runicinkâ:
LucĂa was entirely fine with her body, as Mak well knew, and while she wasnât angry that people would see her body, she was in fact a little angry as Mak had surmised, âOh, Iâm fucking livid. No one should show what I choose to show without my permission, even if Iâm open with my body. Itâs the theft more than anything but if I fly off the handle people will think itâs for the other reason so Iâm just going to quietly plot my revenge.â
There was a grin on Lucâs lips but a seriousness to that as well. No one really wanted to get on the bad side of LucĂaâs magic because, while she didnât often use it in the ways it could be, animation could very well be terrifying â and damaging! â if employed correctly. Couple that with learning the blessings which could enhance such a thing and, well, mores the pity.
Well, that and Luc would straight up punch someone if they crossed her and tended to have a mean right hook. One of her dadâs had been an aspiring boxer in his youth and had taught her a few things so she wasnât exactly going to shy away from beating someoneâs ass if they treated her (or those she loved) poorly.
Luc wasnât, however, prepared for the tidbit of information sheâd just gotten. She knew that Mak was one to get around in the best way possible, putting up champ numbers that would make some men blush, but she hadnât realized that sheâd been with a vampire (or that intensely) especially given who it was.
âThat is INTENSE. What the fuck? I donât know that Iâve seen her around but⌠good lord, Mak. Did you really like her? What the fuck leaked? Did she not want people to know for any particular reason?â The questions fell like a waterfall from Lucâs lips; time to get all the tea.
âGood. As long as the revenge plan is in motion,â Makena grinned and squeezed Lucia into a tight hug for good measure. She was glad that the other witch had such a streak about her. It was one of the other reasons they got along because plotting someone elseâs downfall always made for good conversation fodder.
âYeah, I do, I mean, I didâŚâ she sighed and gave her friend a sidelong look. âWe werenât dating or anything. Well, she thought we were. I thought we were just having fun.â That was the cliff notes version of it anyway.Â
âAnyway⌠There was a video of mine where I was at her place and she was doing her speedy vampire thing in the background. That coupled with that video of me with the corpse thatâs been making the rounds kinda put her in a tough spot. She was saying that people donât trust her because of the company she keepsâŚÂ Guilty by association, yâknow?â Makena huffed because she was said company and she had not even done anything to the corpse yet. The corpse she know had to return on her covenâs orders.
âI sometimes think this Golden Rule fucking sucks, yâknow? We wouldnât be in this mess if the humans knew about us.â
"I find that to be bullshirt," LucĂa offered, lifting her shoulders almost exasperatedly, "I mean I get being worried about what people will think and hiding your association with what you ARE because of like the covenant or whatever in the fuck we wanna call it but..."
She deflated. She probably wasn't helping at all and the arm around Mak gave a gently squeeze and tugged her in, "Nothing about associating with you gives me any feelings of guilt. You're a grown ass witch who makes her decisions as much as I do mine. If I do something you don't condone of you'll tell me and if it's not important to me especially I'm done with it but it would never make me like... shove you away? I just don't know why anyone else would."
Luc gave a pause, as if just remembering the first part of what Mak had said without the bias of someone acting like her friend was a dirty secret, "Ooh, Mak, babes, are you still not telling people that you don't really do commitment from the jump? I mean yeah it'll lead to a lot less hookups I'd imagine but also a lot less mess."
In regards to the golden rule, she gave a soft huff, "I agree, but we don't make those decisions unfortunately. The closest I get is tattooing humans that are allowed to know so that we can be freely us around them... but those are fewer and further between..."
Eduardo chuckled. âI know!â He agreed, chuckling. Considering the young wolf had never been in a serious enough relationship to even consider the things heâd already done with Esme so far, it was a big step and Luciaâs shock was justified. Heâd mostly spent his time chasing vampires, purely because he felt like they were the biggest leap away from his own kind as possible. Now though, things seemed to be changing and Eduardo couldnât imagine ever going back out to find some vampire girl in a blood bar.
âI mean, theyâre not so much kids. More like fully grown adults that are all much older than me. I mean one of them is literally like a hundred years older than me. So⌠thereâs that.â Eduardo confessed, but chuckled. He seemed nervous when he talked about it, but happy. âPretty sure they donât appreciate all the PDA.â
âYeah, they liked her. They were a little cautious⌠understandably. They havenât been around another wolf since we left the pack. Let alone an alpha.â That was twenty-five years ago. âBut they did really well and I think as far as first meetingâs go, Ma feels like she can trust her. I think sheâs also just happy Iâm not going to end up as a vampires permanent blood bag.â Eduardo chuckled.
