I love reading but I hate what the online reading community has turned into. Soooo many people seem like they are reading just because they want to call themselves a reader and not because they actually want to read. It’s performative with literally no benefit. And then when you try to talk about these issues they call you pretentious or say you’re trying to gatekeep reading.

And a lot of people are weirdly defensive about books they like when they super duper don’t need to be? I like to read trash books the same way I like to watch trash tv; I find it too mentally taxing to read serious book after serious book. It might have been entertaining but I’m still gonna rate it based on its quality, and they get BIG mad when you do that. It’s literally not that deep and you do not need to go up in arms about it. I might think the book was Not Good but you don’t see me attacking people who gave it a 5 star rating. Try being normal

One time someone told me I know little about my tastes bc I don’t give 5 star ratings very often so I told them I just like to read diversely and they said “and the assumption is I must not read diversely then?”

Last night I told my husband about how I wanted to be an FBI agent when I was younger (thanks to criminal minds) and he immediately was like “ohhh that would have been so cool, why didn’t you go into criminology or something?”

So I told him that when I told my mom she said I would be too lazy and when I told my bf at the time he said it was just paperwork so they both just immediately crushed that dream lol.

But hearing him be immediately excited and encouraging about my pipe dream was such a nice contrast. Like damn I really picked a good one

I loved this trilogy. The world building was immersive and the characters felt incredibly authentic. The endings are always heart wrenching, but never in a way that dissuades you from picking up the next book. I look forward to picking up the Liveship Traders series and continuing to explore the Realm of the Elderlings!
