which i usually enjoy) but we don't consider a lot about how his canon character might get there. i think it's ENTIRELY possible with what we see/know about seth from canon, but i think it would take him a long time and possibly a near death experience or two.
the storyline i have for seth/adrian in this AU is basically seth comes back to PSU after waking up from a coma that lasted the whole of the AFTG books (he wakes up maybe a week or two before aaron's trial, so around mid july). he's allowed to play for the foxes for another season and also to redo his final year of college. with everything that happened with nine foxes in canon, plus the freshmen, seth picks up instantly on the fact that he Doesn't Fit into the teams dynamic anymore. like maybe he was a big part of the split in the first place, but at least he had something of a position in the hierarchy. now, seth has to yell across the court for his teammates to even remember he's there, and i think it starts to feel especially isolating. came back wrong type deal.
BUT THEN. he also has to graduate from college, which means passing his classes, which includes a statistics class because it was the only thing i could think of that would fit with his major being parks and rec. enter, adrian. adrian is the only person willing to tutor seth in statistics, and is undeterred by seth's initial hostility. shenanigans ensue.
the main thing that got to me about adrian was that i tried to think about how this dynamic could work with some of the foxes, and i genuinely think that they're all too much like seth to pull it off. seth is too used to meeting the rest of the world with a fist and he'll never admit needing help and he'll pull and bite back and argue any tide that comes his way. and all of the foxes are like this. the nature of their pasts and what theyve been through has given them all something of an 'every man for himself' mentality. obviously, they're a team and they'll fight like hell for each other, but that's still because they've greated a group in their heads of people who are worth sacrifice. and seth isn't in that group, for any of them. definitely not after what the foxes went through without him.
so i made adrian, who is something of a bleeding heart. he operates on the assumption that everything and everyone exists for a reason. he sees the logic in the world, the patterns of nature, and that there always has to be an answer, to everything. he's not always nice, but seth doesn't need nice. seth needs someone who is going to pull him just a little harder than he pulls, who will give him time to breathe, who will be patient but strong enough not to buckle when seth lashes out. there is a very delicate balancing act between the two of them: adrian won't let seth give up on himself and on the world, and seth won't crack if adrian comes off harsh. adrian hasn't known seth as long as the foxes or wymack or abby, he hasn't had the chance to write him off as a lost cause yet, and seth telling him to only serves to make adrians stubborn ass do the opposite.
their conversations sound like that of study partners who are permanently mildly irritated by each other's existence, but adrian will go to his first ever sporting event and look only for seth's jersey, and seth will doodle tiny rocket ships on the back of his statistics paper, because sometimes all it is is keeping each other upright
