smiling, zhiruo reached over to ruffle up meng’s hair a bit. she had remembered her own struggles, coming from her own dance crew in china all the way to korea, definitely under prepared for what she had needed to be. so whenever new age got chinese trainees, she did whatever she could to help them adjust as quickly as possible to an entirely new country, and a lot of the time, it came down to helping them with the language. “oh come on though! you’re the one that’s put in all the hard work. i just translated a few things,” she assured, ignoring how her neck started to feel warmer. getting anything akin to compliments and accepting them in a graceful manner was never her strong point.

zhiruo just raised an eyebrow to the snappy response, crossing her arms across her chest. “if you didn’t need the pointers on your sloppy form, then you would already have been debut by now, right? but fine, whatever.. i was just trying to lend a helping hand, but i’ll leave if it’s really that much of a bother to you”

straightening out before standing up, zhiruo dusted off her clothes. today was just that kind of day where nothing seemed to go right, and that included this very moment. why couldn’t the kid have been literally anywhere else in this forsaken building? “yes, i’m _fine_,” she hissed, frowning when she looked up at him “and why are you hiding out in this hall? don’t you have somewhere to be?”

“i don’t think reading into it is stupid. probably the opposite, honestly.. best to be mentally prepared for something like debuting, rather than be caught by surprise, y’know?” zhiruo shrugged. she was just happy that the company was recognizing mengxia at least. too many companies pushed foreign idols to the side. “and duh, of course they have plans for you! they’re wanting to get people’s eyes on you now, and that’s always a good sign”

sure, hwayoung had approximately 2 lines of her own in the entire song, but she didn’t particularly care about that. dispatch called distich-g one of the most powerful girl groups in the game at the moment. to be recognized on such a large scale so soon after their debut made hwayoung’s head spin. the choreography was one of her favorites, the song was high-energy and catchy, and she couldn’t be more proud of her members for all the hard work they’d put into making adios the best it could be. she couldn’t stop smiling, her cheeks starting to get sore. “i still can’t believe dispatch said that about us. i’m – usually people are upset when dispatch writes something about them, but this is… wow.” she trailed off, hands on her cheeks, still in disbelief. 

seeing the almost manic smile across hwayoung’s face was enough to make zhiruo smile too. it was crazy seeing how quickly distich was catching waves among the netizens, both their boy and girl groups.. but personally, she was especially proud of the girls. in her eyes, with co-ed groups, the girls always seemed to be pushed aside or forgotten about somehow. well distich-g was definitely making it hard for people to forget about them, and she loved all of it. if they managed to catch a win with the song, she was thinking of putting in a dance cover on instagram.. maybe she’d rope hwayoung into it if she could get away with such a thing, actually. “see, it just means that you girls are on the path of world domination! i can practically smell the world tour already”

“You know… I really think I take issue with how tiktok made whipped coffee look like it’s super easy and quick to make. Do you know how long I was standing around just whisking it? It was ages, I swear,” Hinata complained, though she knows it was an incredibly silly complaint.

“couldn’t you just... use an electric mixer to make it? why on earth are you doing it by hand?” zhiruo questioned, raising an eyebrow. her life philosophy was work smarter, not harder... and hinata definitely was making this coffee stuff the hard way. “also everything on the internet is edited to look super easy and fantastic, it’s how they get their clicks. haven’t you seen any of those food hack busting videos on youtube?”

Jaewook really wasn’t quite sure how it was him of all people to get roped into doing dance covers out of all of Liberty’s artists – Sikyung, sure, he could understand, she was a dancer in her group. Or even Minsoon, who he wasn’t sure why he was in a band in the first place. But Jaewook had no business being here, and his poor overworked heart agreed with him at the moment. He was doubled over, trying to catch his breath and was well aware of just how pathetic it looked. “I’m sorry – just give me a minute, please…”

looking over at jaewook, zhiruo had to stifle that grin that was threatening to take over her face as she watched him struggle to catch his breath. she always thought that it was fun working with newbies to dancing, because of course she understood just how exhausting the activity was and how hard it was to make it look good. the art of making something look effortless, in fact, took a lot of effort. “no worries! take all the time that you need, we have a couple of more hours slotted for practicing, so we can take breaks as needed. i wasn’t expecting to get things perfect on the first day anyways,” she explained as she went over to get a water bottle, coming back to him and offering it out to him “is this really your first experience really dancing? like, at all?”

zhiruo watched jace as he struggled, just grinning to herself as she went over to grab her phone to scroll around through her music to give him the chance to recover. “are you at least having some fun through all of this? there’s not a whole lot of point in suffering if you’re not able to find some enjoyment in what you’re doing”

after taking in the scene, zhiruo went over to get bag and pulled out a water bottle, coming back over to bohye and holding it out to her. she sometimes didn’t understand how idols weren’t able to keep up with her, but she always had to remind herself that not everyone had been dancing for most of their life. or as hard as she had been for most of it. after all, she’d been in her own busking group since she was fourteen. “we can start again once you’re able to breathe again, don’t worry”

sighing, zhiruo just nodded. “five minutes and then we’re going to get back into it. if you ever want to build up your stamina, then stopping every time something gets hard isn’t going to do you any good,” she advised. she never saw a point in doing any of those things, they just killed your ability to put on the best performance. it seemed silly to her. “besides, you should stop smoking. it ruins your voice and like you said, you can only do three performances a day. you should be in a condition to do a full concert”

“not quitting! just…um…postponing?” jace offered weakly. “listen, i haven’t had any major choreography since i was a trainee. these muscles are…..resting.”

zhiruo couldn’t help but laugh a little bit as she hear what jace had to say, shaking her head softly. “there’s no time to change like the present then, better late than never. this will be a whole new side for your fans to see of you! here, we can take five, but then we’re getting back into it, alright?”

“that’s why your footwork was messy, you know” zhiruo pointed out, raising an eyebrow as she looked at solhee. “when you’re dancing, you need to focus on it. it’s the same that whenever you’re performing a song- you need to be focused in on it, or the details that make the song will slip through the cracks. what’s on your mind that’s distracting you?”

“i’m not tired! just…..really confused,” jinhwa admitted, crossing her arms and cocking her head to the side. “sorry. i got lost about halfway through. i’m not as good of a dancer as my brother is…”

“oh, sorry, i didn’t notice that. but you should have said something! i would’ve stopped earlier,” she pointed out with a small laugh. “if you’re struggling, point it out to me and we can start from there. it’s no problem, really. we’re doing this to help you, remember?”

“i don’t even know why i’m doing this,” ahki answered with a pout and a sour look on her face. “it’s not like i’m ever going to get to dance with my group. and if anyone in heart 2 heart is getting solo stages, it’s not me. so why does it even matter?”

“it matters because it’ll do you good to be well rounded. maybe your company will see that work and decide to give you the solo stage!” zhiruo suggested, shrugging a little bit before stretching out her arms “seriously though, come on. i’m not going to let you give up or anything”
