Last month I completed these decoupage shoes for an assignment and asked Sarah Wendell if she would be interested in featuring them on her website. She was and dubbed them The Most Awesome Shoes in the Universe and pretty soon images of them were off running through the internet because as it turns out, other people were pretty keen on them too.

I'm incredibly proud of them because they are a reflection of my reading choices, as well as a subversive twist on femininity and sexuality. And they have a pink glitter trim.

I can't begin to describe how excited and happy and floaty I feel right now.

I'm not allowed to read Once Upon a Tower until the semester ends (the holidays are so close I can almost taste them!) but this, this, just gave me a reason to keep working. The sooner I finish my assignments, the sooner I can read for fun.

In Defence of Re-reading Novels

I just had a minor disagreement with The Mother about my books.  She seems to think that once you've read something there's no need to read it again and certainly no need to keep the book. Apparently I'm supposed to give it away. Bah!

Re-reads are one of my favourite things to do. Aside from the joy of the story, and the fact that you are able to appreciate the nuances of the unfolding drama, there's also the memory that goes with each novel. For instance, I bought When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn when I was on holiday in London.

It was my very first time traveling alone and it felt like a huge adventure. I left my hostel that morning and went in search of a coffee and found myself in a bookstore with a fantastic romance novel selection, so I let myself buy one book which was WHWW.

Every time I re-read WHWW I am reminded of that morning and how excited I was to be a backpacker half a world away from home. I remember how amazing it was to be able to walk through the streets I'd read so much about. I remember finding romance novels for a reasonable price (seriously Australian prices are ridiculous compared to UK and USA). Why would I ever want to let go of the book that holds those memories?

Besides, have you ever read When He Was Wicked? It is so completely awesome! Even without memories it deserves to be a permanent fixture on my bookshelf.
