#This scene kills me every time#I really feel like this is a key turning point for AOS Jim#he’s never had anyone treat him with as much trust respect and warmth as Spock Prime does#sure he’s had Pike but Pike is hard on Jim - callous and stern for most of the time#and sure he’s had Bones but Bones is sharp with Jim - irritable and judgmental in a way that Jim likes but that’s still rough#but along comes Spock Prime#the strange shadow of the Spock who just ejected Jim from the ship#of the Spock who had been attempting to expel Jim from the academy#of the Spock who Jim believe hates him with every fiber of his logical Vulcan being#along comes Spock Prime who greets Jim with awe and excitement - with dignity and trust#he comes to Jim with easy open terms of endearment and the unwavering desire to share minds#Jim has a father figure and Jim has a rough-and-tumble roommate#but Jim has never had anyone *trust* him as *unconditionally* and *resolutely* as Spock Prime does#and I think Jim doesn’t quite understand why he deserves that trust at first - you can see it in his eyes in the last gif#he’s waiting for the punchline#he’s waiting for the lecture#but it doesn’t come and he doesn’t quite understand#and he’s frightened of that trust but he also suddenly realizes that he’s been looking for it all his life#Up until now his ‘confidence’ has been little more than bravado - he’s just trying to prove he ‘can be a Kirk in this house’#And I think he finally starts to actually believe in himself just the tiniest bit starting here#woops#sorry#meta in the tags#Jim Kirk (via anifanatical)