There was a long pause with as much silence from LucĂa as Uardo had probably ever experienced... he'd mentioned that the kids were grown, which meant that there was the possibility that... "Babes, they aren't like... the same age as you, are they? that would be so fucking awkward!"
Knowing Luc she'd just stuck her foot in her mouth. The truth was she didn't have like a dossier on Esme and though she'd at least looked the woman up on socials she hadn't did a deep dive. Just a surface dive because she hadn't realized how serious she and Eduardo had become. She'd probably go a LITTLE deeper now but that's just to make sure her friend â her brother â is safe.
As if she could just move right along she bursts into a noise not unlike a balloon deflating coupled with a moose, "Uardo that's so good! That's like so fucking amazing for you and I have never been happier!"
See, she can 100% be fine with people and their relationships even though she thinks they're a soul sucking nightmare sent from the dark to make sure she never makes it past 30. As long as it wasn't her relationship she could tolerate it AND it had to involve her friends... everyone else... like whatever.
Daphne smiled as she listened, watching Lucia work the slivers of gold between the blue birds feathers and brighten its main body of colour until the powder blue stood prominently against Daphneâs snowy skin. When it came to the supernatural community, you could never be sure how old the person was in front of you, but it seemed from Luciaâs words that she really was as young as she looked. It didnât phase Daphne that she way young in years, she had known many young minds in her time, whoâs talent and strength far superseded their elders. âHow did you know this was what you wanted to do?â Daphne asked curiously. âDid you go to art school?â She asked, although often she had found the best treasures were people that were hidden away. âI used to dabble in a little art, a long time ago. Though mine were mainly oil paintings.â She gave a faint laugh, almost shy, knowing it showed her age.
âI think if the talent is there, it doesnât matter how young you are.â Daphne told her warmly, âBeing young gives you an imagination that others may not have.â The vampiress smiled, âAnd youâre obviously doing well for yourself here.â Daphne lifted her eyes to take in the tattoo parlour again, her light blue gaze skimming the lit candles and the decorated walls.
LucĂa never stopped working â the needle being shifted, cleaned, dipped, and skin wiped every now and again with the practiced ease of a master â and her head bobbing along to the music coming softly through the speakers hidden around her little shop, "I found I had a talent for it early. I was drawing at a young age and things just slid into place!" quite literally in some cases, the drawings coming to life and moving around to their place, "I mean... I practiced a lot after that because I love doing it but I don't have any formal training, no. I feel like it might mess with the way my brain works when creating art, you know? Learn classic techniques and lose what makes me... me?"
There was a nod of her head, so assured was she in that explanation that she guessed it would brook no contrary retort. Part of that could be that Daphne was charming and polite to an almost nth degree and it was refreshing to be able to talk to someone and not expect sassback. Yeah, she could do that with her girls but at the same time they sassed each other all the time, it was just DIFFERENT when they did it. It was beloved and definitely allowed.
"I do okay business. It doesn't help that I tend to not charge my best friends any time they even want a consultation â even if no work gets done! â and I get a steady income from more dedicated work," like putting the symbol on initiated humans, "but like... even if I weren't, I'd make it work. My dads are pretty well off and they make sure that my rent is taken care of if I can't... I try to do it all on my own! But I mean if I'm struggling at some point I'm going to accept their help, it'd be real stupid not to."
She blew an errant strand of hair out of her face, running her thumb gently across a mark she'd made and allowing her attention to drift for a moment with Daphne's, "I designed it kind of how I designed my place because I spent more time here than anyone... I don't know if that's the RIGHT move but it's the one I made..."
Her eyes darted down to the tattoo, noticing movement out of the corner of her eye and suddenly unaware of if they had cleared the animating tattoo idea... she had, right? She had really cleared this, there was no way she'd just...
"It's looking good so far."

"It is, isn't it?" Viv commented as her eyes trailed toward the couple in question. She tilted her head a bit, and an amused smirk played on her lips as the couple was clearly no stranger to PDA. And to think that once upon a time that was her. Disgustingly in love with her fiancĂŠ, counting down the days until they could start their family. Now Vivian found herself sitting in this bar to drown out her sorrows, at least she wasn't alone anymore. "Glad to know I'm not the only one starting to get queasy having to watch that," she teased, "I swear if those two don't come up for air soon i'll have to go over there and start CPR.
