Actually, back in college I took an English class centered on how power and authority is conveyed in live action media and that professor would have had a field day with this one scene.

Soldier Boy is Homelander's "father" which, you know, could be considered the definition of authority, however everything about this shot subjugates him to Homelander.

He is slumping, weakened, and disoriented while Homelander stands square-shouldered and higher than him in the foreground. Soldier Boy's body language reads as vulnerable and wary.

He is on Homelander's giant, opulent bed and in the background are a bunch of photos of famous male authority figures, whom I'm guessing Homelander idolizes in some way, as if to highlight Soldier Boy's absence.

Homelander, while Soldier Boy was unconscious, dressed him in Homelander merch with his face on it lmao. He basically dressed Soldier Boy up as his own personal groupie/fan boy. Also... tight white short shorts. Meanwhile Homelander is in his suit.

There is not a single thing here that leaves Soldier Boy any level of authority. Beautiful...
