Katie Mitchell’s new production for the Royal Opera is a feminist take on Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.

In the opera, Enrico forces his sister Lucia to marry advantageously in order to save the ailing Lammermoor fortune. He is horrified to learn she has actually fallen in love with his sworn enemy, Edgardo.
