Higgs from death stranding is so wild cause I beat the first game recently and i didn't really read or collect many of the interviews so the entire game presented him to be as just this batshit insane nihilistic terrorist with an almost cartoonishly desire to end life itself.
And then you go and actually read the journal entries that are his backstory and while he is still all of those things you learn he's also kind of the victim here between his childhood and constant exposure to death and BTs of COURSE he would grow up hateful of humanity and be "seduced" by someone who can give him godlike powers and promise extinction.
And then Sam comes into the picture and you can feel the jealousy being implied at in the story. Why does she pay attention to him and not me. Why does she love him and not me. The room full of pictures of Sam is insane when you read into everything and look at the bigger picture. He's not just obsessed with Sam, but he's so deeply jealous that Amelie genuinely loves Sam and not him that it's literally driving him insane.
Higgs isn't a one dimensional "crazy terrorist" antagonist like the cutscenes suggest. He's a scared, traumatized little boy who just wants to belong somewhere and is immediately swept up by the one person who is able to manipulate him by giving him unlimited power and a way to get back at humanity itself for "wronging" him. He isn't some grand criminal mastermind like the game tells you at first. He's a victim, yet another pawn in Amelie's game. It just sucks literally all of this is only found in the supplementary material.
