I learned about a lot of queer identities by interacting with fandoms. I would see something I didn't understand and I'd go look it up. It's also just fun reading about people's own identities projected onto the characters they love.
And i do genuinely think people would get a LOT out of fandoms being more inclusive of aspec people.
I've noticed a lot of people do not know the difference between the words aromantic and asexual. There's also a lot of people who use the word aroace when speaking about aromantic or asexual characters/people. And there's also a lot of people who have never heard about aromantic people.
I want fandoms to start fucking interacting with posts made by aspec people from their pov. I want fandoms to start actually interacting with posts about aspec headcanons and readings of characters they like- and I want them to actually READ those posts and not try to argue about why "this character can't be ace because x and y".
Why is it that when someone has a headcanon about a character they enjoy being ace or aro, allo people jump out of the woodwork to explain how those identities wouldn't work for that character!
I want fandoms to stop ignoring aspec people. I want allos in fandoms to pull their heads out of their asses, listen to aspecs when we say fandoms are not fun and borderline hostile for a lot of us, and actually try to get better!
Speaking as someone who just does not like romance- fandoms are incredibly annoying to navigate if you do not care for romantic relationships.
I don't need fandoms to stop shipping, I need fandoms to stop acting like shipping is the only fun thing about being in a fandom.
