A rule change pushed by White House officials would slash benefits or end support for as many as 400,000 Supplemental Security Income recipi
The Trump administration wants to make a rule change that would decrease or end benefits for SSI recipients who live with their family. As many as 400,000 disabled people may have their benefits cut if this rule change occurs.
It's worth noting as always that as things currently stand, the MAXIMUM benefit a person can receive from SSI is $994 a month.
If two people on SSI are married, the MAXIMUM they can receive is $1,491 a month, total, for both of them. (Meaning marriage to another SSI recipient reduces your maximum income possible to $745 a person each month.)
Could you live on that?
Could you live on that without living with family?
The administration is working on a rule change that would deduct the value of a disabled adult’s bedroom from their SSI allotment, even if the family members they live with are poor enough to qualify for food stamps. This would mean slashing the benefits of some of the most low-income SSI recipients by up to a third — about $330 a month in Burton’s case — or ending their support altogether. The SSI rule change is being reviewed by the White House Office of Management and Budget, a process that involves editing the draft regulation and considering where it falls on the list of the president’s priorities. Once it’s returned to the Social Security Administration for initial publication, there will be an opportunity for public comment; it could take until next year to be finalized, depending on the amount of opposition it faces. (quote from article above)
AND IT NEEDS TO FACE A LOT OF OPPOSITION, SO CALL AGAIN!!
im gonna look up contact info for the office of management and budget staff, White House Budget Director Russell Vought, and Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. Bombard them. no peace for em.
And they're going after disabled people cause they think A, no one will fight for them and B, they're too weak to fight for themselves.
This will kill people btw. Let’s not beat around the bush on that.
I want to add that SSI is also the one where you aren't allowed to have more than $2,000 worth of money or assets to your name if you're single or $3,000 if you're married or else the government cancels your benefits.
The cap isn't just on monthly income, it's on how much you're allowed to have period.

🍓 June 29th, 2026 | Strawberry Moon 🍓
Tomorrow night we have a special full moon in the sky. In astrology, it is known as Strawberry Moon. Out of the 12 or 13 full moons in the year, this one is associated with friendships, travels, change, joy.
It is significant, as it shows up alongside the summer solstice. It marks a turning point in the wheel of the year: from now on, the days will become shorter again, darkness winning against the light once more.
-- -- --
A few ideas below to celebrate:
🍓 Spend time with your friends, ideally outside at night. Watch the moon together, and reflect on what brings you joy.
🍓 Reconnect with your inner child by reading a book or watching a movie you used to love when you were young.
🍓 Plan a trip somewhere far from your home this summer.
🍓 Make an altar celebrating everything that brings you joy. Use a candle with your favourite colour, trinkets you love, items from your childhood.
🍓 Use strawberries in your cooking. This one is simple, and a little obvious, but make sure to bake something nice with strawberries. They're in season and delicious right now.
🍓 Some useful spells you can try: inner child magic - protection spell - abundance spell.
When I say "connect with nature" I don't just mean the aesthetic forests with deer and beautiful flowers.
I mean the weeds growing through concrete, the fungus that grows on the rotten shed, the nettles that always seem to return and the scary, spindly cellar spider in the corner of the bathroom.
Nature is not always pretty or magical - the pigeons and seagulls you swat at are nature too, the wasps and flies that hover by your meals are animals too, store-bought strawberries and the leaves that fall from your neighbour's tree are not all that different from the Giant Sequoias and it's seeds.
If you want to connect and understand nature, I mean *really* connect to it, in it's entirety, you have to seek out and learn about the ugly, scary and mundane things as well. You don't have to like it, just don't forget that it's there.
a collection of traditional ukrainian rusalka songs, recorded in different villages (each song is titled by the name of the village). these songs are meant to accompany a ritual called "provody rusalok" — escorting the rusalky, that signify the end of rusalka week, and serve as a guide for rusalky to find their way back to the otherworld
Dmytro Pavelko performed as a drag queen Mystique Grimes. Was killed by russian missile on May 14.
