Seeing @worm-strung-string @mistycatt and @kogoeru boldly posting their drawings of Obi-Wan, regardless of level of detail or effort, inspired me to give it a go when I got bored at work!
Okay, this may be a controversial opinion, but having heard some rumors about it, I’d like to include my piece.
One of my favorite Star Wars characters is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I grew up with the prequels and watching the show was probably the best part of 2022. I love having more good content with him. Having said that, I hope that Disney doesn’t make a second season.
The writers did a phenomenal job in showing Obi-Wan struggling to pull himself together after Revenge of the Sith and set him on the path to becoming who we remember in A New Hope. They showed him dealing with his own guilt and grief, with Leia acting as the kick in the pants he needed to get out of his depressive spiral, and gave him some slight closure with Vader/Anakin. They hit all of the major points that were needed for his character growth, and I fear that if they create another season, it’ll be subpar and go against his entire character.
The difficult thing with adding more is that we know where he is supposed to end up: on Tatooine. His purpose is to protect Luke and prepare himself as much as possible so he can guide Luke later in life. Having him go on any other adventure or story would contradict that character trait. It CAN be done, as shown by the first season, but any more would require GOOD writing and I don’t know if Disney is up for that.
TLDR, I’m afraid Disney would mess up a good thing by making a second season of Kenobi.
I saw The Mandalorian and Grogu tonight, and I gotta say, I’m feeling very mixed about it right now.
Best parts for me? Music and the creatures brought to life with animation. Also, everything Grogu did. There were decent fight sequences and the irony of Din Djarin saying that fighting is a last resort. (How very Jedi of you.) Like, dude? You just completely wrecked the shit of everyone in the room and practically leave collateral damage in your wake.
Parts I didn’t like? The writing and pacing. It felt like a season 4 shoved into a two-hour block. It went from action scene to action scene with little transition, and if that’s more your style, then you would probably enjoy it, but it felt rushed in a bad way to me. The writing overall also felt lacking. Only two characters were introduced well (Rotta and Embo), in my opinion, and the rest sort of floundered. (I’m pretty sure we’re only given the names of three characters during the movie, one of which we already knew. I can’t think of a better example of my point on the story/writing quality.)
They did Grogu’s relationship with Din Djarin so dirty in the opening credits though. That’s not his apprentice, that’s his SON!
I was looking for something to watch and gave a new anime for me a try and was instantly hooked. Kaiju No. 8 was very fun and I ended up binging the two seasons they do have.
It bounced between lighthearted humor and badass monster fights, all surrounding some themes that spoke to me on a personal level. (The internal struggle of not succeeding in life the way you wanted and worked so hard for, and eventually coming to terms with that struck me.)
I loved the art style. There was so much expression in Kafka’s Kaiju face. The silly faces cracked me up.
It all reminded me of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in some ways, with how it balanced serious with funny.
I’m looking forward to whenever season 3 comes out.
Having since graduated from college, I’ve moved apartments, started at my new job, and a lot of other adulting things.
I’ve been screaming internally for the better part of two weeks.
Why do they make being a responsible adult so complicated????
I need to wait a bit before I can buy the furniture for my apartment. I’ve been sleeping on an air mattress for the past four days. My feet hang off the end and air conditioning is currently not working.
Okay, seriously, what is it with this more recent trend in manga of male mentor figures with white hair and at least one eye covered?
(In this case I’d have three, but changing the meme format would have been too much work.)
We have the OG, Hatake Kakashi from Naruto; Gojo Satoru from JJK; and the one I most recently became aware of, but apparently came out before JJK, Qifrey from Witch Hat Atelier. Seriously, the resemblance between the three is uncanny.
What’s interesting to me is that none of these three are a textbook fit for “the mentor” archetype, although Gojo is closest.
Typically, the mentor is a wizened hermit who advises the main character on the Hero’s Journey. (Think Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dumbledore, but the first use of this archetype comes from the Odyssey!) They teach the hero important skills and life lessons, back the hero up in their goals, and usually die so the hero can achieve the final goal of the whole journey. (That’s why Gojo fits this archetype closest; he dies and Yuji steps up to defeat Sukuna and become the strongest sorcerer.)
What’s nice about these three is that each one’s backstory is filled with a lot of details to the point they could be classified as the deuteragonist or tritagonist. They aren’t JUST a side piece to the main character. (I love it when authors flesh out their characters.) They also aren’t too old. They are at most 40 years old, which is another way they stray from the archetype.
I don’t know exactly what inspiration the artists had, but it’s an cool contrast of their overall youthful appearance with white hair making them look much older, and the single visible eye implying an injury and rough life. (It could also be pulling from Norse mythology of Odin, with all the implications of that, ie wisdom and hidden knowledge from sacrifice.)
I don’t know, I could go a lot deeper on what I find so fascinating about their similarities and differences, but it’s late and my thoughts are approaching the coherence of children’s writing. I just find it very funny that this kind of guy has shown up not once, not twice, but three times.
Made questionable decisions about studying for one class. It’s my last semester before I graduate and I am prepping for the final, and I’m seeing the consequences of my actions.

I've read time travels I've read he's Mando leader guy Ive read "the tag said fox but he's here every 3rd chapter" just for My Boy and I'm desperate. I Miss My Son, worm!! Bro I am literally putting Obi-wan in rooms, in situations with clones he's never shared on screen space or dialogue with let alone been referenced in the same media, I understand the "maybe I'm filtering to hard" or "i cant find the right tag to use".
hopefully someone around here has like a fox fic tier list, I've read in him beside Obi-wan which limits it down from already slim pickings slimmer,

The Way of All Traitors by yellow_caballero is probs the most extensive clone fic that Fox keeps haunting through, I don't think if your after that Fox itch it will scratch it as it will make an open wound but it is heavy hitter fic rec wise

and a lot of other Foxobi stuff I read are often very short, and scandalous that I dont want to make easy for you all to raise your eyebrows at me for! Though there are a few long very thoughough Fox fics in the Fox/Obi tag so maybe you will find something
OUGHHH I cant find it but theres this oen Quinfox fic where clones are just thrown through time and on Melidann with padaw -Obi and Fox is not happy at all but I couldn't find it off the top of my brain
