i actually want to put driver side by side with k bladerunner2049. and just sorta look at them. two guard dogs. one is manufactured and one is a metaphor. boys who bleed out alone, having lost and saved inverses: driver whose father figure is dead but at least he saved the girl, and k whose girlfriend is dead but at least he kept the man he thought was his father alive, even knowing now that it was never his father at all, and driver knowing that he's ruined any chance he had of being with irene anyway. i don't know, there's something there. driver says to irene that she could take the money if she wanted and he could go with them and look out for them. keep them safe. guard dog. he doesn't carry a gun because he doesn't need to, to be dangerous. k doesn't think he has a soul. puts his computer program girlfriend in his pocket so she can see the world, brings her with him to protect himself, loses her by having her in the first place. would've been better off never having anyone, but that's no way to live. sounds like someone else i know.
