A quiet loon doing some evening hunting on the visitor side of the lake, far from the resident breeding pair's watchful eyes! On this lake, the dominant, breeding pair of loons stick to the shallower half of the lake where the best nesting and preferred hunting spots are, leaving the other half of the lake mostly unguarded unless there's a disturbance. This means that there is an ever-shuffling cast of visitor loons appearing in the area, usually staying a day or two each before moving on. I only saw this particular individual for one day, but it hung around, swimming up and down the shore for the entire day before likely moving on to another lake. It took the place of a cormorant that was in the same area the day before!
