Tw violence, Tw mental health issues

When Sherlock flinched the first time John got louder and banged his fist on the table, John’s instinctual reaction had been to snarl, “Stop it, stop acting as if I–”

Sherlock had not stopped, but John had: the impulsive denial had given way to a hot, forceful wave of shame that had pulled him under. Stop acting as if I’ve beaten you. I have.

He had swallowed the shame, fled the scene, and refused to meet Sherlock’s eye for over two weeks, giving only stilted answers and spending as much free time outside of Sherlock’s presence as possible.

He had avoided the mirror.

His therapist told him he was in the stage of facing truths about himself, which was of course bound to be hard. He should be kinder to himself, more patient.

Kinder, John thought to himself at night when the thoughts wouldn’t stop. I punched him and beat him bloody when he was on the floor. I don’t fucking deserve kindness.

Sherlock’s flinching didn’t stop. It happened over dinner when John let the spoon drop; on a case, when John held Sherlock too tightly because Sherlock was about to do something stupid; coming home from work when John slammed the door shut, frustrated with the world.

John’s protestations that Sherlock should stop ceased; he no longer experienced denial, only the awful dread and shame. He took it in, swallowed, breathed through it. Most of the time that was enough. Other times, it caught up with him in bed late at night, and he had to bite into the pillow to muffle his sobbing.

Other times, it was not enough.

They were making dinner. John had a bowl in hand in which he was beating eggs while Sherlock prepared the salad. Stupidly, John stubbed his toe against the table leg, and the shock of it caused his hands to spasm–letting the bowl drop with a spectacular crash to the floor.

John’s head whipped up just in time to catch Sherlock’s violent flinch, as if John had–

Fuck. Christ.

John stared at Sherlock for another moment–who was already turning around, not two seconds later, saying, “John, don’t”–before he turned on his heel and locked himself in the bathroom.

The static in his ears and the irregular thumping of his heart were louder than the rush of the water from the shower above. His clothes were soaked, and even through them his skin boiled: the water was much too hot.

It was a welcome punishment. They didn’t need a second broken mirror.

He wanted to burn. He wanted to burn right out of his skin, out of his body, leave it all behind. He wanted to hurt. He wanted the pain. He deserved it. He fucking deserved it, none of that kindness patience mindfulness bullshit his therapist tried to sell him which didn’t work anyway because he was so bad and he deserved this deserved to bleed to hurt to cry to suffer he was so so bad–

Then, suddenly, a shock of movement from behind: a tightness around his body: fingers around his fists. (Fists? When had he–)

“John,” Sherlock said, and his voice was clear. Why was it clear? Where was the water? “John, I’m here. You don’t need to do this.”

“I–I need to,” John gritted out from between chattering teeth. Chattering, why chattering?, the water had been hot. “I deserve this, let me–”

“No,” Sherlock said sharply, lowly, and his arms tightened more around John, restricting his movement. “Indulging in self-destructive urges is regression. You don’t deserve this. You don’t have to do any of this.”

“You don’t understand,” John said feebly, and God he loathed himself, reduced to weakly thrashing in Sherlock’s arms, as if he couldn’t just throw him to the ground and–

He could. He had.

“No. No,” John moaned, and the renewed surge of self-loathing and shame choked him, sitting thickly in his throat. “Let me, I need to–”

“You need to be kind to yourself, John,” Sherlock said, and he sounded like a fucking textbook, like John’s fucking therapist, why couldn’t anyone see that kindness wasn’t for John, that he didn’t deserve it, that he–

A sharp pain in his left hand: he had freed himself from Sherlock and rammed the fist of it right into the wall. It made him shudder, the momentary relief of it sweet, while Sherlock–

While at his back, Sherlock flinched.

Feverishly, John, laughing, managed, “D'you see now why I can’t–”

Again, Sherlock’s hands at his elbows. With surprising strength, Sherlock forced him around, and there he was–John could hardly look at him but Sherlock had always commanded John’s every sense to focus on him–there he was standing like a wet dog with his hair plastered to his forehead and neck and his wet clothes, glaring down at John so fiercely something inside John went still.

“Stop it,” Sherlock hissed. “Stop telling me what to do. Stop telling yourself what to do and for once, John, for God’s sake, let yourself be!”

They both breathed hard, sharing the same breath in the hot space between their mouths. A moment later, Sherlock repeated, softer, “Let yourself be.”

