Hi! Thanks so much for visiting my blog. My name is Rose Aiko Hamada, and my dads are Fred and Tadashi Hamada (yes, the famous inventor) and I have an older brother named Danny. I love sewing plushies and my Tía Honey Lemon is teaching me how to make my own cosplays! I’m a little obsessed with Tangled and the Disney Fairies. I’m hoping to make some new friends here, especially since I’m starting San Fransokyo High this fall and I’m a bit nervous about it. I can’t wait to get to meet everyone!

A Slow Day at the Lucky Cat Cafe (Open RP Starter)

Overall it’s been a fairly quiet day at the Lucky Cat Cafe. Papa had and Uncle Hiro both thought that all of their kids (Rose, Danny, and their cousins Hope and Dev) should spend time helping out at the cafe their Grandma Cass runs, both to help grandma and because they said it had been a formative experience for them growing up doing the same thing. Rose doesn’t mind to much–sometimes she gets a little nervous around the customers, but most of them are really nice, and Grandma Cass always lets her have leftover pastries. And on quiet days like today she’s allowed to read or work on sewing projects at the counter if there aren’t guests around. It’s actually been really slow today–no one’s come in for at least an hour–so Rose is enjoying reading the latest volume of her favorite manga, My Dress Up Darling. She’s just starting to wonder if anyone else is going to come in today when she hears the bells over the door chime, signaling that they finally have a new customer. Quickly she stows her book on the empty shelf under the register before calling out, “Hello, welcome to the Lucky Cat Cafe!”

Taryn’s Aunt El had invited her to stay with her in San Fransokyo for a few weeks over the summer. After some (a lot of) convincing her parents said yes and she was off to pack her bags. Even though she missed Boulder she felt very grown up going on an airplane by herself for the first time. And she was very excited to see her Aunt El for the first time in a while. Her aunt would still have to work while Taryn was visiting but she said that Taryn could go to all sorts of places in the neighbourhood while she was gone. Today was her second full day here and Aunt El had to go to work. She had written down some instructions on how to get to a cafe close by and left her some money. After Taryn had gotten bored of being by herself, she grabbed the instructions, put her sketchbook pencils and the money her aunt had left her in her bag, and headed out making sure to lock the door behind her with the spare key.

Taryn quickly looks up from the paper when she heard the greeting. “Hey!” She looked around the cafe seeing how quiet it was. The perfect place to draw and relax. She wasn’t quite used to all the noise of the city yet. “I’ve never been here before I’m visiting my aunt and she said I should come here for some food but I don’t know what to get. Do you have a favourite thing?” She fiddled with her butterfly pendant necklace as she looked at a menu nearby.

“Welcome to the city!” Rose says with a bright smile–she’s curious to ask what the newcomer might think of the San Fransokyo, but first she needs to answer her question. “Everything my grandma makes is amazing so it’s hard to pick a favorite–I guess it helps to narrow it down a bit! Are you looking for a food or a drink, or both?”

Taryn smiles back and her eyes close for a second when she does, “Thanks!” She drops her necklace feeling much less nervous about things because of how nice the person seems. “I think both would be good… I really like raspberry’s and chocolate if that helps!” She pauses to pull her bag higher onto her shoulder. “I like your hair by the way.”

“Aww, thank you!” Rose beams at her before considering the combination the girl had mentioned. “Well… We do have a really good raspberry and white chocolate latte–and if you’re looking for something colder we do offer it in both iced and frappe options!”

“That sounds really good!” She trailed off before continuing “I’ve tried coffee before though and didn’t like it.” She scuffs her shoe on the ground in thought. “Oh I know! Do you have raspberry tea?”

“We do!” Rose confirms. “We can make that hot or iced! And if you still want something with chocolate we have a lot of pastries with chocolate in them!”

Great! She bounced on her toes from excitement, “Then I’ll have an iced raspberry tea and a chocolate croissant please!”

“Right away!” Rose beams at her. “Would you like your tea sweet or unsweet?”

“Sweetened please!” Taryn said with a smile and pulled her bag off her shoulder to find the money her aunt had given her “how much does that cost?”

Rose gives her the total before admitting in a low voice, “I like my tea sweetened too–I know a lot of people like regular tea but it just tastes bitter to me!”

“Sweetened tea is the best kind! My mom says there’s no point in doing stuff you don’t like just because other people do.” Taryn puts the money on the counter carefully counting out the total twice, “I think that’s the right amount” she says sliding the total over

She’s gotten pretty fast at it, and it’s not long before she’s bringing the order over to the table. “Here you go!” she says cheerfully. “I hope you enjoy!” She can’t help but notice that the girl is sketching, and she’s wants to ask her about what she’s drawing, but she feels a little too nervous to–she knows she gets self conscious if she’s working on a sewing project and someone starts asking her questions about it and she doesn’t want to do that to someone else.

