Her older sisters told her enough stories about pirates trying to capture mermaids and that if she was bad or wandered off, she would be captured as well. She knows, logically, that these were stories told to keep her from straying into dangerous waters and trusting humans who want to do her harm, but she still is still a little freaked out by the classic sort of the tricorn hat wearing, eyepatch and peg leg, parrot on the shoulder type of pirate.

Every so often, out of the minuscule pocket goodness in her heart that aims only to help others- Emilia takes on a little project. This one, however, had been bargained and traded for, no convincing required. Nadiyya was a pupil that already knew what she wanted, and knew where she’d need to get thrifty. Emilia could appreciate that, and was never one to refuse a challenge. Mers fascinated her in the same way that every other creature that walked Eden Ros did. Unknown, Hiding, and Hungry. Nadiyya had only opened the door.

And- how Emilia hates waste! With ample opportunity, Emilia can’t find a reason not to invite Nadiyya to East of Eden.

The Mer will come to see East of Eden in its most private state: the witch standing in the middle, no other customer in sight as she moves to greet her. “ Ugh, so good to see you, babe. ” A kiss to the youthful, glowing apple of each cheek. “ You look divine, Nadiyya. The Birth of Venus- but better, because you weren’t painted by a man. You know, the magic can only enhance what’s already there, right? ” Flattery is Emilia’s favorite charm, she’s always selling something, even if this time it doesn’t come with a price tag. There’s a rack of earthy tones, flowing fabric, and natural prints waiting for the both of them- fit for Emilia to play dress-up-doll in a willing victim. “ Anyways, I figured you owed me a visit … We’ve got catching up to do. How long has it been? ”

Emilia was one of the first people Nadiyya had met who had seen her for who she was and said that she could be absolutely gorgeous. One of the first people to say it enough that she’d believed it. Along with that, she’d done her a huge service, and now here she was, offering a makeover, an amazing chance at content for her page to promote the boutique? How could she not absolutely adore her?

“Too long, wayyy too long.” She beamed, hugging Emilia tightly before stepping back to do a little spin, showing off the outfit she’d picked for this. “I can’t believe you actually moved here! How have you been?”

Who: @crows-and-tomes When: Evening, Weekday, July Where: Talon & Tome

Nadiyya had set a goal: to keep herself on a schedule, one major video a week with intermittent story posts, but with the school year starting up again soon, she needed a backlog. Quickly. She could only make so many GRWM: Classes + Rehearsal Edition videos before people got sick of them, and she needed time to figure out her schedule to get more regular events in the mix for better content.

That meant it was time for a tried-and-true format, a little exploration vlog that hopefully turned up a hidden gem. She was looking to make this a series, and for that, she needed multiple installments. She’d already gotten in contact with a few local businesses, but today she was just wandering around, looking for somewhere to add to the list.

She really didn’t know how she ended up there. It looked like a little oddity shop, one of those dinky little places tourists loved to discover. Perfect. She took a few shots of the outside, some B Roll footage, before heading inside, taking a look around for what might look best on camera.

There were some neat little knicknacks here. A witch store, maybe? That could be fun. “Hellooo? Anyone here?”

Who: @dawnlings When: Midday, Weekend in July Where: Always Oasis

Nadiyya tried to get in some natural fresh water at least once a week, but she still needed water that actually mimicked what she needed, and that’s where the Always Oasis came in. The freshwater of Eden Ros was fine, of course, but even back in New Jersey it was a little too brisk for her, and she knew enough about the conditions she was born into to know that she was meant for warm, brackish waters. The kind of Dead Sea salt baths that humans went for to smooth out their skin was a little too far for her, but this was the kind of place that let her customize her salt-to-water ratio enough to keep her from shriveling up or suffocating or whatever else happens to mer who try to breathe in the wrong waters.

Right now, she was lounging in a mineral bath, tail completely submerged, occasionally allowing an olive-green scale to catch the light as she shifted to face Allie, who was currently reclined in the chair next to her, getting a manicure, to continue telling her about her latest attempt at something long-distance with a mer.

“...and then she didn’t text me back! I can’t believe it, who ghosts people in 2026??” A pause. A sigh. An eyeroll, visible after she plucked one of the cucumbers off of her eyes and took a bite of it. “Okay, fine, I do it all the time, but when I do it, it's, like... fun. Like, try a little harder, yknow? It's not an end.”

where & when: Ol' Pav, mid July who: open!

