It's about fear...
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear." Mark Twain It’s been a while. Actually, it’s been over a year since I’ve sent a daily message. And boy, has life changed. From Chicago, to NY, life is this crazy animal on an interesting journey. That’s fine — I plan to grab this bull by its horns. “I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.” Rosa Parks "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." Nelson Mandela You see, it’s all about fear, and how we, are supposed to embrace it. I don’t think there’s anything more fearful than how I got to New York City, but I’m pretty sure embracing this fearless mindset is preparing me for what lies ahead. We tend to fear what’s unknown because at some point we started believing that if we are in control of every step of our lives, we will prosper. But we too often find ourselves disappointed when things don’t go as planned. That’s why I believe we’re supposed to be in control of one thing — our reaction to fear. Some of us let it limit us by staying in our comfort zones. But I believe extraordinary people, who do extraordinary things, respond to fear with faith and live a fearless life, pursuing their passion, changing the lives of others, and making this world a better place. Someone asked me how things were going up here in NYC and that they would have never made this move. I responded by telling them that "sometimes God puts you in a place where you can do nothing but face your fears." Now that I think about it, what I thought was an end to the conversation was actually ministry to myself. And that’s what I’m doing — facing my fears and challenging myself each day. The opportunities in front of me are great, and the only way to take advantage of them all is to walk boldly into them. So here’s to all of you — all of us, rather — hoping you’ll face your fears with me, and do that thing that you’ve never imagined you could or would do. Being fearless is powerful. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind…." 2 Timothy 1:7

bell hooks on Zimmerman and the American ethos:
“White supremacy has taught him that all people of color are threats irrespective of their behavior. Capitalism has taught him that, at all costs, his property can and must be protected. Patriarchy has taught him that his masculinity has to be proved by the willingness to conquer fear through aggression; that it would be unmanly to ask questions before taking action. Mass media then brings us the news of this in a newspeak manner that sounds almost jocular and celebratory, as though no tragedy has happened, as though the sacrifice of a young life was necessary to uphold property values and white patriarchal honor. Viewers are encouraged feel sympathy for the white male home owner who made a mistake. The fact that this mistake led to the violent death of an innocent young man does not register; the narrative is worded in a manner that encourages viewers to identify with the one who made the mistake by doing what we are led to feel we might all do to ‘protect our property at all costs from any sense of perceived threat.’ This is what the worship of death looks like.” (via idealogics)

We’ve all had seasons when the challenges of life feel overwhelming. During those times, it’s easy to be tempted to talk about how bad things are. Maybe you received a bad medical report, or maybe you’re facing a financial obstacle. The more you talk about something, the bigger it becomes in your mind. Instead, you’ve got to dig your heels in and say, “No, I am not going to give life to that defeat. I am not going to speak sickness over myself. I’m not going to speak lack. I’m not going to speak fear. I’m choosing a different report. I believe the report of the Lord which says, ‘I can do all things through Christ. I can defeat this sickness. I can break this addiction. I can have peace in my home. I can see restoration in my relationships.’ ”
Remember, even if you don’t see how things could ever work out, God does. You’ve got to speak His Word over those mountains in your life and declare favor over those situations. Instead of talking to God about how big your problems are, talk to your problems about how big your God is! As you speak to your mountains, they will be moved, and you will walk forward into the victory God has prepared for you!

“Whether or not we realize it, each of us has within us the ability to set some kind of example for people. Knowing this, would you rather be the one known for being the one who encouraged others, or the one who inadvertently discouraged those around you?” ~Josh Hinds
