Handmade collage comic strip circa 1957, signed “Jim,” on an off-white 14.5 x 4 sheet. Comic features clipped cartoon characters, many of which are military or royalty, affixed to the sheet, with speech bubbles written by Morrison beside each one. From left to right, the words read: “Arrest this queen…H=80(2)H…Whee!…I’ll make him eat shit…This is the day I put Drano in all the drains…We use Kotex…What can I do for these big tits?…Why Don’t you fight me you bastard…Onward ever forward men. Lou Gehrig Official Reach American League baseball Signed

Official Reach American League baseball signed in black ink on the side panels by Lou Gehrig, Herb Pennock, Lyn Lary, Bill Karlon, and Lou McEvoy, with several others faded and imperceptible. In good to very good condition, with most signatures very faded (Gehrig, Pennock, and Lary are strongest but still quite light), moderate overall toning, and scattered surface loss to a few areas (affecting some of the less-important signatures. The baseball dates to 1930, as Karlon’s only two Major League games occurred in that year; McEvoy’s career was just a bit longer, appearing in a total of 34 games for the Yankees between 1930 and 1931. Although Hall of Famers Gehrig and Pennock are the main prize, these other autographs are difficult to find and essential for the Yankee completist. Very rare Challenger flown LRSI Tile

Available to US bidders only. Very rare Challenger-flown LRSI (High-temperature Reusable Surface Insulation) tile, 6 x 6.5, #V070-394044-137, Serial No. 008651. Accompanied by its Flown Hardware tag, filled in by a technician, “Orbiter No. 099, STS Number 17,” (referring to its 17th processing flow), dated October 26, 1984. These tiles would cover the upper wing near the leading edge. They are were used in selected areas of the forward, mid, and aft fuselage, vertical tail, and the OMS/RCS pods. These tiles protect areas where reentry temperatures are above 1,200° F. A similar tile recently sold in our auction for nearly $3,000. RR Auction COA.

Apollo 8 Flown mission patch and two flown treaties

Flown mission patch and two flown treaties, all carried on board the Apollo 8 mission. Triangular shaped patch measures approximately 4.5 x 4, with the two treaties, “Treaty of the Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies,” and “Agreement on the Rescue of Astronauts, the Return of Astronauts and the Return of Objects Launched into Outer Space,” both measuring approximately 5.25 x 3.5. All three items are affixed to a 13.25 x 19.25 presentation certificate which states, “Carried on board Apollo 8 first lunar flight, 21–27 December, 1968,” and bears autopen signatures of Bill Anders, James Lovell, and Frank Borman. Double-suede-matted and framed to an overall size of 21.5 x 17. Signatures faded, with Anders’s being the lightest, but all still legible, otherwise fine condition. Orville Wright hand-sketched aviation diagrams

Two original pencil sketches by Wright given to Charles Dollfus in 1920: one on a 6 x 5 sheet, consisting of an aerodynamic-looking diagram surrounded by numbers; and the other on a 7.25 x 11 sheet, showing a box diagram with various lines and arrows. In overall fine condition, with moderate toning to both, and edge chips and tears to the larger sheet. Dollfus (1893–1981) was a French aviator and longtime conservator of the Musée de l'Air. Johannes Kepler Incredibly rare signature

German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer (1571–1630) best known for his eponymous laws of planetary motion. Extremely rare ink signature, “Johannes Kepplar, Mathematicus,” on a light brown 5 x 3 slip, dated 1628 by Kepler, who also adds a two line notation along top edge, and a well-defined red wax seal next to signature. Mounted and framed with a woodcut engraving to an overall size of 10 x 14. In fine condition, with a couple small ink and pencil notations. The only Kepler autograph we have offered in over 30 years. John Hancock Rare Faneuil Hall lottery ticket