John had no breath anymore. All the fight went out of him with Sherlock so forceful, so present right in front of him, touching John even after he had flinched.

The hardness inside him crumbled–

“And please,” Sherlock said in a much smaller, fragile voice now that John was listening to him, “please don’t lock yourself away again.”

–and went completely soft.

“Let me in,” Sherlock murmured, and his eyes were wet, not from the shower. He brought two tentative hands to John’s face, cupped it gently, slowly. “Let me in, John.”

And John learned that his fists on Sherlock need not be violent or angry: they could be vulnerable, seeking, and helpless, for they found themselves in his shirt, against his chest, holding on so tightly as if letting go meant disintegrating; he learned that he could touch in love, too.

John let go.

Maybe, in time, he would learn to stop speaking with his fists, his body, with violence; maybe he would learn to verbalise all this with his mouth.

Here, with Sherlock wrapped around him and John’s begging fists tight in his shirt, it felt absolutely possible.

On Researching for Fic

The ever-amazing @skulls-and-tea messaged me recently to ask about the research I did for The Pieces That Fall to Earth, which of course immediately made my librarian senses tingle. An opportunity for research instruction? Why YES I think I WILL post about that, thank you, Skully!

As a professional writer, I’m intensely aware of the power that my words have, and I always want to be sure that I avoid doing harm by communicating misinformation or harmful representation in my works. I also want my work to be as realistic as possible (even when it’s genre fiction like sci-fi or fantasy) because that element of realism is what helps a reader connect, what makes the world and the people in it feel real. Therefore, research!

I’m a bit of an obsessive researcher. It’s a Ravenclaw thing, I guess. (high five, @heimishtheidealhusband!)

But how to research WELL?

Look, even though I’m a librarian, I’m not really using books or databases when I’m researching for a fic (for the most part). I use good ol’ google just like everyone else, but I do so armed with my training and skepticism. There are really only two big rules for good research, in my mind:

1. Evaluate your sources - Use the CRAAP test. How recent is the information? Does the website have a particular bias? Are they selling anything? Who is the author, and where did they get their info? What’s the purpose of the site?

2. Corroborate your sources - Doubt EVERYTHING. Find 2-3 additional sources that back up your facts. One website can be wrong. Four reputable websites saying the same thing are less likely to be wrong.

In writing TPTF, I did extensive research into therapy techniques for dealing with the particular issues I perceived in John and Sherlock. Huge caveat: I am NOT a mental health professional, so my initial diagnosis of their issues could have been completely wrong, as could my proposed treatment. Even well-executed googling is no substitute for a professional therapist. But I wanted to make sure that the advice Ella gave had some basis in current therapy practice. I found lots of examples of anger management workbooks and course outlines. I googled lots of therapy note formats until I was confident I could build something realistic that would work for the story. I researched treatment techniques for negative self-talk. Some things came through my own experiences in therapy and my own issues. I researched child development, feeding, babysitting and have all kinds of elaborate headcanons for why Rosie likes certain activities, why she drinks almond milk and formula instead of cow’s milk, what her next group of words to say will be, what age she’ll hit certain milestones, etc. etc. etc. It’s a bit ridiculous. But it all helps imbue the story with that sense of realism, even if a lot of that research never makes it onto the page. It’s there in my mind, and it influences how the story comes out. That’s one of the best pieces of advice my agent gave me about creating characters—list 20 things about the character that the reader will never know. They should have a rich life beyond the edges of the page.

Do I still get things wrong? Absolutely. It happens, and all I can do is apologize for any hurt caused, correct the mistake, and do better next time. But I hope those instances are few and far between, and I hope that the care I put into researching my fics shows through.