She dared live fully and freely herself. Rest in freedom, beautiful. Memory eternal. Спочивай на волі, красуню. Вічна пам'ять
a very important reminder ‼️so many awful things and people are tied to russia, and it's disgusting
Some time ago, I received a question about how people in the russian-occupied territories of Ukraine live. My mother called today (she lives in Donetsk). It's a miracle she's still able to call me with a VPN. She shared news of my hometown. She had to close the window to say all this, despite not actually saying anything criminal. Because that's what life is like there. Everyone is scared.
Everything we knew in that town all our lives has pretty much ceased to exist - and, mind you, the town is not on the frontline. Nothing there has been destroyed, it's just been under occupation since 2014. Now our industrial bakery, meat processing plant, and coking plant - they all have stopped production under the glorious russian governance. Our steel mill - the main town employer (it's a monotown, everything is dependent on that mill) - has been put on "hot conservation," which basically means it's kept operational but produces nothing.
She says at all the border checkpoints (and there still is a border between the "DPR" and russia, despite them proclaiming it a part of russia in 2022), they check everyone's phones. Every phone has spyware on it, and every conversation is being listened to. She says sometimes she'll be talking to my father on the phone and then hear other voices commenting on what she has said, or just chatting in the background. I can't tell you if it's true or not, but I believe her.
So there you have it: personal accounts of what life there looks like.
I keep this blog fandom light but I can’t stay silent about this
If you care about humanity you should care about Ukrainians too and russia has launched one of the bloodiest, cruelest and heaviest attacks on Ukraine’s capital today
In the middle of the night, when people are sleeping, they started bombing civilian districts with all types of missiles
Lots of buldings damaged, many injured and yet unknown about the exact number of casualties
One of the biggest cities in Europe is all on fire being bombed to ground all because the little goblin and his ppl don’t want Ukraine to exist anymore
They want us to sign a peace deal that’s essentially capitulation and give up everything we have, what we fought for
Please, just look up information and spread the word
I know the news barely talk about Ukraine anymore, especially in the US. I know because I live here and I got asked about what’s the situation back home for the first time in MONTHS recently, in months… and every time I don’t know what to say because it is bad, still really really bad and people need help
I have friends in Kyiv, I am constantly anxious about them. I have my family and friends in other cities and I am constantly worried and scared for them
This isn’t right, this shouldn’t be our reality, this is NOT okay and I’m writing this as a desperate post just begging people, whoever reads this, to not forget about Ukraine
Ukrainian grave magic
The Monday after Holy Trinity, find the grave of a drowned person. Rolling on their grave will take away back pain.
Leave offerings of green wreaths on the grave.
(ritual practiced during rusalka/mermaid week by villagers formerly of the Chernobyl region)
🌿💀🌿💀🌿
in songs prescribed for the rusalka week a common motif is of rusalka asking people to give her clothes. "girls, sisters, give me namitka — if not a thin one, then at least white" (дівки-сестрички, дайте намітки — хоч не тоненької, аби біленької); "girls, sisters, give me a skirt, oh early-early" (дєвочкі-сестрички, дайте мнє споднички, ой рано-рано), "boys, brothers, give me a shirt" (хлопчики-браточки, дайте мнє сорочки)
clothes are considered, among other things, a marker of humanity; dead, as well as beasts, don't need clothes. traditionally, ukrainians buried their dead in linen shirts, which was basically their underwear — and in a traditonal society, being in your underwear is almost the same as being naked. since the point of the rusalka week is to invite them into your space so they can gift you and your household prosperity, to give them clothes is one of the ways by which they can enter the human world. on the other hand, the girls that participate in rusalian rituals may themselves undress and uncover their hair, therefore coming closer to the dead and the bestial. both rusalky and the living therefore can meet halfway through.
