Sage of Water, Queen of Your Heart

“Me? Gone for so long? Hah, as if!!” ...She’s not exactly aware of the passage of time, now is she? It had been at least awhile, right...? M-maybe a few days...?

Look, as long as nobody important is dead it doesn’t matter too much, right?

It was rare for him to get sick, the last he could remember having a cold he was just a small child. Even then he can remember not exactly taking it with stride like other’s probably would over a simple cold. 

He did wonder, since Ruto was a sage did that mean she could help him recover faster? He hoped so, the sooner he was out of bed and in the grass the better. 

Given that chuu jelly didn’t taste the greatest, he was prepared for the taste of the awful potion. His head had slowly nodded, although rather regretfully. Link reluctantly tried to sit up so he could have his potion, eyeing the suspicious color of the liquid in the bottle. 

“If i was able to defeat Ganondorf, then i am sure I will be able to defeat this cold.” He said, although it was most reassurance for himself rather than for anyone else.

“That’s the spirit!” She said with a little laugh, though there was some doubts on how ready he exactly would be... Ruto since learned that even those who thought they spoke lies learned a very good lesson when it came to certain things from the Zora, especially within the realm of medicine. They work, but the taste is almost always guaranteed to be unpleasant.

“There you go,” she encouraged gently, free hand already hovering to ensure he was okay before anything else. Once he was settled, she held the bottle up with both hands. “In my experience, it’s best to drink as much as possible while plugging up your nose. Muffles the bad taste a little. The good news is that it goes away fairly easily with even just water, so both should help take the taste away after this.”

It was kind of funny, she thought in sudden realization, that in this moment, the great Hero of Time, savior of Hyrule...was being treated like a kid. The Sage had long lost her time of being treated as such by anyone aside from her father and had practically taken on the role of queen without ever having to give away her hand. (Something she was grateful every day for; she still was nervous about admitting to her father she’d given the Zora’s Sapphire to Link. No matter how much he liked him, marriage was a whole ‘nother level...and that wasn’t even regarding the rules of the Realm. What a hassle!)

Still, it was kind of fun to look after him like this. Fun and gave her the little pride of being able to help him when he was down... Something she wished she had the honor to do more of.

“It’s no problem, Link.” Despite the whole situation, the Zoran princess couldn’t help but smile softly throughout the preparations for caring for the hero’s cold. It was still a bit of a struggle to be within a town and away from constant humidity or a close water source, but for her ailing fiance? It was worth it.

Besides, her new Sage status meant she could survive longer away from the water than usual, which was a nice bonus.

“Now, first here we have a potion made by my people for this sort of thing... It’s going to be gross, I will admit that, but that’s why we got a nice little meal for you here.” Ruto gestured to the tray that had water and soup; things that should be gentle on the hero’s stomach, just in case.

“You may have taken down evils...but are you ready to take down this cold?” The Sage teased, sitting down on a chair beside the bed with a playful look as she popped open the bottle that held an unappealing, moss-green liquid inside.

Nowadays, whenever one wanted to find the Sage of Water, they either had to find their way into Zora’s Domain or simply take one of the longest walks over to Lake Hylia, where she might sometimes be due to the connection Zora’s Domain had to it. Besides, the open body of water was freeing and it held her temple within it’s depths. It was here she’d come back to first before setting on her way home.

It’s how she returned that day, having had to return to the Sacred Realm for a quick check up and talk between Sages. With that over with, even if just for the moment, Ruto was free to return to her domain and oversee her people once more... Something she really began to appreciate more since becoming a Sage and realizing she wouldn’t have much a part in their lives anymore.

It was her new role to hold the title of Sage of Water until she faded away and someone new rose up to take her place, and everyone else’s. They’d all seen the timelines.

Shaking the darker thoughts of life and death from her head, Ruto prepared herself to take a jump into the lake’s waters to swim home, but once again found herself pausing as footsteps made themselves known on the bridge to her left. The Zoran princess hadn’t known what to expect, but she smiled brightly nonetheless at the familiar figure.

“Why, is that you, Sheik? It feels like it’s been ages! How are you?”

when I heard that she was announced as a playable character, I got super excited. I just really like water-element fighting :’D Although getting her Lv. 3 weapon was crazy hard and crazy annoying, it was worth it B)

Smirking a little, the blonde began to clump together a ball of snow. “Ruto! Think fast!” He called out as he threw the snowball at her. Wait, did zoras know how to play a good game of snowball fight? Surely they would right?

“Wha-?” The Zoran barely had enough time to turn around before the snowball whacked her in the face, hitting just at the right speed and time to knock the princess off her feet and into the snow. Ruto blinked in surprise as the snow fell off her person, staring at Link.

Did he really just...?

“You wanna get going, huh?” She snapped playfully, standing back up with some snow in her hands. “Then you better get a head start, Hero!! Hiyah!” She tossed her own snowball at Link with a laugh. If the Hero of Time dared stand against the Water Sage in a snowball fight, then so be it!!