March 8th

Not expecting much. It won’t be a Lost Special airing today, but maybe the hint/tease begins? Probably via Moriarty as he appears to be the vehicle of choice for this type of thing. Probably in a tweet. The word ‘unleashed’ means let off the leash, they didn’t say ‘revealed’ on that billboard, so the choice of word indicates that something is allowed freedom, something fucky this way comes. Something that will grow and spread. If we are playing a huge game, if the creators are recreating the Holmesian Experience, then in keeping with Doyle, we get 2 anon messages from a person who is identifiable, as this is how Doyle started the resurrection of Holmes. In The Lost Special and The Man with the Watches, Doyle HINTED that Holmes was still alive by having Holmes anonymously send letters of assistance to police/newspapers. Then Doyle released a prequel of sorts in the form of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Now in BBS Sherlock world we have already had these two events occur, but with Moriarty not Holmes; Jim’s Miss Me video and then the flashback in the final problem to 5 years ago. So we may be further along than we think. During the Victorian hiatus fans had speculated theories just as we do, the most popular ones were concerning Moriarty: Moriarty is imaginary, Moriarty is innocent, Moriarty lives, plus the fundamentalist school, which accepted that Holmes indeed died at the Falls. Hence my leaning towards a Moriarty tease/clue if we get one.Yes we saw Anderson recreate some of this in MHR, but we all knew Sherlock was alive. I believe the creators killed the show with TFP versus killing Holmes and thus our current dilemma is resurrecting the show itself not Sherlock the character. All the ‘it might have been the last ever episode’ yet the head of BBC Drama standing in front of the audience at the BFI and saying the BBC want more episodes….all a game.

Anyway, I am prepared for disappointment if they give us nothing, and watchful incase they do.

Would love to have another Minisode like Many happy returns - as tester for more to come.

Can’t stop thinking that they wanted to create an ending for all straight people that are not interested in a gay love story but in the Detective story. Then waited  to sell the DVDs and test the fandom like how we will react- how afraid we wold be not to get the proper story.

Then use the disappointment 2 month later to tease us that the true story is still out there - and that we will get the ‘ comming together’ of John and Sherlock soon.

Series 5 will deal with there relationship and the reactions around that and the amount of people that are still watsching the show will be a proper statement.

Looking forward what will happen today - please somebody in the U.K. Observe BBC One and tell us here, as we are not all so lucky to have proper access to British TV - THANK YOU so much in advance...

TFP is Mind Palace – Sherlock’s coming out

What if… Sherlock imagines his coming out in TFP? Just my reading of it, but full of hope – please let me walk you through it in my different posts to proof it. Expecting your comments.

What if TFP is exclusively is in Sherlock’s mind palace where he comes to his terms about his emotions by road-testing his feelings and what exactly ‘coming out of the closet’ would mean and feel like for him and the people important to him (John, Mycroft, Molly, his family)?

But for Sherlock who trained himself his entire life to repress his emotions, it would need a strong trigger, to break his old pattern of hiding feelings behind rude behavior. If John would be fatally injured and Sherlock is not aware if he will pull through, this would be the strongest trigger I can imagine.

We don’t know if John is really been shot yet, but the last scene of TLD is red (start of the new storyline ‘Rouge’, which we will explore later – hopefully 8th of March we get a teaser when the expected 4th episode will air that will reveal the truth?) and we did not get a proper answer, as the next episode TFP is all in Sherlock’s head (mind palace), like TEB.

Because I felt so miserable after TFP first, I watched it several times and started to go through this episode scene by scene in different posts (Mycroft’s residence scene, 221B Baker Street (3/3)) to point out why it is mind palace, and did much research in the details like Oscar Wild and Lady Bracknell the pictures at the wall – all that subtext is about gay people and how society deals with it (feel free to check it out. I am still on it to post the next scenes, but the subtext is so rich and full of information, it takes ages to do the research – and as I’m no native speaker, I will miss a lot hope you guys can help me with this.)

John getting shot and survives is cannon in ‘The adventure of the three Garridebs’ Sherlock is panicking and takes care of him ‘It was worth a wound, it was worth many wounds, to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask.“ This is what John writes in ‘The Strand’ after that event. I don’t think that the writers will miss the opportunity to show us Sherlock suffering about John’s life!!!

To find a solution how to save John Watson (TLD – Mary’s message) he is using his mind palace to find out how he can provide his feelings to him, before John maybe dies without knowing. We know that Sherlock works the best when he is under (emotional) pressure.

Remember Sherlock saying in A Study in pink: “Bitterness is a paralytic – love is a much more vicious motivator”.

Before he met John, he was bitter and alone. With John in his live, everything changed, John humanized him, changed him to the better! If he loses John, he has no reason to change anymore, he (maybe) would become the same bitter person like he has been before John.

This time, Sherlock wants to make it right, he is asking for help at the end of T6T, but not Mycroft, as he is aware that he can’t teach him anything about feelings. So he asked the only person, who really knows John, which is Ella, John’s former therapist, what he can do about John. Ella tells him, that therapy can only work, if Sherlock is opening up. Sherlock replays, that this is not his style – and we get no more information, if he did it or not.