This looks really good” she begins to quickly rearrange the table so that she can focus on the food in front of her. While doing to she continues to talk “my name is Taryn by the way. What’s yours?” The smell of the croissant makes her realize how hungry she is and she quickly takes a bite. “Oh wow this is super good!”

“Hi, I’m Rose!” Rose answers, grinning at her. “And I’m glad you like it! Do you mind if I ask your pronouns?” She always likes to make sure when she’s making a new friend.

“She and her.” Taryn responds with a smile fiddling with her pencil. “What are yours?” She takes another bite of her croissant and doodles stars along the edge of a new page in her sketchbook. She was happy that Rose hadn’t asked about what she was drawing like most people did

“Usually she/her, but I think sometimes I’m he/him?” Rose answers. “I don’t know, I’m still figuring it out,” she admits. “I have a lot of trans people in my adopted family and everyone tells me I don’t have to know right away and gender can be fluid so I’m trying not to let it make me anxious, if that makes sense? But a lot of things make me anxious, not just trying to figure out my gender.” Wow, that was probably way too much information to tell a stranger, and she nervously rubs her arm, hoping she hadn’t made things awkward.

“I don’t think grown up have that kinda stuff figured out most of the time so it makes sense if you don’t.” She thinks for a moment “I don’t think I get anxious a lot sometimes about the environment…. And math tests those are,” she pauses and throws her hands around a bit to express what she means. “You know?” her relaxed attitude relatively unaffected by Roses’ sudden dump of information. “But when I feel like that I like being with my dog Boulder he’s so big it’s like he squishes all the of that stuff out of me when we cuddle.”

“Aww, that’s so sweet!” Rose beams at her, glad that things weren’t awkward as she’d feared. “I have a kitten, her name is Sakura, and she helps a bit! My family helps too–anxiety runs in my Papa’s family so everyone has different ways of dealing with it so I get a lot of advice, and some of it helps. I don’t think my Dad really gets anxiety? But he’s really supportive anyways!”

Papa had and Uncle Hiro both thought that all of their kids (Rose, Danny, and their cousins Hope and Dev) should spend time helping out at the cafe their Grandma Cass runs, both to help grandma and because they said it had been a formative experience for them growing up doing the same thing. Rose doesn’t mind to much–sometimes she gets a little nervous around the customers, but most of them are really nice, and Grandma Cass always lets her have leftover pastries. And on quiet days like today she’s allowed to read or work on sewing projects at the counter if there aren’t guests around. It’s actually been really slow today–no one’s come in for at least an hour–so Rose is enjoying reading the latest volume of her favorite manga, My Dress Up Darling. She’s just starting to wonder if anyone else is going to come in today when she hears the bells over the door chime, signaling that they finally have a new customer. Quickly she stows her book on the empty shelf under the register before calling out, “Hello, welcome to the Lucky Cat Cafe!”

Taryn’s Aunt El had invited her to stay with her in San Fransokyo for a few weeks over the summer. After some (a lot of) convincing her parents said yes and she was off to pack her bags. Even though she missed Boulder she felt very grown up going on an airplane by herself for the first time. And she was very excited to see her Aunt El for the first time in a while. Her aunt would still have to work while Taryn was visiting but she said that Taryn could go to all sorts of places in the neighbourhood while she was gone. Today was her second full day here and Aunt El had to go to work. She had written down some instructions on how to get to a cafe close by and left her some money. After Taryn had gotten bored of being by herself, she grabbed the instructions, put her sketchbook pencils and the money her aunt had left her in her bag, and headed out making sure to lock the door behind her with the spare key.

Taryn quickly looks up from the paper when she heard the greeting. “Hey!” She looked around the cafe seeing how quiet it was. The perfect place to draw and relax. She wasn’t quite used to all the noise of the city yet. “I’ve never been here before I’m visiting my aunt and she said I should come here for some food but I don’t know what to get. Do you have a favourite thing?” She fiddled with her butterfly pendant necklace as she looked at a menu nearby.

"Welcome to the city!" Rose says with a bright smile--she's curious to ask what the newcomer might think of the San Fransokyo, but first she needs to answer her question. "Everything my grandma makes is amazing so it's hard to pick a favorite--I guess it helps to narrow it down a bit! Are you looking for a food or a drink, or both?"