Rare Faneuil Hall lottery ticket dated June 1765, 3 x 1.75, boldly signed at the bottom in black ink, “John Hancock.” Ticket reads, in full: “Faneuil-Hall Lottery, No. Five. The Possessor of this Ticket (No. 3990) is intitled to any Prize drawn against said Number, in a Lottery granted by an Act of the General Court of the Province of the Massachusetts-Bay for Rebuilding Faneuil-Hall; subject to no Deduction.” Matted and framed with a portrait of Hancock to an overall size of 8.5 x 12. In very good condition, with overall dampstaining affecting the appearance of the signature but not the boldness or legibility of ink, and a small central cancellation cut. In Colonial times, lotteries were a highly regarded method of financing worthwhile projects—such as the rebuilding of Faneuil Hall, the famous Boston marketplace and meeting hall that had been destroyed in a 1761 fire. At the time, such money-making efforts were seen as investments, and were endorsed by local leaders, including John Hancock. Interestingly, Hancock would later come to disdain public lotteries as a method of fundraising, concluding that they encouraged gambling while producing meager results. Although thousands of such tickets were printed in Colonial America, not all were signed by Hancock, and only a small percentage of those signed examples have survived the centuries. John F. Kennedy 1963 Typed Letter Signed

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 10, White House letterhead, January 26, 1963. Letter to California Governor Edmund Brown. In full: “I certainly agree with the thought of your letter of January 11 as to the wisdom of the Federal-state collaboration in planning for emergency and post attack operations. The Secretary of Defense has been asked to evaluate the staff study prepared by your task force, and to communicate directly with you concerning technical and procedural matters involved, as well as to advise me further concerning Department of Defense findings. I appreciate your interest in the Administration’s efforts to advance the civil defense program.” Impressively matted and framed with two portraits of Kennedy, a patch of the presidential seal, and two large commemorative plates, one being a gold-inlaid, sterling silver portrait plate issued in a limited edition by the Franklin Mint in the early-to-mid 1970s, to an overall size of 37.75 x 29. A couple of horizontal folds lightly passing through portions of signature, staple holes to top left, two office stamps and several passages of text underlined in red, otherwise fine condition. Shortly after taking office in 1961, President Kennedy created the Office of Civil Defense to oversee the nation’s non-military defense programs. Narrowly avoiding nuclear conflict in the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy assigned the OCD the enormous task of managing the Community Fallout Shelter Program. Though many members of Congress felt that the Federal government was overstepping its bounds into individual states’ responsibilities, the program moved forward, creating a network of concrete-lined underground fallout shelters sufficient to serve as a refuge for millions of people in case of nuclear war. An excellent letter in response to California Governor Edmund Brown’s contribution for his state’s participation in the Shelter Program, involving one of Kennedy’s fastest moving projects, designed to help set his country at ease despite the ever-present threats of the Soviet Union. RR Auction Marilyn Monroe 1951 Bank Check

Bank check, 6 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Monroe, payable to Schwabs for $10, September 1, 1951. Monroe has added her bank information at the top, “Bank of America, Sunset & Laurel,” as well as her address at the bottom, “611 N. Crescent Drive.” In fine condition, with expected cancellation holes and bank stamps (affecting some portions of her writing but not the gorgeous signature). Schwab's Pharmacy was a gathering place for Hollywood’s movers and shakers—Judy Garland, Orson Welles, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Clark Gable, and the Marx Brothers were among those known to frequent the establishment. Young hopefuls also converged on the drug store, hoping to rub shoulders with these celebrities and catch their ‘big break’—and Monroe was no exception. According to The Unabridged Marilyn (1987), she was lunching there in 1949 when she learned about auditions for a bit part in the Marx Brothers comedy Love Happy—a role she won. Confederate general (1821–1904) who distinguished himself at Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Chickamauga. Ink signature, “Your mt. obt. servt., James Longstreet, Brig. Gen.,” on an off-white 3.5 x 1.25 slip clipped from a letter. The very tip of the descending stroke of the first letter in his signature clipped off, and light show-through from writing to reverse, otherwise fine condition. Series 1969 D one dollar bill, signed vertically on the portrait side in blue ballpoint by Armstrong. In very good condition, with moderate show-through staining from adhesive to reverse (primarily affecting borders; signature unaffected). Consignor notes that the autograph was obtained at the Houston Convention Center in 1969.