"Or we let them suffocate on their love and learn a lesson? That sounds really dark but uh... sometimes that's what it takes to open one's eyes to the perils of giving your heart out like an idiot." LucĂa sounded like a teenager for a brief moment, but there was conviction in that and the underlying feeling that, perhaps, she'd had some person experience that had informed the response. Heartbreak is no joke.
"I think the most PDA that should be allowed is hand holding and that's ONLY if you're like... super together. Not this fling shit. Not this 'oh my god we've been together three months and are absolutely in love and going to get married' shit but like... have witnessed your partner throwing up or have heard them in the bathroom clearly while doing their business. The real hurdles... the things that mess people up when it's just infatuation." And she was on a tear. Poor Viv, having to deal with a bubbly pessimist when it came to love.

"You know I'm always down for pizza. Probably prefer it this way," Makena grinned and threw an arm around Lucia's shoulder to draw her in for a hug. As much as Makena enjoyed going out most days, staying in with her best friend on a day like this was definitely going to be a better way to spend time together.
"I mean I'm sure you'd have zero problem getting an ACTUAL date but for some of us hopelessly and forever single," by choice, her brain chimes in, "it's nice to forget about all the people with their PDA and weird poems passing around cards and candy like it means a fucking thing..."
She trailed off, realizing that shitting on a day she could easily use to just love on her friends sounded ridiculous, "Should we call Pers? Get her involved? We can all smash the day if she isn't uhhh... you know, occupied with the guy with the face and the hair."

âYou ready to hit the stores once all the leftover candy gets discounted?â (from Makena)
"Babe, of course, we will be drowning in strangely shaped chocolate and chalky candy hearts for years. Sometimes you just gotta eat bad candy to have something to do with your mouth, you know? Can't waste the good stuff when you're sitting there writing a bunch of ideas down and mindlessly eating..." LucĂa was, as she ever was, verbose in her way of speaking, but she slung an arm around her bestie and squeezed in towards her, "Viva la candy resistance!"
âYou ready to hit the stores once all the leftover candy gets discounted?â
"Yep! It'll be you, me, and Mak raiding the sad little discount bin that they throw all the unwanted candy in. Like an island of misfit toys but for faux displays of affection from your significant other on a day named after a fucking bloodbath." LucĂa's smile was surprisingly bright in that moment. She, Pers, and Mak were fucking unstoppable and she knew that, even though either of them were always in some state of entanglement with some person or another, they both respected and appreciated her 'fuck romance' stance that had taken over her life.
Maybe someday that would change? But she had her girls, who the fuck needs anything else.
"Speaaaaking of sweethearts... how's Eliiiijaaaaah?" the words were sing-songy and childish but she seemed genuinely pleased to be able to hassle Persy about it finally.
âLook at all those happy couples, fawning over each other. Disgusting.â (from kass)
"Right?" LucĂa's nose wrinkled as she stared at all the doting couples, arms around one another and being effusive in their PDA, "I mean good for them but also ugh."
Luc didn't deny anyone their chance at happiness, regardless of whether she believed in the idea of a happy ending, but she still felt a tiny bit queasy every time she saw the dreaded one-dessert-two-spoons set-up as she walked by windows. Her attention drifted up to Kass for a moment, "I didn't realize you disliked it as much as me. We're set for life to be bitter old crones â well, you're not a crone but... they don't really have terminology for male versions because the world is a sexist bitch."
Nothing can stop us and if they try they'll learn real fast. Bet.

runicinkâ:
LucĂa was, thankfully, blessed by doting fathers with fabulously successful business prowess in both the public and private eye to fund their daughterâs rent, if nothing else. Luc makes enough money through basic tattooing and her general âobligationâ to do the tattooing of new humans who learn about their world that she could literally never charge any of her friends and still be fine, but she understood the want to support, âSays the woman offering me every familiar at her disposal at any time if something goes wrong with Nyx â goddess protect him â and letâs me just do as I please in her space. The road goes both ways, babes⌠we are what we are, and you are one of my best friends so that comes with some perks.â
A single heartbeat pause, before she adds, âEven if you ripped out my heart with a rusty spoon and then reanimated me for a necromancy test, I would likely still allow you.â she snorts, only half-kidding, âThis is why itâs hard for me to let people close. When we get close Iâm in it to win it or whatever the kids say.â
As if Luc were somehow an elder ignorant in the ways of youthâŚ
The expression on Makâs face as she broached the subject of the data leak said enough. It wasnât a good space for her to be in and so when she shifted the conversation â even though every part of her screamed to continue pushing and help her friend â she allowed the subject to change back to her. Sometimes not helping was the best way to help.