As soon as she heard the crunching of the pebbles of the pathway to the doors of Ol' Pav Vixey knew one of three situations was likely. One, her parents had scheduled a tour for an event and failed to tell Vixey, two, her parents had scheduled a tour for an event and straight up forgot about it, or three, someone was just dropping by.

A fourth possibility could've been a delivery they'd all forgotten about as well. And most of these scenarios involving someone forgetting didn't seem to bode well for the red head. She'd also only just come in from a swim a few minutes ago and hardly had time to securely stash her pelt. The thought of someone sneaking upon them while she was out in form made her uneasy.

But that was just her overthinking, as she did for most things nowadays. What happened to the old Vixey, who used to salivate at the thought of a little danger or a grand adventure? she thought. Was she turning into her parents as she aged? She hated that thought.

"If you're here for a tour of the venue I fear you're out of luck." As she spoke she rose from an oversized white lounger just off to the side of the stone structure, donning a red one piece swimsuit and tiny cream netted skirt cover-up. If she closed her eyes she could pretend she was on the Mediterranean but the slight chill in the air kept her grounded in Ireland.

"I also have to apologize as we're usually much more ready to show it but it's rather dusty and there are boxes everywhere as a few rooms are getting a little upgrade." Upgrade felt like a strange word to use as they were enhancing some of the more classical features of the building but explaining that felt a little too much like rambling and she had already started to do that without the clarification.

It was completely unprecedented for the dance program to do the yearly placement exams in a place that was not the school’s main dance hall, so getting the news that it was being hosted in Ol’ Pav of all places was absolutely crazy.

Of course she had to scout it out first. She was going for a higher placement than last year, had spent all summer practicing to make the best use of the space she knew, and walking into this unprepared could be catastrophic! She’d heard rumors that the family who ran it were mer, some Pelagi selkies, which helped settle her nerves a bit. In a city full of hunters, at a dance program in a hunter school that fed into the only local (and hunter-affiliated) dance company, she was really in need of other mer around to make her feel a little more like she was home.

“Aw, not even a little tour?” She asked, cocking her head at the lady who came to greet her. “I don’t need a guide or anything, I’m just trying to get a look at the space. I’m one of the dancers, with the USM ballet program?”

where - Harvest Gold

The music was vibrating the walls of her office and Fiadh tapped her fingers across her desk for a moment considering if it was worth pushing things off until later. There were always the wee hours of the morning to be serious. Her fingers stopped and she stared at her door for the briefest moment before deciding it was in fact worth it.

Flashing lights and a booming song welcomed her into the eternal party she had managed to curate for herself. She smiled at those who met her eyes as she made her way to the bar. Fiadh was hard to miss as the reflections of the disco ball never quite reached her as her own skin emit just enough of it's own light it was almost as she had her own spot light. To create that magic she had her lighting guys play with the levels so it wouldn't be brighter than her when the disco ball spun on it's own. It brought her joy to control reality where she could.

Joining someone at the bar who was just receiving their drink, Fiadh grabbed the attention of the bartender before they could pay and cut in, "put it on my tab with my usual." She turned to the other, "tell me, how's your night?"

It was a bright lights, disco ball kinda night, and Nadiyya knew Harvest Gold would always deliver. She was already in a great mood, having spent the last half hour or so pleasantly tipsy and dancing with whoever looked cool and gay enough to register as a person to her. This place was fun!

Eventually, she got tired enough to slow down, playing the game of “Nooo, don’t wait up for me, I’m gonna go get another drink!” with the woman she’d spent the past few songs with, and ended up back at the bar with a singular mission: Get whatever cocktail she could find that could match her dress under the disco lights, and get the best shot of it she could for her story before downing it and getting back on the dance floor. Building a brand was hard work.

Luckily, she wasn’t shy about yelling over the music or pushing through crowds to reach the bar. One French 75 (with a lime twist and a sugar rim, of course) later, she was holding out her phone to tap pay when someone she was so happy to see came by and paid for her anyways.

“Fiadh! Hi! I’m having so much fun, as always!” She didn’t know the owner of the club super well, but she knew it was always important to get in good with the right people. It came with perks, like invitations, her name on lists, and sometimes, free drinks. Besides, Fiadh was fun! She wasn’t one of the boring fae who liked to spend all their time in another realm, she was here. “You look so good, are you getting on the dance floor tonight?”