Coming out is not about one moment, just one kiss and everting is fine. It is a process that starts in the head (mind). You first need to find out, who you are, and that can be a really painful thing. The next steps are to accept yourself the way you are. Then you are out with yourself, you learn to live with it. After that you need to decide, if you go further and maybe tell it to your love interest, or to your parents, to free yourself. At this point, many gay people are in therapy, because their parents, relatives, friends or people at work do not understand the pain you are going though, just to be yourself without hiding a part of yourself. If you find enough acceptance here, your next step could be to publicly come out if it is silently while holding hands or kissing your friend in public and watch the reaction of the people surrounding you or by making it public as a statement on a party or something similar. I think most of the LGBT people do not get to this point to make it officially public, because they are too afraid of it. And this is why we are surrounded by LGBT people every day that we do not recognize. But if we start to watch silently, hear and read the subtext of their behavior, or short comments, we will get a glimpse of how many there are amongst us. But why do they hide? – Because you need a strong self-believe and self-confidence to be strong enough to resist being hurt every time that people show you that they do not understand or accept you. Also it depends on the country you live in, still today, there are countries that will arrest you for being gay or even kill you. So some LGBT people need to hide their entire life. Also the society does not accept you the same way that straight people are accepted and maybe you do not get the job you like, because people know, that you are gay. Or you live in a religious community, where there is no room for diversity.

Coming out is a unique experience for each person, who needs to go through this kind of process.

Bearing that in mind, think about that Sherlock is probably 40 now, like Ben is, and it is the first time in his life, that he allows himself to research his feelings so deeply. He was always aware that he is gay. But what does this mean for him before and now? He grew up in the Thatcher era and during the HIV/AIDS crisis. It felt different in that days to be gay. Stars like Freddy Mercury never had an official coming out, it has just been the rumors in the press until he died. Also we get reliably informed, that Sherlock never had sex or a relationship before, in his live. So imagine how difficult it might feel to start at this age to learn about yourself.

It is painful for Sherlock to go back in his life to find out, why he is emotional contained and what he is afraid of, as he ‘deleted’ those things from his hard drive, buried it deep inside to have more space for other ‘useful’ information. Sherlock’s childhood that changed him from an emotional kid to an almost always rude thinking machine. We learn, that it has something to do with REDBEARD and that it is an alternate story that Sherlock told himself to be able to cope with the truth (which truth?). He needs to find out what it was to find inner peace with himself first. I guess we have not seen the correct Victor Trevor story yet, I assume, he was Sherlock’s first ever love interest and there will be a different story told in a later episode.

To find out more about his life today, he needs to go back there. Therefore Sherlock creates different rolls and characters for a play in his mind palace:

The little girl on the plane represents his subconscious, and his emotions that are still disconnected from his today reality, so he is still incapable to show feelings to others properly (timing). He needs to find access to this resource.

Moriarty he is only a voice in his head, but he is the devil, the virus in his data. He is always pushing him to make decisions, he does not want to make, decisions that separates him from John.

The little girl and Moriarty are like the angel and the devil on his shoulders, like yin and yang.

EURUS is a fictive character for his (evil) logic, emotionless side. He needs EURUS to confront himself with several topics, to put himself to tests, to find out about how the both most important people in his life will react in different situations. Those two people are

Mycroft, his brother that is protecting him since childhood by teaching him that caring is not an advantage and that he should join not getting involved in any friendship or romantic entanglement, because this could hurt him. But Mycroft has also selfish interests, because if Sherlock would be officially out, this could (maybe) ruin his career in the British Government – so I had always the feeling, that he wanted to see his brother happy with John, but might have an interest to keep it as a secret. Mycroft is aware that Sherlock is gay.

John, who Sherlock is in love with, since he met him. He knows about Johns feelings for him at least since the Battersea scene in A Scandal in Belgravia, but as John is always dating women (and marries a woman) to cope with his unrequited love for him (Sherlock seems always to be unavailable for John) Sherlock fears to tell John the truth. He is not sure if John is straight and only his best friend or if he is Bi. Therefore he researched Major James Shoto, because he needs to know, if John is romantically interested in men, too.

He needs to find out about how John could possibly react, when he confesses his love, while he is unsure, he expects John to make the first move as he is much more experienced in romantic entanglement than he is.

