“I feel humiliated, inadequate. So much of what one thinks, imagines, is false. How carefully one must compare it with reality, retouch it. But I get tired, so deeply tired. I crave peace, a choice, a simplification. Which one? Whatever I choose seems to demand a sacrifice I cannot make.”
— Anaïs Nin, from a diary entry featured in Trapeze: The Unexpurgated Diary of Anaïs Nin, 1947–1955 (via violentwavesofemotion)

where do people find the energy to live life
being in your early 20s is crazy bc there’s people who are literally married and people who’ve never even dated and people who are trapped in their childhood bedrooms waiting to get out and people who are trying to live out romanticized dream lives and people who are completely on their own and people with multi tiered support systems and we’re all supposedly peers and none of us think we’re doing it right at all
“I guess my life hasn’t always been happy, or easy, or exactly what I wanted. At a certain point, I just have to try not to think too much about certain things, or else they’ll break my heart.”
