So Stranger Things is basically a terrible modern remake of the Stranger Things VHS edition made by Brenner because history was being rewritten by the victors.
It starts as a faithful adaptation (S1/S2), then loses the plot—the heart—halfway through by watering down sensitive 80s topics (S3), adds a bunch of new characters (S4), and censors the queer relationship because "gay people didn't exist back then" (S5).
this ai byler fic incident happening multiple times with incredibly popular byler fic feels like a lesson in trying to make a fic canon, a way of thinking that feels incredibly dismissive to fics that do not have that type of popularity in the fandom.
people read 'the big 3' and then think the fandom is dying. it's not!!! there are thousandssss of well written fics real people put their heart and soul and time and effort into, and this whole 'byler fic canon' and 'big 3' mindset is so silly. ESPECIALLY when incidents like this happen because now one of the big 3 fics is *allegedly* written by ai.
there’s nothing wrong with celebrating an author or enjoying a fic with other people. community is what keeps fandom alive! but we have to spread that enthusiasm, rather than concentrating it onto a select few works.
use the tag system. stop treating ao3 as an algorithm. give a chance to smaller fics and build community. fandom won't feel so dead when you do so!

I'm pretty neutral about the fan favourite transfem!Ralsei discourse, but I was kinda curious if chapter 5 either explore transfem!Ralsei further or adress it in some way.

Most of the time I'm not really fond of the idea of a certain fic being published—with the names changed and stuff. Sure, it's great for the author(s), I'm can be nothing but happy for them, but the thing is most of the fics we write doesn't work without the link to the original sourse.
And then we have ACSWY. It's probably the first time I want a non-original ao3 thing to be published. It almost feels independant. I mean. it's obviously not, but it can definetely work this way.
The camp is elaborate in a wordlbuilding kind of way. It's modern 'there wasn't any monsters' au, whitch makes ACSWY construst it's own byler history and even it's own byler dynamics through the work. It's nice to read with the Stranger Things context given but it's also super interesting on it's own. And the writing is great, and the structure... I'm in love!
And the most fasinating thing about ACSWY is that it's still feels like byler. I can't say that ACSWY is the most accurate fanon byler for what I have in my head but still this reading works, and it works pretty well, really. Better than a lot of canon-compliant things I've read if we speaking about OOC present.
"Don't like = don’t interact" rule is great and I always stick to it myself, but well, once in a while, it's nice to read critics for a certain apparently AI-written fic that I really hated especially since I didn't saw any critics of the fic in question before and kept quiet myself about it out of the fandom etiquette.
I'm not really a fan of Mike calling Will baby, just doesn’t feel right for them. Mike from acswy? Please, go for it, call him baby as much as you like, you've got this, dude, I'm rooting for you so much, you can't even imagine, acswy Mike Wheeler(!)

Most underrated Byler proof is that those two boys jump every time someone walks in on them alone like what are y’all doing that’s got you so jumpy?