We can see that in TFP in the most painful and emotional scene, when Sherlock askes Molly (she is always a stand in for John) to say ‘I love you’. As Molly turns the way around and asked him to tell it first ‘say it, like you mean it’ he comes to the conclusion, that John will never ever say a word, because it is true and he is insecure, too. We see John in tears, when Sherlock finally says ‘I love you’ – he is waiting instantly to hear it from Sherlock. So Sherlock cannot expect John to say anything, as he is too afraid about himself, hiding his bisexuality. 

As Sherlock kept everyone in the dark about his sexual orientation, even John, he needs to be the one who is telling John, how he feels first.

Also in this scene, he comes to the conclusion that he must tell Molly that he is gay, to save her from the pain he is causing her while she is still in love with him unable to move on.

It is not a Game anymore – If it is true, we can stop to play around the subject and tell everyone :-)

Mark Gatiss knows about the pain that LGBT people feel - so I don’t think that he wanted to hurt any feelings by not getting it right.

– Please think about it. If you read TFP as Sherlock’s coming out, than we can expect to see all what we desired later.

To see Sherlock and John as a happy couple, experiencing a proper romantic relationship, there are some steps missing, which we can expect for S5 (hopefully).

But first Sherlock needs to:

heal his inner child  (plane landed safely, TFP)

stabilize his emotions to complete himself (reconnecting with Eurus, which we can see during the violin play in TFP finishing scene)

He needs to tell John

He needs to tell his family (shown in the TFP final scene)

He needs to tell Molly

John has to come out, too (will be difficult for John)

They need to tell their friends

Coming out in public?

 Of course, they are ‘coming out’ ;-))))

TFP - Mycroft residence scene

I am refering to my former theory, that all of TFP is mind palace, so Sherlock’s view, memories and imagination.

The most ridiculous part of the whole episode, completely over the top scene is Sherlock detecting Mycroft. First of all, his sexual orientation.

This is the movie, which he is obviosly enjoying.

Sherlock is framing Mycroft as straight and old fashioned, as he is attracted to a  movie of the 40ties, showing a male detective and a female suspect flirting (funny because we know, that Mark is a married gay man, while Ben… maybe we see here an opposite of the  real life ;-) But this seams to be important for the story, as we did’t see anything about Mycrofts sexual interests before.

When the male character tells ‘I can put you on a close watch…’ the film is starting to brake and we see a home made family film which tells us a lot if we take the time to look at it in detail:

and a happy, small, slim Sherlock, maybe 5 years old, with their parents at a picnic on the beach.

In the next picture we see the teenage adipose Mycroft with enormous appetite, scolded by his father.

Mycroft instantly pics up on the childhood film.

Sherlock want’s to play with his brother and father…

but Mycroft seams to be more interested in his book.

and is shocked to read

We see the family waving to the person that is filming - and now something realy creepy happens:

Are this the eys of the woman that we saw in the film before? - Or is the family or Sherlock closely watched since then?

Remember: (S)he was capeable of manipulating people since (s)he was 5!

Maybe it is nothing, but why… did they reverse the picture? It is just for one second!

The difference between both pictures:

1. The facial expression of Mycroft, who looks sad in the first picture without waving, but kind of smiles in this one and also waves back.

2. The mother ist the same as Mycroft, sad without waving in the first picture, now she is smiling and waves, too. ???

Then the film starts melting. When this is Sherlocks memory of that day, something has been manipulated and he has forgotten the rest of it.

There is no Euros, and we do not know who was behind that camera. ((Euros?), Sherrinford, Uncle Rudy?)

When Mycroft leaves the room, Sherlock can’t resist to scare him with Steven King horror movie images like the blue dressed  girl,

(btw. nice reference to the red/blue theory of some reblogged stuff, nice picture of Ben’s parents, too ;-)

the Clown (Mycroft trying to fight the Clown with the sword and the gun does not work, we learn that he is defenceless, like the voice is telling him.)

the bleeding pictures (this painting looks strongly familiar, like Timothy Carlton alias father Holmes, dressed up like Isaac Newton :-)

And the next two picturers are showing a woman that is looking at the Newton picture, so maybe his wife, Mycroft’s and Sherlock’s mother? (Sorry, did’t get a good frozen picture of it.) But the picture that he is looking at, is showing a young, sad man, a ‘Knight’, a ‘Dragon slayer’ maybe this represents Sherlock.

Clearly, we are dealing with a family affair here.

