SERIES I NEED TO READ
For those who don’t know, I am terrible at reading the books I have on my shelf and am incredibly late on reading all the popular book series that are surrounding the online book community. So, to remind myself, here is a listen of ten book series that I am planning to start in the near(-ish) future.
A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC SERIES by V. E. Schwab
This is literally all over Booktube and Booklr and Bookstagram and any other book/social media portmanteau. I have only heard good things about this series but I’m so worried that I won’t love it as much as everyone else. I mean magic and multiple dimensions sounds epic so hopefully it’ll live up to all the expectations.
THE DARKEST MINDS SERIES by Alexandra Bracken
With The Darkest Minds becoming a film this year, I’m definitely in a rush to start this series. This is probably one of the highest series of my list just because it was one of the first that I discovered when I started interacting with the online book world.
ILLUMINAE SERIES by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Yet another trilogy. I actually own the first book of this series which I got at a writers event with Jay Kristoff. I unfortunately didn’t get it signed but the memories will always be there. The hype for the third book in this series was so loud this year and, again, I have heard nothing but good things. I tried to start reading the first one a while ago but was thrown off by the different style. Hopefully second time will be better.
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES SERIES by Sabaa Tahir
With the release of the new covers, this series is bouncing back into popularity (not that it ever really left). I can’t decide whether I want to buy the original or go for the new ones but isn’t that just a first world problem.
THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS SERIES (AND SPIN-OFF SERIES) by Cassandra Clare
I know, I’m sorry. I’ve never read a Cassandra Clare book. I’ve seen some of the Shadowhunters TV show and know the basic plot but I’ve never actually read a whole book by her. I’ve heard a lot of people rave about these books and consider them their all time favourites but I’ve also heard some issues with Clare as a writer. However, I won’t knock it ‘til I try it.
SHATTER ME SERIES by Tahereh Mafi
A classic YA series. This series also saw a resurgence in popularity after the release of Restore Me and, again, everything positive. I’ve also heard a lot about Tahereh Mafi in general because I’ve seen a lot from her husband Ransom Riggs and she seems to be an absolutely amazing person. I can’t wait for this series.
THE GRISHA TRILOGY by Leigh Bardugo
This series I mostly heard about because of its companion series Six of Crows which, if you haven’t heard, is apparently an amazing duology. I want to read this series first though, so I can get to know the world before jumping into the next installment.
TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE by Jenny Han
This is another series getting a movie and the trailer looks absolutely adorable. I think this series stands out because you don’t normally see a contemporary series. It just seems like a sweet, lovely romance series and then once I’ve read the books, I can dive into the movie.
RED QUEEN SERIES by Victoria Aveyard
This series is a mystery for me because I’ve heard very mixed things. Some love it, some hate it, some love to hate it, some hate to love it. I bought the first book as an ebook but never got around to reading it so it mind be the first I get to on this list. Who knows? I’m almost definitely going to be writing a review on the first book after I read it.
THE LUNAR CHRONICLES BY Marissa Meyer
The final series on this list is none other than the renowned Lunar Chronicles which I’m very curious about. Normally I wouldn’t like sci-fi books (another reason it has taken me so long to read Illuminae) but with the fairytale twist I have high hopes. I’m a sucker for any kind of fairytale appropriation.
And that was the ten series I might get to soon. (that’s if my book buying ban gets lifted :P). Which should I read first? Any that you think I shouldn’t read? Peace out.
