SHADOW AND BONE (2021)
Laurie looked at her as she had looked at him, with a natural curiosity to see what changes time and absence had wrought. — Little Women (1868)
Good photography is not about ‘Zone Printing’ or any other Ansel Adams nonsense. It’s just about seeing. You either see, or you don’t see. The rest is academic. Photography is simply a function of noticing things. Nothing more.
Elliott Erwitt (via pointandshooter)
"Breathe looks like a thin, cropped tank top with mesh panels to keep the user cool. While it's normally tight fighting, Breathe contains a smart alloy material called Nitone that, when electrified, loosens the garment. It's battery operated and can be adjusted with a remote controller, so the user can discreetly change how tight the binding is -- there's no need to change their clothing or go into a private space in order to take a break. There's also an optional feature that will automatically loosen the device when the user is playing a sport."
A UK design student hopes this wearable will make chest binding safer, easier and more comfortable for transgender and non-binary people.
His name is Miles Kilburn ✌🏽
it’s all “accidental hand touch” this and “brief longing gaze” that, where’s my support at for “reaching up and fixing someone’s collar for them” crew??
the intimacy disguised as helpfulness! the lingering contact! the optional subdued “you look nice” as they stand too close!!

the breeze is biting and brutal as you swiftly move across campus to your greek literature class but all your mind can focus on is the blood beneath your blackened coat and the way your surroundings suddenly sound painstakingly deliberate
from where you lie the shadows her gestures make are distorted yet you can’t help but smile once the familiar sounds of bicycles clattering against the driveway come across your ears
the shimmering light reflects off of their cheeks as you throw your head back with slight laughter at how, frankly embarrassing, both your dancing is but you can’t find it in yourself to care
you’re stood on the border of town with one hand on your backpack and the other laced with theirs as the two of your stare out at the sunrise, a sunrise that looms over the town you’ve decided to turn your back on
the love of your life whisks you into the arms for a slow dance which, despite the overall cheesiness, makes your cheeks sore with how much you’re smiling as they lead you through the kitchen and out towards the flower garden
you’re a dumb british teenager, the world is unfair, and all you want to do is sit by the pier and smoke until your lips turn numb and the band dies down
it’s new years eve in ‘87 and you’ve escaped the chaos downstairs in place of laying on the roof with them, some stolen cassettes, and a knack for spotting constellations
the italian sun caresses your skin and it burns but the grass is soft and their head is resting upon your shoulder so you don’t mind too much
Whether you realize it or not, your brain believes in something called the “Just-World Hypothesis”, and it’s a big part of the reason that we’re all so horrible to each other. On the surface, you know that the world isn’t fair. You might say those exact words out loud to yourself every day. But deep down, somewhere in the back of your mind, your brain secretly believes that we do live in a fair and just world, where everyone gets exactly what they deserve. Our brains can’t handle chaos. We had to evolve believing that our actions always had rational consequences - if you go out and hunt for food, you get to live. If you don’t hunt, you die. That’s what gets us out of bed in the morning, and lets us muster up the motivation to chase after our goals. We can’t really handle the idea that terrible things can happen to us at any time, for absolutely no reason. So our brains pretend that’s not true.
And we pretend that we have total control over our lives when we don’t.
When something bad happens, we need to know the reason why it happened. We need to know that there was a way to prevent it, and if there isn’t one, our brains will make something up. He got cancer because he didn’t eat well enough. She got assaulted because she wore a short skirt. He lost his job because he didn’t work hard enough. We can’t accept that cancer just happens. We can’t accept that assaults can happen to anyone. We can’t accept that our lives are at the whims of large economic forces beyond our control. Finding reasons to blame others for their own misfortunes lets us pretend that misfortunes can always be avoided. It lets us pretend that if we just eat our vegetables, wear long dresses and stay a little late at work every day, nothing bad will ever happen to us. This is still true, by the way, after something does happen to us, even if it was truly outside our control. No matter how clearly “not our fault” it was, we will still look for ways to blame ourselves for what happened. That’s how strong this instinct is. This is why victims of abuse and assault will bend over backwards to blame themselves, even if they were toddlers at the time of the incident. Because at the end of the day, it’s still much, much less terrifying to believe that “I fucked up” than it is to accept that “I live in an indifferent universe where bad and good things happen to undeserving people, and there’s nothing I can do about it”. We’re willing to throw ourselves under the bus if it means that we can hang on to that comforting illusion. The problem is, that comforting illusion has real-life consequences for a whole lot of people. The just-world hypothesis is the reason that wealthy people struggle to feel any empathy for the poor. They don’t want to accept that being rich or poor is largely due to luck and circumstance - it would be hard to live with the guilt that comes with having so much more than other people. Instead, they have to believe that everyone “earns” their lot in life, and that everyone has a fair chance to succeed. They have to believe that the poor are lazy, or stupid, or incompetent, because the alternative is unthinkable. It’s the same reason people struggle to find empathy for criminals, or abuse survivors, or the mentally ill. We need to believe that those people somehow “deserve” their misfortune - otherwise, we would have to accept that we are no better than they are, and that at any time, we could end up just like them. Believing in the Just-Wold Hypothesis isn’t your fault. It’s always going to be lurking somewhere in your mind, pushing you to blame others and whispering unkind thoughts into your ear. You can’t get rid of it. But you don’t have to listen to it. We’re lucky enough to be able to think and rationalize, and once you know why you have these unkind thoughts, you can ignore them and choose empathy instead.
holy shit-
If 2 million people are gonna storm area 51 we should be able to organize like this against our gov’t as well
you know you don't need an author's permission to find symbolism in their work, right? literary analysis (or any form of media analysis, really) isn't a game where you have to be "correct" about determining the author's "true intended meaning." you can just create your own meaning with supporting evidence and that's perfectly fine, even encouraged! a truly good work can beget an almost infinite number of interpretations, some better than others, but very few are "wrong" unless you're being obtuse on purpose