My assumption is, that Mycroft was much like his mother and Sherlock is more like his dad, as you can see in the short family movie before, they are opposites (Mycroft with mum, Sherlock with dad) in the images, here, Sherlock is facing the same direction as the Newton picture does. I am also recalling the Christmas scene in HLV, where we can see both parents today. She seems to be intelligent, but somehow emotionless cold. Dad is warm and caring. ;-)

All of it should show us as the audience, that this all is not real as it is all presented to ridiculous. But if you have any siblings, it is quite understandable that Sherlock is also making fun in imagining, how to scare his elder brother.

Now about the ‘scary’ part. Who is the scary east-wind (Euros), and what has Mycroft to do with it (her)?

(I am refering to my pre-posts on TFP and EUROS here, sorry, I’m blogging the first time in my life, so please be a little patient as I am still learning how to do it properly also no native speaker ;-)

When Sherlock enters the scene trough red curtains (!!!) like in a play, (can never resist the touch of the dramatic), he wears the deer stalker, symbol of his public persona, not his real self (Rebecca, TJLC explained). He is perfectly well, no signs of the stitches or the injured eye (so clearly mind palace, because this kind of injuries need some time to heal.)

Mycroft wears a red tie, and is standing next to the only lamp with a red lamp shade in the entire room, so if red has anything to do with emotions, this is possibly a heart to heart conversation.

Sherlock comes to the conclusions (to set up his mind palace imagery): 1. He has a sister, Euros. 2. His sister is institutionalized since early childhood by his brother 3. Mycroft is terrified of her (4. She is out now (John, perfectly well, mentions this). I will come back to this later.)

In TAB we learn, that in Sherlock’s mind, John is always smart and more offensive than we see him in real life.

In this scene, he and John are the smart ones, not Mycroft. Sherlock picks up on spoiling Mycroft’s obviously enjoyment of the movie and that he has disabled his security system (very promising :-). So he is researching the persona of his brother behind his smartness.

Sherlock knows that John has been shot at the therapy session (in real life) , the word EUROS and SHERRINFORD, too (I guess, this is what John may have told him , when Sherlock  found him shot, as this infromation is needed to make the mind palace work).  

To make the mind palest version work, it has to be a tranquilizer (we have seen a real gun, no injection gun 4 times in TLD)– but he needs John at his side now to find out the truth.

He has again used his homeless network and will pay the actors, reminding them not to spend the money on drugs :-)

He give the smart explanation and invitation to Baker Street to John, (he does no longer need to be the cleverest person in the room).

‘There is a place for the desperate, scarred and terrified people with nowhere else to run’ – this is how Sherlock thinks about his work as the world’s only consulting detective, so not a dragon slayer ;-)

And this was just the first 7 minutes of TFP - There is much more to be investigated - I will continue with the next scene in 221B, in case you are interested…

P.S.: Rewatched the picture scene again today, there are 5 pictures at the wall, the first is showing a house, maybe the family home. But the last is not bleeding, showing another person… it is in the dark… I asume that Mycroft does not have a picture of himself at the wall, so there might be another sibling… I like to keep you guessing…;-)

Then we finally see the 4rth picture... who is it, is it Mycroft, or Sherrinford?

No picture of EURUS here - and at that time, Sherlock is aware of EURUS, so no family member, otherwise there would have been a picture of her, too - and we had seen it, as to complete the story.

TFP - EURUS Holms is not real!

There is a woman pretending to be Sherlock’s sister, but how can he forget a sibling?

We don’t know, if there is a real sister of Sherlock and Mycroft, the explanation in TFP is not satisfying. If Mycroft was able to re-write Sherlock’s memories, what else did he manipulate? This would also imply, that he has more power over Sherlock, as we want to imagine.

Sherlock knows her as a blond women, that came to his flat a few weeks ago, pretending to be ‘Faith Smith’ and when he ‘picked up’ John at his therapist (without recognizing that it was the same person) – as EURUS she looks again different, acts different.

Is EURUS real and a missing Holms sibling or maybe one of Moriarty’s or Mycroft’s agents or even sent from Sherrinford, the real secret sibling?

We have seen her in 3 disguises before (Faith Smith, ‘E’xx the woman in the Bus, John’s new therapist) so we don’t know, how she really looks like.

As John points out in therapy, that she barely news Sherlock, she explains ‘Oh no, we met before, we spent a whole night together, it was lovely, we had chips…!

John’s jealous look – let me instantly think about Moriarty’s plan to ‘burn out Sherlock’s heart!

