Analyzing Imelda’s Surprise Hug
At first I thought adrenaline. Girl just sang and danced with security and a murderer (who she pwned 3x, you go girl) in front of thousands of people. Who wouldn’t get high?
But it wouldn’t explain how it transpired from this:
To this:

And now, a segment I like to call “Over Analyzing a Pixar Movie”
I was thinking about the one scene towards the end of Coco, where everyone’s backstage; Ernesto has Miguel by the hoodie, and the Riveras are backing him towards the edge.
During this scene, Héctor has a Final Death (I’m gonna call them “spasms”) spasm and knocks over a microphone stand
If we go back a couple of shots, we get an idea of where everything is in this scene, including where that microphone was
So, we can assume that this is where Héctor collapsed, and that’s how far away he was from the ledge
Here’s the last time we see him after Miguel is thrown off
And here’s where we see him again
But wait, how’d he get so close to the edge?
Here’s where I rip your heart out
I think that between those two shots of him, one of two things must’ve happened.
1. he mustered enough of his remaining strength to get to the edge, either by crawling or by fighting to stand up. Maybe the fear of Miguel being hurt or killed was enough for him to gather the strength he needed to get over there.
Or 2. Tía Victoria picked him up and brought him close enough to the edge.
When Miguel’s thrown, everyone rushes to the edge, everyone except one
Tía Victoria isn’t there
Maybe Victoria, knowing everyone was rushing to Miguel, stayed by Héctor, and helped him over.
I don’t think it’s that far of a stretch, Héctor’s her grandfather. And sure, she’s been taught to hate this man for the entirety of her exsistance, but I think by this point Mamá Imelda has made it clear she no longer hates him for leaving. They watched Imelda perform with Héctor, unofficially lift the music ban (changing her final condition from “never play music again” to “never forget how much your family loves you”) and she was the first to rush to Héctor’s side when he had that spasm. So I think maybe Victoria could’ve been more forgiving toward Héctor as well.
Or maybe it was an error on the animator’s part and I’m just trying to find more reasons to cry over this movie. 🙃
But enjoy the images I’ve just put into your brains
Ok g’noight
Coco music
If you are interested in Mexican music after having watched pixar’s coco, but have no idea where to begin, then this post is for you.
An introduction to Mexican music for beginners: I would recommend you to watch the golden era Mexican movies. Music was huge in movies back then, and Ernesto de la Cruz was inspired in both Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante, two very famous actors and singers from that time. Other singers had a more “comical” style and still sang, like Tin Tan (though they were more acclaimed as comedians). Other were only comedians, but were pretty good, like Cantinflas. Really, those 4 are very well loved by everyone. And Ernesto de la Cruz was partly what made me feel like this film was really accurate and inspired in the Mexico I know, unlike other movies like Nacho Libre, for example.

Sorry, I have no idea what happened after that, I never listened to any music in the radio while growing up, only oldies, and I stopped watching tv in the early 2000s. So, if you know what is listened nowadays in Mexico and who are the big names and their greatest song, please feel free to post your own list in a reply.
