a museum was a wonderful place to gather up information about this wretched town and that is what Rebekah needed, because after all knowledge is power. She no longer wanted to be blindsided by anybody’s actions, maybe here she could figure what her brother is scheming up. As she was walking through the door, she had heard the girl speaking nonsense from a distance. ❝ FASCINATING ❞she emphasized with a smug grin and an eyeroll, ❝ I know a smidge of bulgarian myself. Не давам нищо. which means I don’t give a DAMN.❞ rebekah walked towards the girl, wandering her eyes on the ancient artifacts, but suddenly raised her eyebrows at the girl’s questioning he presence. ❝ does it look like a give a bloody hell if it’s late. YOU are nobody to tell me where I should or should not be. hm well maybe you’d be interested in this ancient sword piercing through your heart.❞
“another original.” veronika groaned resisting the urge to toss the ancient book across the room and straight into her skull. the bindings were too fragile for that. with all that was going on everything else seemed to be creeping up on her. “i know what it means, i am bulgarian.” she bit her tug, resisting the urge to tack something more sinsiter onto the end of that sentence. “i’m not telling you where you should be rebekah. i’m telling you that the museum is closed and it is my museum. i don’t have time to deal with your games or threats nor do i enjoy them. kill me if you must but first, at least tell me what your doing here. if you’re here hounding after your brother i must admit we’re of the same mind, my sister of course katerina. i don’t know where his and i don’t know what he’s up to. does that satisfy your bloodlust?”
hcrohxir:
a pit of dread filled him as she confirmed his suspicions, however the thought of her still being alive didn’t even cross his mind. it couldn’t, because had spent so long accepting that fact and besides, blaming her for everything bad he had been through was much easier to do with her being dead. the expression on his face only hardened, jaw clenching and fists bunching up at his sides, trying to keep his composure. “well, if you’re looking for her, you’re a hundred and fifty four years late. katherine’s dead.”
the words hit her like a freight train. dead. it weighed heavy on her chest and she stumbled back in shock, tripping over her own feet. her purse scattered across the leaf covered road and she could feel her breath quickening and growing shallower. veronika’s eyes went wide and she stared for a moment until the went dark. she charged on the boy grasping his collar with a ferocity she didn’t know she possessed. “listen you child i do not take liars lightly. if you’re lying to me i swear to whatever god there is i will have your head on a silver platter and serve it to whatever descendants you have left. are we clear?” she bit the words out, cold and hard. for a second the image of her sister shimmered in her, clear as the moon.”
hcrohxir:
it was the moment she said that she was bulgarian that stefan made the connection in his mind. he didn’t know much about katherine, anything at all, really. not how old she was, not what really happened to her family or anything, but he did remember one night her mentioning in a casual dinner conversation that her family was of bulgarian decent. and as he looked at the girl in front of him, the resemblance was there. her words about the museum were lost to him, mere noise going into one ear and out the other. “sister?” he asked with furrowed brows. “who’s your sister?”
veronika’s face fell swiftly as the realization dawned on. “dear god what has she done this time?” she muttered, energy draining by the second. she rustled uncomfortably and prepared for a fight. “listen whatever katerina has done this time i’m sorry but i can’t help you. if it’s already done it’s done and i can’t be held accountable for the bullshit she pulls. or katherine, whatever name she goes by these days. i lost track quite honestly.”
frayedmartyr:
with glasses perked on the tip of her nose, vibrant hazel eyes would scan the lines written in the book before her. a distant noise would make a d i s t r a c t e d mind remove itself from the aura of deep concentration. questionable eyes would meet orbs of mystified origins.
veronika raised one perfectly manicured eyebrow towards the girl. she pursed her lips tightly in a feigned smile and closed her laptop. “can i help you with something or are you just going to continue staring?”
bastxrdchild:
since arriving in town klaus had everything he ever hoped for fall right into his hands. the only thing he was tasked with finding would be the moonstone, but he had multiple people out searching for it and didn’t expect to take too long to come across one. soon he would go from vampire to hybrid. that thought alone pleased him more than anything else in his long and eventful life. he found himself pretending to admire the scenery in daytime hours before he had a meeting to keep up his humble facade. “truth be told, i’ve grown fond of this town in a short period of time.” he spoke with a friendly smile on his face to anyone in earshot, though he was lying; he could not wait to leave. “it is all rather picturesque, no?“
“ah, klaus. figures you’d be skulking around here.” veronika said, snapping shut her pocketbook. she’d met him a few times before on her travels. never pleasant but never enough to cause her any real troubles. “i’m not particularly fond of it at all. it seems like every other hodunk town i’ve ever been through. plus there’s the matter of the council. it’s beyond me why everyone’s gathered here when they could be somewhere else like montepulciano, italy.”