GUYS SALAZAR SLYTHERIN IS. . .
SO MY FRIEND AND I WERE LOOKING UP SURNAMES IN THE US AND WE FOUND THE MOST INTERESTING THING. SALAZAR IS APPARENTLY A JEWISH NAME. SALAZAR S. IS SLYTHERIN
I had one of my male friends mention something to me today I hadn’t realized...
We were in first period talking, and they’re being stupid teenage boys and talking about my sexuality. I’ve never had a bf they’ve met, and me being one of the tallest in my friend groups I’ll often just randomly be seen with on of my female friends on my back. So to them it’s like “haha yea your gay” and I’m talking to them about it and on elf them say something something I didn’t realize I did he said “but every time you have a guy close you, you flinch or start to move away” . I had no idea others saw I did this, and I’m kind of stunned and quiet. They’ve all seen me flinch when someone goes to give me a high five and I see only the shadow. That to me looks like someone’s going to hit me.
Now I play very ruff and tumble with these boys. They throw shotput and discus with me, they wrestle and play football. And I fight back if they ever hit or tease me even if it’s playful. So I’m used to it, but I’m also very jumpy, teachers will come up behind me And say something and I’ll jump a foot upwards. I hadn’t even realized that I tended to shy away when guys got close to me or at least get tense, but apparently these guys had, and that shocked me.

But in the time since I watched it I have not been on tumblr, and now I’m confused. If there is a willing Voltron fan out there who is willing to explain to me what THE HECK has been going on- Lekira,Season 8,KLANCE- you would be greatly appreciated
ok people listen up: THE HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 COMMERCIAL HAD ME IN NEAR TEARS
I was incredibly young at the time the first movie came out (March 26 2010) and one of my most potent memories is going to see that in theatres and then at the very end of it A) pretty much crying and B) i was on the edge of my seat. I was absolutely tiny at that age and i loved that movie to the depths of my soul. I still do. So for Movie Number 3 to come out a good almost 10 years later has me elated. And also for everyone with the significant others this movie iS A GREAT DATE IDEA
