My name is Rowan (she/her/they) and I am brand new to writeblr, but not new to tumblr as a whole. I'm 29 (while writing this), cis-female and queer. I have been writing since around 2016 but this year will be the first time I will be publishing something original (aka not fanfiction ><). Though, I have been writing my own original work since 2017, I have yet to publish.

draft2digital

I am self-published and was using draft2digital as my distributor like so many others, however with their recent changes in policy I have decided to close my account and find other places to host my book. Barnes and Noble Press is working out so far but it's a temporary solution seeing as how they also changed their pricing methods and will not allow you to sell a print book under $14.99 after April 22, 2026.

For now, my novelette is on B&N Press, and nowhere else. I will keep looking for alternatives because I do think charging 14 bucks for such a short story is insane. For now it's $2.99 USD e-book price and $7.99 USD for paperback.

The word today was DANGEROUS! This is a snippet from "The Wild Ones: Bloodlines" my urban fantasy WIP.

“What is this meeting about?” Ward asked.             “We need to debrief.”             “We could have done that over the phone.” Ward shot him a look, “What is this, Yuda?”             He scratched his stubbly jaw and took a seat across the desk. “We found a sect of rogue hunters in the city. Intel says they have ties to Edmund Talbot.”             The wolf under her flesh raged at the sound of his name. She took several silent breaths and closed her eyes.             “Are you sure?” Eron asked.             “It’s been verified. Our hunters have been trailing them for two weeks. They haven’t seen Talbot, but his second in command, a woman named…” Suryadi leaned forward and thumbed through a stack of papers, “Rani Turvayana. She left New York just after the meeting, but the other hunters stayed.”             “What do you need from us?” Ward choked out between calming breaths.             “Head to Queens and bring them in. Alive or dead, the Council has authorized any use of force you deem necessary.”             “In the city limits, that’s dangerous. What about the police?” Eron asked.             “Once you are in the vicinity of their hideout call me and I’ll make sure the police stay out of your way until you say otherwise.”             Eron tapped Ward’s forearm, drawing her attention.             “I’m fine.” Ward looked at Suryadi, “We were banned from going after Talbot, so why us?”             “The higher-ups said it had to be you two. No idea why.”             “It doesn’t make sense…”             “No. But it’s a job worth a lot of money. If you don’t want it – I can call in a favor.”             “Don’t bother, we’ll take it.”             “Ari…” Eron started.             “It’s a job, Eron. It’s just a job.”

The word today was THROAT and of course I have this, I use this word way too often (Nevermind what that may say about me, hush...) This is a snippet from "A Night at the Brass Sword" my 90s horror WIP.

“Duncan? Can you hear me?” He smiled nervously, “Of course. Why, what’s wrong?” “Duncan…” He looked down then and saw his own knife to his throat. A small cut open, bleeding. Osari’s hand was on his, and she gently pulled the knife from his tight grip. He let go of the knife and stepped back and back and back until his body connected with a cold wall. He started breathing hard, ragged, his heart racing in kind. “What’s…what the fuck Osari?”

“Damn.” “You said it.” Ziva shook her head, “You guys don’t play.” A man in a comfortable looking swivel chair looked over and Kat followed his gaze. She smiled when she saw Ziva. “Hey Ziva, look at all of this! They have cameras set up already, and multiple sensors to monitor ghost activity. Two of them are night vision equipped cameras of course.” “Nice babe. Who are you?” She gestured to the man. He was handsome in a nerdy way with tousled black hair and stubble from his upper lip to his Adam’s apple. He had big round glasses and seemed to have a hearing aid in his left ear. “Pardon?” He gestured to his ear. “Sorry, uh, I asked who you are? I’m Ziva.” “Ah, the girlfriend.” His smile was sincere and utterly disarming. “Kat told me a lot about you. You both seem like good people. Sorry we all just barged in here like we owned the place.”

There were no windows in the basement. It was pitch black except for a flashing red light down the corridor to the left, which was claustrophobic. The red light blinked, like a flashing sign that said: danger this way.

GUESS WHAT CAME

It looks perfect, there are TWO OF THEM, they are identical and I am concerned...

You know, because one was $10 more and supposed to be double-spaced and a mess. So this is strange but I guess I have two books now.

I'm keeping one.

Not sure what to do with the other one, would be rude to send it to one beta reader and not the others. Maybe sign it and put it in the neighborhood library? Is that a thing or would that be in bad taste.

I've had four hours sleep. A nap, if you will. I'm not tired but I am insane.

And now I am extremely excited in a confused fashion.

If these are fine then what will the new file I uploaded look like? Why didn't it matter that I change the file? Why did they charge me more for one of them if they're the same fucking thing?

Marcella Lothaire is a mersinos, looking for work. When she stumbles upon the ancient town of Atavis, she discovers a violent witch has been sending her beasts to attack the town each night. Marcella sees the opportunity in this vile bloodshed and pays a visit to the local leader, a cruel and greedy man who will pay her a hefty sum to dispatch the witch. The promise of gold and danger is all the mersinos needs to hear. She has burned many bridges to gather the wealth she needs to go home again with her head held high, but the witch will not be claimed easily. Will Marcella claim her bounty, or be devoured by the witch of the ruins?