hcrohxir:
nodding with a small, polite smile as the girl extended her hand, stefan met her hand with his own, a gentle grip as he gave it a light shake before pulling away. the amount of new people in town mixed with the ‘animal attacks’ he’s been seeing on the news made him wary of the woman. he didn’t want anyone making this town the paranoid place it was in 1864. “stefan salvatore.” he said before tucking his hands into his pockets. “yeah, i transferred over from another town. and you? are you from here?”
“ah no. i’m from seattle, though my family is bulgarian. i’m here...visiting... my sister.” she said, teeth gritted. a colder breeze picked up rustling the leaves on the ground. the sharp tang of autumn filled her nose and she inhaled, hyperaware of everything around her. “i’m the curator at the mystic falls history museum. you kids should come down sometime. i promise nothing in there bites, well at least not anymore.”
ofbrokenxmorality:
“Hush, i’m not telling you to murder a family…-I am suggesting you let loose a little..” he retorted it was a lie of course, he’d much prefer the first option but he’d work with what he had. “Live your immortal existence and stop worrying about…her.” he suggested before his features dropped once more.
He hummed in a calculated way, pressing his lips together before he spoke again. “Then perhaps you can simply concentrate on keeping the doppelganger alive, I’ll deal with your sister…make her realize her wrong doings?” he added with a nod, he didn’t need someone who was so unsure but then again he wasn’t sure how he would react; he hoped he’d happily go through with his plans.
“I do let loose. I’m the most laid back person you know. See this coffee got cold and I haven’t even thrown it away yet.” Veronika said assuredly. “It’s not that easy. You’re not her sister. I have a responsibility to make sure she doesn’t completely destroy the Petrova name. It’s what my parents would want.” She sighed, groping the wall towards a bench.
“Alek do me a favor and then next time I want to stick my nose in something hit me. It’s exhausting enough dealing with her.” Thoughts stirred in her head uneasily. This whole ordeal seemed a bit much at this point. “I’ll just focus on the doppleganger right now. You do what you want. You’re a free man and i’m too stressed to police your decisions.”
hcrohxir:
as the girl turned around, he couldn’t help but slightly furrow his brows. he had never seen the girl in his life, yet there was something eerily familiar about her, something that reminded him of someone, he just didn’t know what it was. “it happens to the best of us right?” he said offering a small smile. “i’m stefan, by the way.”
she noticed his lack of heartbeat all too quickly and it clicked. the strange air with which he carried himself was the air that hung, stale and misused, around all of them. he was young, she noted. younger than her when she was turned. turning on her full petrova charm and she stuck her hand out, ever the professional. “i’m veronika petrova. it’s a pleasure to meet you. do you go to the high school here?”
ofbrokenxmorality:
The Bulgarian curse words did nothing but cause him to let out an amused chuckle, thanking her in Bulgarian before he allowed a grin to remain on his lips. He’d certainly at one point-at least the time she was aware of-been led by his feelings and emotions, though that hadn’t been the case for centuries now he happily recalled the year he slaughtered his first village with nothing but amusement with no feelings or emotions tying him down.
“And you are too moral for your own good…-does it not get boring being so…good all the time, you know letting you’re bitch of a sisters issues not fall on your shoulders could be a great change for you.” he added with a smirk. “Oh come on, I want exactly what you want…except i’m willing to see her as miserable as possible in the process.”
“Too moral for my own good? Is that supposed to be an insult Aleksander. I’d like to live normally. Forgive me if I don’t enjoy the hunt, I’d much rather live to my fullest potential then run around lusting and murdering, fun as it may seem. Not being a human doesn’t mean you have to live like a savage.”