âA lot of nudes. There are probably some videos of us doing some less than normal shit in a club but Iâm almost positive there are no oneâs faces but mine. Iâm also pretty careful about not having shots of the same night Iâm filming in case people start matching outfits but likeâŚâ She shrugs a bit, not yet realizing that her texts had been mined and that, even though sheâd hidden them in several different folders and even deleted files go into a hidden archive, the nature of her past relationship would soon see the light of day.
âMostly stuff I can explain away if it comes to it. The animated tattoos will be visual fx work or something like that. Iâll figure it out.â She lifts her head a moment to reach for her phone, queueing up some music because any kind of silence for even a span of seconds will drive Luc insane.
âSo, I feel like we havenât broached this subject in a while⌠are you dating anyone new? I mean I know dating isnât either of ours forte but in this case dating can mean straight smashing.â
âReally? Iâm gonna hold your corpse to that,â Makena chuckled darkly. She was a budding necromancer, she was allowed. And if Lucia was offeringâŚÂ âThank you though. For letting me close. The feelingâs mutual,â she ended off with a warm smile.
âYeah? Shit⌠At least there are options for you to explain that shit away, huhâŚâ Lucia was smart that way. Makena was learning now that perhaps documenting everything was not the best idea, but how was she going to learn otherwise â especially when it came to experimenting with magic? âYou sure youâre okay with your nudes being leaked?â Makena knew Lucia to be very open with herself and her bodily autonomy, but that would still constitute to a very intimate violation.
âIâve gotten so many other people in trouble⌠One of which is⌠was a vampire I was straight smashing for awhile. Not anymore thoughâŚâ Daphne had been one of the few people who had come storming into Makenaâs space recently to yell at her about the leaks and was probably one of Makenaâs more recent ex-partners that she could not quite get out of her mind. âDo you know the one in the Sisterâs of the Night clan? Daphne. Sheâs blonde, gorgeous and kinda looks like a Barbie doll, but with fangs.â
LucĂa was entirely fine with her body, as Mak well knew, and while she wasn't angry that people would see her body, she was in fact a little angry as Mak had surmised, "Oh, I'm fucking livid. No one should show what I choose to show without my permission, even if I'm open with my body. There was a grin on Luc's lips but a seriousness to that as well. runicinkâ:
Thankfully for LucĂa bruised fruit wasnât a deal breaker. She often bought the uglier fruit that would get thrown out otherwise because it all tasted the same, mostly. Hell, some fruits taste better when a little beat up if you eat them right away because the sugars got more activated and concentrated in that moment. So, she bites into the apple before holding it in the same way as before, swallowing and using it to point to where the kids had run off, âI got the feeling it was more of a prank than a need for them, but maybe my juju is very off today, I donât know.â
A smile broke across her face, gentle and slight but nonetheless present, and she tips her head to one side, sending her curls bounding over one shoulder, âIâm LucĂa, by the way. But you can call me Luc⌠or really anything that is a shorter form of my name. Like.. I donât know, no one has ever called me CĂa but Iâd probably allow it.â
She talks too much and says nothing, but it is the way she is and sheâs fine with herself so other people can get used to it too, âIs Luis the ââ she pauses as the Luis comes over in tow and Kass explains it to her without her having to ask, âI should come by here more often⌠if only for free apples.â
There was mischief in her voice.
-
Kass wasnât going to pretend like he knew what the kids intentions were but they were kids all the same. âYouâre probably right, Iâm not great at reading people,â he admitted. It was one of his many pitfalls but social connections was definitely up there for the witch. âIt doesnât matter too much, the only victim were some apples. I mean, if I was going to steal anything, Iâd go the strawberries,â he said, absently pointing towards where the punnets sat in the store. Â
âCia is probably better than Uci,â he replied, knowing he probably shouldnât push the name thing with a person he just met. âIâm Kassandros but Kass is fine.â Tilting his head, he gave the woman a look over with furrowed brows. âAre you friends with Makena?â he asked. Something told him he had heard her name before in passing from the other witch.Â
The shopkeeper still looked outraged, cursing to himself in Spanish as he approached the pair. Something told him he would have to calm him down from reporting it to the cops but for now, he seemed happy to be distracted by the beautiful woman instead. âRight, yes. Luis, this is our new friend Lucia, she can have some fruit and veggies on me the next time she comes through, alright?â Luckily the man didnât seem angry about that, instead he was agreeing. âIâd be happy to provide anything you need, Lucia,â Luis replied, much to Kassâs disgust. Straight flirting was always gross to him. âAlright, buddy. I think you have some customers,â he said, trying to distract him quickly.Â
LucĂa wouldn't admit it, but her intrusive thoughts were sometimes out of control. Especially when it came to things like tripping children. It wasn't that she wanted to hurt anyone, just that for some reason her brain misfired in that moment of watching kids run and wanting to jut a foot out. She felt like kids got away with too much sometimes, but realize the idiocy of that thought. They were learning boundaries, and while people needs to actually set those with their children more, no child should be punished for TESTING them.
