Yknow what, I’m so sad we never got to see Ripley grow old. I know Alien didn’t need any more sequels but god, if only Alien 3 didn’t exist. No we can’t have a movie about Ripley, Newt, Hicks and Bishop living comfortably on earth until the next big extraterrestrial threat arrives. No we can’t show them being their little traumatized found-family selves struggling to cope with the events of Aliens during the prologue. Newt growing up, calling Ripley mom, maybe even being adopted. Nah, fuckit, let’s just kill ‘em all, including Ripley.

On one hand I looove Alien: Ressurection for its goofiness and toxic alien x robot yuri amidst the horrors but I know we wouldn’t have it without Alien 3, because even if Ripley did live out her life only to be reincarnated, obviously Sigourney can’t just do that, so it would have to be a midquel of sorts and idk if they ever thought that far ahead with Alien, that’s more of a George Lucas thing (later on of course).

And that’s probably why I gravitate towards Grace so much despite her being such underrated character. OBVIOUSLY I’m not saying I disregard her own unique personality but I see a lot of Ripley in her. She’s just. The older Ripley I really wanted from the Alien franchise, and knowing that James Cameron created her I wouldn’t even be surprised if that was his response to Alien 3, that he felt he needed to fix what the other writers and directors didn’t get right, and gave Sigourney a second chance to play this broken, middle aged woman who smokes ten packs a day to cope with the fact that the kids she loved and cared for have died, and she blames herself…

Been watching The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart lately for obvious reasons and couldn’t help but notice the similarities between June and Twig and Bill and Frank from The Last of Us. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

June and Bill are the protectors, the gruff and hardened guardians of their family and property. They carry a rifle to protect what’s their’s from the world, somewhat paranoid and anxious. They can’t afford to lose any more than they already have, even if it makes them seem a little rough around the edges. They have a soft spot reserved only for their loved ones.

Frank and Twig wear their hearts on their sleeves, almost sickeningly sweet. They’re just as strong as their partners though, sometimes even more so just by being open and vulnerable. They’ve lost things too, but they choose to live unguarded and free.

I haven’t finished Lost Flowers yet so these are just the things I’ve noticed so far :))