Veronika frowned disapprovingly, adorning an all too familiar cold expression. “Don’t call her a bitch, I don’t like that word.” She paused, unsure, drawing in a sharp breath and wagged her head. “I don’t know what I want okay. Is that what you wanted to hear? I just-I just want her to realize what she’s done. To feel something for once. To look back at the trail she made i’ve been cleaning up for years.”
ofbrokenxmorality:
He watched her speak, tuning in to the parts that somehow felt useful or needed, his features appearing as if in a trance like state while he did so. “Right…-Elena.” he nodded in understanding, making it a mission to appear as if he cared enough about such things-even if the girl reminded him of the Katerina he’d once searched for-he was far from being all but willing to protect her or at least he would because it’d piss off Katherine.
“Oh no, not at all V.” he offered a small and seemingly fake grin. “From what I hear people with grand plans tend to have a reason for making them…my guess is fear and people who are scared mess up, which I personally can’t wait to see.” those words were his most honest yet, in the mean time he’d be sure to have his own fun-even if the council happened to be sniffing around.
Veronika rolled her eyes listlessly, Bulgarian swear words softly muttered under her breath. He had always been like this, unapologetically cheeky. She found herself to be the polar opposite of both him and her sister. She was always the rational one, the responsible one. It was exhausting sometimes to always use her mind and never exercise her heart. But it was better this way.
“Aleksander you...talk too much.” She decided, leaning back against the wall where they stood. “It’s not that I don’t want to see it. Just knowing her once she explodes someone is bound to get hurt in the process. I’d like to get through this little tantrum of hers with minimal ordeal. Personally I’d just like to go back to Seattle but it always has to be her way.”
hcrohxir:
out of all the places he’s lived, he never thought he’d come back home. but he was here, looking to feel alive again, because maybe, just maybe, if he pretends to be human, he’ll start to truly be one instead of being a blood lusting vampire, constantly on the verge of snapping. he was lost in his own thoughts as he walked, hands in the pockets of his leather jacket and head down, before he saw someone in front of him drop something without realizing it. lifting the item off the floor, he picked up his pace as he followed after them, placing a gentle hand on their arm once he caught up to them. “excuse me. think you dropped this.”
she was mission oriented at this point. her caramel brown eyes were fixated on the path she was following. somewhere along the way her sister had been here. and not even a pencil skirt and jimmy choo stilettos were going to stop her from finding out. the voice startled her until she turned, just a boy. “oh thank you. i suppose i didn’t see it when it fell. i was moving too quickly.”
“iskate li da tancuvame. it means would you like to dance with me, it’s bulgarian.” veronika sighed, letting the book thump against her desk, an ominous echo ringing out through the empty museum. dust fluttered from its pages, polluting the air with the same feeling it did her mind. “it’s late. what are you doing here. you should be at home. whatever it is i’m not interested.”
ofbrokenxmorality:
A small and considerably amused chuckle passed his lips, she was one of the few people he felt some responsibility over which was certainly the reason he’d made no attempt to cut any ties. “Save the lectures for the people who’s lungs can be damaged, i’m positive mine can’t V.”
His words remained at least semi-warm, briefly bringing the cigarette from his lips. “Let me guess you heard about the doppelganger too or are you simply here hoping to see…’Katherine’.” he cared little for such a fact, though he remained curious as to why she was here and if in turn she had any plans he could ruin.
“By god i’m here to see Katerina. I haven’t seen that witch in twenty years I wouldn’t actively seek her out now. I’m here about to doppleganger, someone has to make sure she doesn’t ruin the poor girl’s life.” Veronika pinched the bridge of her nose, fighting the stirring headache that came with discussion of her sister. “Is it strange to say I miss when she was just skulking around and eating people? At least that was more manageable than this grand plan i’m sure she has. Figures even after five hundred years I still have to clean up her mess.”
ofbrokenxmorality:
A calculated breath past his lips as he lit the cigarette, allowing for a moment to pass before before he gave a planned smile offering the stranger a spare cigarette; if he wished to know more about this town, then getting to know the way the people ticked seemed like the perfect plan.
“You want one?…-” his words seemed warm, of course he’d made them so in order to present himself as a friendly face even when he was far from being one. “Alek by the way…-it’s nice to meet you.”
“Really Aleksander.” she said, beyond the point of disbelief. she shrugged a chill off and turned to him, flicking her dark hair to the side of her neck. She’d seen him around town but despite herself had never had the courage to approach him. Veronika surveyed him, all those years but he stayed the same. That aspect of their condition never failed to shock her. “It’s a disgusting habit. I don’t know how you keep up with it.