During her introduction to John, EURUS locks the door to the garden to ensure, that he can’t escape, but what is her motive to hurt or kill John?

‘Culverton gave me Faith original note, a mutual friend put us in touch…”

(Who was this mutual friend – was it MORIARTY???) Consulting criminal - it is his style to use others to separate John and Sherlock, like he used Irene Adler before.

At the same time, we get a proper connection to Moriarty, when Sherlock finds the ‘big one’, the real message that links to Moriarty, hidden on Faith original note!

What do we expect Sherlock to do, when he realizes, that Moriarty is behind it? – He knows that John is in danger and that he needs to protect John.

John is the only person, that knows the name ‘EURUS’ and about her disguises. Sherlock is still finding out about it, when he finds the hidden note.

We know, that she has a real gun – no tranquilizer – and that she really shoots at John.

If we look at the position she is holding the gun, I assume that she hits John somewhere in the shoulder or chest, so he might be heavily injured. (Please not one of his beautiful eyes…!!!)

We hear the shot and see the move of the firing pin, see gun smoke, so the creators want to make sure that we believe that it was a real shot!

I’m convinced that Sherlock found John badly injured, after he got shot. John needs to tell Sherlock before he is fainting, that it was Sherlock’s sister ‘EURUS’ who shot him and about her disguise, because John is the only person, that knows her name at the end of TLD.

John getting shot and survives is cannon in ‘The adventure of the three Garridebs’ Sherlock is panicking and takes care of him ‘It was worth a wound, it was worth many wounds, to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask.“ This is what John writes in ‘The Strand’ after he got shot in the leg in the original ACD story.

I don’t think that the writers will miss the opportunity to show us Sherlock suffering about John’s life!!!

Sherlock needs to find a way to save John, therefore he uses his mind palace, to find the answer. (I already did a post about that, TFP – is Mind Palace, Sherlock’s coming out’.)

Now he has his doubts, if this is the right strategy for live and for a good reason: He is in love with John and does not know how to express emotions, because he has never allowed himself to live through them before. So he needs to understand, needs to learn quickly.

So how can Sherlock who repressed his feelings his entire life learn to open up to John to let him see his warm heart behind his cold mask???

‘I am trying to help you. Helping someone is the best way you can help yourself.’  - EURUS in the taped information.

Sherlock solves cases - helping others is his strategy to help himself not to use drugs to cope with his isolation. But he hardly can accept to be surrounded by people, because he does not understand their feelings and is always insecure when they mention his lack of emotions. So he separated himself from his family, does not allow himself to have friends and is arrogant to all people around him to keep the distance, but this was going to change since John is in his life, he changed him, made it possible to open up a little bit.

Mycroft is the only family member that has regular contact with him. But Sherlock does not like his attention and surveillance, feels always in competition with his older brother. Mycroft pretended to worry about him constantly, but is cold, not a really loving brother figure. He monitors his mental state and Sherlock is somehow aware of that. He taught him this moral code once to protect Sherlock, but also protect his political career. Therefore he is reassuring, that Sherlock is observed, all the time.

But why? What is his motive? Maybe that Mycroft was remarkable, but if EURUS = Sherlock, he is incandescent, an era defining genius beyond Newton (?!?), clinically unique, was able to manipulate people since (S)he was 5 and is an adult now, so has now reached perfection in this. 

Is Mycroft jealous or afraid? Is this the reason he needs to control his younger brother?

John is different, he is the only person that accepts Sherlock for who he is, who knows him for real, who completely cares. This is why Sherlock deeply cares about him -  why he fell in love with him. John is selfless, does not judge, helps Sherlock to understand others around him and gives friendly advice when he was rude to someone without knowing. He saves him whenever necessary in every possible way, does not need to compete with him, kills a bad guy to protect him and is offering to die for Sherlock to protect him. John became Sherlock’s world, his new home – This for me represents pure love… (Without any sexual intention for now, only the longing, the fantasizing …)

So here we are again. Sherlock is at the fork of his path, he needs to find out, whom to follow in future, Mycroft (brain, calculating machine) or John (heart).

Stepping closer to the glass, EURUS tells him, that after REDBEARD (s)he could no longer feel the difference between laughing and crying. – So what happened, that was so life changing? – It must have been a real trauma, that changes a little kid like that…

Sherlock askes EURUS ‘Tell me what I don’t know.’ - ‘Touch the glass’

‘You are not used to being unsure… look at you, the man who sees trough everything is exactly the man that doesn’t notice, when there is nothing to see trough.’