"Yeah, honestly, Uci makes me sound kind of like something you get diagnosed with after a bad date. Just like: yeah, he was nice but then the next morning I found out he gave me Uci." She grimaced, making a face between disgust, anger, and confusion, "But whatever you want will REALLY be fine."
Mak's name coming up generally gave Luc a little thrill. She wouldn't let anyone know but she likely had a bordering crush on Mak. Best friend and someone she thought was beautiful enough to take a tumble with... but she wasn't likely to go that far, for fear of ruining something else, "Yeah, Mak's one of my best friends, like... a VERY select group."
There was a grin on Luc's face that was unnecessary, as if being her best friend were some exclusive club you had to make reservations at weeks in advance and NOT just something that is small because of her own intimacy problems.
Being flirted with by an older man, especially so brazenly, was not new territory to LucĂa and, sometimes, her reaction was to immediately deck them in the face... but Kass knew him and it was Kass' shop and new friendships didn't go well when you start assaulting someone's employees. So instead she offered a good-natured smile and a wrinkle of her nose to let him know that she would NOT be partaking, "Yeah no, it'll probably just be fruits and veggies that I need, not anything else..." then, to Kass, a more genial smile, "Thanks for the free nutrients, I promise I won't take advantage and... Kassandros is a glorious name. In my head I'll probably call you Andro because it sounds powerful, but Kass is a great nickname so I'll use it too."
Too perky, this one.
Eduardo turned his head up towards where his friend was sat on the arm of the chair beside him. âHave I ever told you that being friends with you is like having the worlds most annoying psychiatrist?â He chuckled, teasing her, taking her close proximity as a chance to prod her playfully in the ribs. Eduardo knew Lucia would know he was only teasing, it was part of how their friendship worked, and behind it all she would always know how much she meant to him.
âSorry, I havenât been the best at catching up lately.â Eduardo realised, though his guilt didnât stop him from making a beeline for Luciaâs coffee abandoned on the table to take a sip. âItâs good, really good,â Eduardo said again, unsure of exactly where to start. Lucia knew heâd been dating a wolf for the first time in his life and why that was a big deal, but she didnât know a huge amount else, which was a kick to Eduardoâs conscience considering how long he and Esme had been together. âIâve met her pack⌠her kids.â They werenât really kids, they were all fully grown adults who all happened to be older than Eduardo himself and wondering why their mother was dating the very young, lone wolf, for good reason. âI took her to meet Hannah and Mam a few months ago.â He added, knowing Lucia would also know why it was a big deal for Eduardo to trust Esme with meeting his mother and sister.
LucĂa usually has so much frenetic energy that it's palpable. Her entire being vibrates in a way that feels like trying to watch three different TVs full of static and somehow know which one had the glitch in its flow. It was just who she was.
With Eduardo â and the seriousness of the subject â sometimes that pace slowed. The brother she'd never had and the friend she'd always wanted; she felt like being around him eased her distrust of men and some of the heartache that still resonated in her heart.
Though she squirmed and laughed as she was prodded, made a sour face jokingly as he sipped her coffee, and eventually draped her arm across the headrest behind him and got herself comfortable right there on the arm of his chair, there was nothing about their posture that spoke of anything but a familial type bond. No one could confused them for flirting or anything else, it was just too weird and somehow felt wrong.
"That's kind of huge, babes. Like... HUGE huge. I didn't realize it had gotten that serious." Luc bit the edge of her lower lip and watched his face for a moment; she might be terrified of commitment for her own reasons (as Uardo had his too) but she was always excited for the prospect of others getting their happily ever after. She never wanted to taint that excitement in them with her own sour past... besides most of them didn't even know about it (yet, damn hackers). Eduardo knew some.
"First of all. Kids. Wow. Look at you all adult meeting your girlfriend's kids and being all proper and whatnot. And did you ma' and sister like her? That's a huge indicator for me if things are on the up and up. They have good intuition usually." LucĂa, bohemian mess that she is, was always big on things like intuition; hers was usually right.
