I feel like Roy wears his knee brace under his jeans. And he *says* it’s because knee braces and jeans don’t mix and that it keeps it from sliding around which is. Technically true, yeah, but mostly it’s because he can’t admit to himself or others that his knee still bothers him that much.

He does that until one night, after a particularly long day, Jamie’s undressing him. And he’s fine, he really is, hardly even noticed anything, until Jamie is pulling back and staring at him with something akin to shock and disbelief, because there is blood running down Roy’s leg from where the rough stitching of the brace had practically rubbed a hole in his leg. And Roy hadn’t said anything all day, barely even adjusted the thing.

So every time after that, when they go out, Jamie casually feels up his knee, making sure Roy’s not hiding a knee brace. And if he’s not and Jamie catches him limping or favoring it? He makes Roy go put one on. Over his jeans this time, thank you very much.