There is no glass, there are no 2 different people… it is just Sherlock, he is in his mind prison, unable to escape. As the hands of Sherlock and EURUS touch, you can see, that he realizes that he is not confronted with his sister - he is confronted with himself.

EURUS is another part of his subconscious mind that knows everything, the hard drive is big enough to remember it all. It hits him and he is afraid because his subconscious mind is violent and attacks him, knocks him out – ‘Stop me killing him’.

EURUS = little girl on the plain = SHERLOCK

I had my first ever Lost Special dream! I don’t remember the events leading up to this, but suddenly I was typing out http://thxjhw.lostspecial.thxwssh.co.uk/ and ta-daa, there it was, and it was glorious. (Of course I checked it as soon as I got up, but nothing there to see, unfortunately.)

Just now I was doing the dishes and thinking about the Musgrave ritual, as one does, and started thinking: has anyone tried to work Eurus’ song into an URL? The beech is so confusing, it has to mean something.

Maybe TD-12 is not a drug

My boyfriend and I were theorising about Sherlock’s EMP and we realised that Eurus (East Wind) maybe refers to the right brain hemisphere (east = right, just in case), and everything is happening in Sherlocks’ mind.

At first we didn’t pay that much attention, but later we read some psychological articles that pointed the right brain had some similarities with Eurus’ personality, here we go:

The right hemisphere is mainly in charge of spatial abilities, emotions, feelings, face recognition, intuition.

The brain’s right side also helps us to comprehend visual imagery and make sense of what we see.

It performs some math, but only rough estimations and comparisons.

Damages on that hemisphere can lead us to not be able recognising places, names, faces and… Psychotic behaviour and schizophrenic aswell.

We’re not saying that Sherlock could be psychotic or schizophrenic but TFP maybe is showing us the conflict that Sherlock is having in his mind against that side of his brain (feelings, traumas, …). If he doesn’t fight back against ‘Eurus’ maybe she could take control of his mind and that’s why Mycroft had to “jail” that part of him.

And this is not a crazy idea as we can see images of brains in the radio station in Sherrinford.

All Eurus’ puzzles in TFP are all about emotional context (Molly ; Watson or Mycroft shooting ; also murdering David), intuition and deductive reasoning (three Garridebs) here you can see article about right hemisphere involved in deductive reasoning.

Then, we had Eurus, the right side of Sherlock’s mind and we kept searching for more.

What is TD-12 then?

As we got psychological all the way down we searched what TD-12 could be and we found some interesting things:

First that there is a drum module that’s is call like that (we had to avoid all these kind of results, A LOT).

And then that there’s a test to measure the TD-12 (Tendances Dysfonctionnelles = Dysfunctional Tendencies).

Maybe it was a coincidence (you know what we say about coincidences) but it was worthy to take a look at. We found this:

This TD12 theory had something relevant too: potential situational triggers. This may lead us to think that there was an event that involved Sherlock and he was shocked/traumatized and well you know what can happen when you get traumatized *drum roll please*, yes: AMNESIA. Maybe this part can explain why Sherlock didn’t remember the dog kid Victor Trevor (aka Redbeard, the eating-from-a-bowl fellow). We don’t know what happened with him (maybe he drowned for real or that’s symbolic) but made us think that this event ‘unleashed’ Eurus in Sherlock’s mind and uncle Rudy and later Mycroft took care of him/her.

Magnussen brought the preassure points. He wanted to know the preassure points of the people so he can control them, so maybe Sherlock is testing his preassure points just to control himself.

We’re now in this rough idea, and wanted to share it with you and tell us what you think, and if you can bring more ideas.

Memory inhibition: When you search ‘TD12 psychology’ in Google in the first page you can find this Wikipedia page with no relation at all. (x)

Thank you so much for doing this research. It fits into my theory, that TFP is all mind palace and Sherlock needs to find out more about his past/trauma and which moral code to follow in future, John or Mycroft. In my opinion we can read a kind of coming out prosess in TFP. Thanks for the pictures, guess you found them on the BBC Sherlock Homepage? Saw them there after S4 aired ‘series 4 Iconics’ wanted to use them for my new meta, but they are gone!!! The only of the three that is left, is that where Sherlock pushes the figures of the chess board!!!
