Finished two books in the last two days of the year. Yay!

The scorpion and the night blossom 3/5

I found the story intresting but the writing kept taking me out of it. The story itself was a bit plain? But I also am not sure if that had to do with writing as well. Had a good idea, not very good planning.

Shadow of the gods. 5/5

I know the writing ain’t for everyone, but me personally I loved it. The story lines were amazing and each felt very much their own. Also my first book by this author. Even the thought cage constantly being mentioned didn’t bother me. I did find some characters to be a bit selfish and dumb, but that’s okay. Looking foreward to the next book.

Next book to finish: Alchemised.

Alchemy of secrets- Stephanie Garber 3/5

I liked All that we see or seem better and it was my first Ken Liu book(I think his other books are fantasy) and my first techno thriller. Took me a few chapters to get into the story but I loved the character interactions and the villain pov, for some reason I loved reading about his little delusions. There was a plot twist about 2/3 in the book I didn’t expect and it ruined any theories I had as to how the book ended and then there was the final bit of the book and ending which I enjoyed. Took me a few days to figure out how to feel about the book. But I enjoyed it.

Alchemy of secrets is a rather short book, only about 330 pages. Very quick pace which fits the story but I’m not too sure what this is. Is it a cozy thriller? Or just a thriller with magic and fantasy? I did enjoy the kinda nostalgia it gave while reading, but I’m very confused about why I felt that way, maybe it was her writing? As for the plot and love, it’s got your typical love intrests, dark broody and blonde golden retreivor. Thankfully neither had shadow powers but I honestly didn’t care for them and was rooting for the random who showed up in like the last five chapters, also no spice. And really wasn’t even romantic in anyway fmc just thinks their hot and kisses both. The plot itself is pretty neat, Boyfriend #1 is murdered, and she runs from #3 with #2, before going with #3 and fleeing #2 and all the bad guys. And she has a time limit of like 1 day before she dies and has to find a magical item nobody has found for like over a decade or she dies. Honestly, I enjoyed it but was questioning every decision this woman made.

I got a book call All That We See or Seem that was written by him and just wondered if he’s worth reading or not.

Finished Smoke and Scar by Gretchen Powell.

It’s romantasy with a bit of twist. No shadow daddy, just a winged shadow mommy and a human guy she keeps saving.

But I enjoyed it so 4.5/5 It stuck to what it was and really didn’t mislead. Had some nice twists and turns I enjoyed. And it is a slow burn. Didn’t care for the instant awareness/attraction. There is no spice either, since I’m aware some people want that. Kinda reminded me of something I read/watched when I was a kid but I can’t remember what.

Finished katabasis last Thursday. 4/5. I enjoyed it and found it more comedic than anything. It was pretty silly and I enjoyed their interactions with the shades. There was one plot twist that I thought was kinda did not happen then found out in the end it did happen. I enjoyed it all together. I don’t want to post spoilers but I found it enjoyable. Also, you really don’t need to do any required reading. I understood the gist of everything without that.

Finished a new book in one day! Of Wisdom by hannah bashir. 4.5/5.

Not many books about athena, and it is a retelling, but one i enjoyed, i liked Pallas and Athena's bond and will definitly read the second book when it comes out.
