Everybody told me Andre Agassi's Open is one of the best memoirs they've ever read.
Nobody told me it would make me want to read Andre Agassi/Pete Sampras RPF.
It’s only taken me almost 47 years, but I’ve finally realized that one thing making me anxious is something I can sort of deal with, but two or more really is the anxiety that really puts me in fight or flight.
At a new salon for the first time because it’s been seven years in this city and I can’t seem to find a stylist who 1) understands my hair and 2) uses the brand of dye I prefer and 3) does not play annoying cat and dog videos on a big screen TV the entire time. But this woman uses my brands and has a kid the same age as mine and her music is a playlist that can best be described as “Lilith Fair 1998,” so things look promising.
As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".
So may I present my own casting choice for Odysseus:
Excuse me???
you are right and you should say it.
Is this the face of a man who would put his own infant in front of a plow to avoid going to war?
Absolutely not
You know who would try that shit?
Is this the face of a man who would defy the very gods to get home to his wife?
You know who would defy the gods just to show he could get away with it?
The last thing Penelope's suitors ever see:
Is there anything more beautiful than a cart of brand new books?
I just realized that many many people have jobs
Rb with your job, wtf do you people do while offline???
Are you confident you are the only person alive with your full name?

Granola recipe
I posted this recipe to Livejournal a million years ago, and luckily I gave it a very distinctive title so I can still google it now to find it. However, I'm guessing either the baking community or LJ itself won't be around forever, so I'm copying it here as a backup (yes, I've also sent it to the wayback machine):
Ingredients (all amounts are approximate):
4 cups old-fashioned oats
1 cup chopped or sliced nuts (almonds in this batch, I've also tried cashews)
1/2 cup ground flax seed
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp (or more) cinnamon
Other spices to taste - I often throw in ginger and nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp honey
1/2-1 tsp vanilla
1-2 cups dried fruit, chopped if needed (dried cranberries and apples shown here)
1. Preheat oven to 375. In a big bowl, mix the oatmeal, nuts, flax seed, brown sugar, spices, and salt.
2. In a small pot, heat the olive oil, honey, and vanilla until warm and easily pourable.
3. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry and mix until the dry ingredients are well-moistened all over.
4. Spread mixture evenly in a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet.
5. Bake for 12 minutes, stirring after 5 min. Watch closely after 10 min in case your oven is a bit different from mine b/c the edges can burn easily - you'll smell the burning before you can see it. It should be a nice golden brown all over when done. If you don't want to risk burning, it can be baked at a lower temp for longer, I just like getting it done quickly
6. Let cool in the pan until it hardens. Break up back into the bowl, add in dried fruit, mix it up, and pour into a gallon ziplock for storage.
Notes: If you like your granola clumpy like I do, they keys are the honey and letting it cool in the pan. If you want to cut down on sweetness but not clumpiness, cut down the brown sugar, NOT the honey. And if you don't want your granola clumpy, only let it cool a couple minutes before pouring it back into the bowl and mixing in the fruit.
Also, note that the oils in flax seed can go rancid when not refrigerated, and cooking them can speed up this process a little. This size batch lasts me 1-1.5 weeks and I have never had a problem with this, but if you want to make big batches that last longer than that you may want to cut out the flax and instead sprinkle a tablespoon on each bowlful of granola before you eat it.
Can't believe this didn't happen on Tumblr. We're slipping, people. Thread under the cut. Source attached to post.
There are gonna be people who won't like hearing this but if you want to live in a world where mixed marriages, families, and adoptions (particularly POC adopting outside their "race") aren't maligned and discriminated against, then you have got to get more chill about seeing someone partaking in something cultural that you don't think fits the "race" you perceive them as.
It's a vague memory now, it was a vague memory even at the time I made this post, but I think what sparked this was remembering stupid comments I saw about a Chinese-American cookbook that were complaining about it being written by a white woman and then I looked the white woman up and the briefest research showed she was adopted as a child into a Chinese-American family and just....
*pinches nose*
Fellas, is it cultural appropriation to inherit your family's culture but you don't pass the blood quantum test?
All of you are literally just racist. You've come full-circle. You're working under the belief that people are supposed to "keep to their own kind" and that means the socially invented concept of "race", and "race mixing" of any sort is unnatural.
What discussing Cultural Appropriation was supposed to be about: why does Cheryl get to wear Dreads to work but Tyrone doesn’t?
What it became: Segregation 2 electric boogaloo
The problem with not having many local friends is that I never have somebody to give an unbiased opinion while shopping.

hokay so i was curious as a point of contrast to the Guardian list how well tumblr would do on a best 100 SFF novels list. so i went looking for one and google directed me to NPR's top 100 novels list and i'm like aight i'll just use that one keep it simple. but as i scrolled down the list i was like wait there's been no Octavia Butler at all?? which i honestly found quite offensive but i was deep into adding books to my list challenge by that point.
also the version of the list i was looking at only had 97 entries on it; i am unsure if that's a counting error bcos some of the entries are series or if it's just missing 3 items off the NPR list but i opted to rectify both issues by adding 3 Octavia Butler books on the end.
so here is my list challenge of the 97 book long NPR top 100 list but I added Octavia Butler:
NPR top 100 books except there were only 97 on the list so I added 3 Octavia Butler's on the end. why in the world the original list had...

Do/did you personally know 3 or more sets of twins?
(You don't really have to be friends with them now, just at any point in your life, did you know them/interact with them in some capacity. They don't have to be identical. Idk if we want to count triplets/quadruplets/etc. in here, ig we can. Lol sorry).

I was really dreading today. Tuesdays are, in generally, my toughest day because I have eight K and first grade classes and only a 25-minute lunch break. (I have eight class on Fridays too, but the spacing is such that I have 90 minutes after the 4th grade lunch I supervise so I have plenty of time to eat and get work done. Also, I’m not reading out loud all day long.)
So I got to work and steeled myself for the first grade onslaught after a dream of a K class and then I looked out the window and … all the first graders were getting ready for their field trip!
So I went back to my other building to work and my Demco order had arrived so I got to start putting genre labels on the books. What a great Tuesday.
Quick question. When someone asks what age you were in a certain year do you give the age that you were before or after your birthday that year?
Do you give the younger or older of the two ages you were that year?
I give the younger (age before your birthday in a given calendar year)
I give the older (age after your birthday in a given calendar year)
