Another Liu Kang x Sonya pic I generated.
For this one, I wanted to use a location that was authentic to the visual style and feel of the movie, so I went with this Chinese garden, which suits Liu Kang's background, and the Blue lighting mirrors the film's production design.
Mortal Kombat on film - the branching timeline
A proper film trilogy circa 1995-2002.
The actual 90s movies continued by a standalone sequel trilogy in the 2000s.
A proper reboot franchise.
What we got now.
Some Mortal Kombat trios I came up with.
Obviously, there's Liu Kang/Sonya/Johnny Cage, and Liu Kang/Kitana/Kung Lao.
However, I can see some timelines where it's Liu Kang/Kitana/Johnny Cage and/or Liu Kang/Sonya/Kung Lao.
Which trio do you like better?
Liu Kang/Kitana/Johnny Cage
Liu Kang/Sonya/Kung Lao
Both is good
Mortal Kombat movie debate: round 2 - which was better?
Mortal Kombat II (2026)
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge
Which Mortal Kombat movie do you feel is the best?
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Mortal Kombat II (2026)
Mortal Kombat II: The Liu Kang Cut - alternate fight scenes
Most of the fight scenes up until Johnny Cage vs. Baraka are mostly the same as they were in the actual movie, including Liu Kang vs. Kung Lao, which is easily the best fight in the movie.
Liu Kang, Kitana, Sonya, Jax and Johnny Cage vs. Shao Kahn + Outworld guards
Jax still dies. Kitana tries to fight Kahn, but gets subdued and taken away while Liu Kang, Sonya and Johnny retreat with Kano and Jade after they betray Kahn.
Liu Kang, Kitana and Sonya vs. Shao Kahn
After Raiden motivates Liu Kang, he and Sonya go to Kahn's Arena and free Kitana from her chains. She switches to Earthrealm, and the three heroes face Kahn together.
Kahn overwhelms them, and injures Sonya, eliminating her. Liu Kang and Kitana keep fighting Kahn together until he becomes mortal thanks to Johnny, Jade, Kano and Scorpion destroying the amulet.
Kitana wounds Kahn with her steel fan, but gets knocked out and eliminated, leaving just Liu Kang and Shao Kahn.
Liu Kang vs. Shao Kahn
Initially, Kahn overwhelms Liu Kang and taunts him like he would in the games. Liu Kang then remembers his allies (Kitana, Sonya, Raiden, Kung Lao, Johnny), and declares "I am the chosen one".
Liu Kang pummels Kahn with fists and fire until the match ends with Liu Kang yanking Kahn's throat out and ramming his fist through his face, finally killing him for good.
And those are all the alternate fight scenes in my alternate version of the MK2 movie.
Mortal Kombat II: The Liu Kang Cut (an alternate version I came up with)
Note: I do like the actual movie, but admittedly, there were some things I would have done differently.
The movie begins with a prologue showcasing the fall of Edenia with Jerrod being killed by Shao Kahn in the 10th Mortal Kombat tournament between Edenia and Outworld.
After the prologue, we cut to Raiden's sky temple where Liu Kang is mourning Kung Lao after his death in the 2021 movie. Sonya comforts Liu Kang, who doubts himself over whether or not he can live up to the legacy of his ancestor - The Great Kung Lao.
Sonya goes with Raiden and they recruit Johnny Cage as the fifth champion fighting for Earthrealm alongside Sonya, Liu Kang, Jax and Cole Young. However, Johnny is skeptical over the tournament after learning the stakes from Liu Kang and Sonya.
Meanwhile, back in Outworld, Quan Chi revives Kung Lao, Bi Han and Kano. While Kung Lao is a Revenant, and Bi Han is a wraith, Kano remains unchanged due to his already corrupt nature.
The tournament begins with Sonya vs. Sindel as a Revenant, and Johnny Cage vs. Kitana. Sonya manages to kill Sindel while Kitana defeats Johnny, but spares him. It's later revealed that Kitana is aligned with Raiden and the Earthrealm heroes, but Jade reluctantly confronts her for betraying Shao Kahn.
Meanwhile, Kano gives Quan Chi the amulet of Shinnok after he stole it from Raiden's temple in MK 2021. Kung Lao and the Deadly Alliance wound Raiden and steal a chunk of his power for the amulet, which they bind to Shao Kahn, making him immortal.
Round 2 begins with Liu Kang vs. Kung Lao. The heart-wrenching battle ends with Liu Kang reluctantly killing Kung Lao, but promising to save him one day. Jax fights Jade, and spares her to repay what Kitana did to Johnny. Cole fights Shao Kahn, but despite wounding him, Kahn heals and kills Cole.
The heroes realize that they can't defeat Kahn while he has the amulet, so they travel to a Tarkatan village. Baraka initially rejects the heroes' offer to help, but after being defeated by Johnny, he gains their trust and guides them to a hidden entrance below Shao Kahn's palace.
Kitana is captured, and Shao Kahn has her chained to the colosseum. The Earthrealm heroes try to retrieve the amulet, but Jax is killed by Shao Kahn. Kano ends up betraying Shao Kahn due to his preference for Earthrealm over Outworld, and joins the trio as they retreat back to Raiden's temple. Wishing to atone for her actions, Jade joins them too.
A weakened Raiden tells Liu Kang that he is Earthrealm’s greatest hope, and that Edenia can be restored if he helps Kitana face Shao Kahn. Sonya agrees to fight by Liu Kang's side while Johnny, Jade and Kano agree to go to the Netherrealm.
At Kahn’s colosseum, Liu Kang and Sonya free Kitana, who then switches her allegiance to Earthrealm. The three face Shao Kahn in a final battle, but are ultimately overwhelmed by him. In the Netherrealm, Johnny, Jade and Kano meet Scorpion, who then helps them fight Bi Han.
Eventually, they destroy the amulet, which restores Raiden's full power, and ultimately makes Kahn mortal. The Deadly Alliance also try to finish their task of killing Raiden, but he overwhelms the two sorcerers, forcing them to retreat.
With Shao Kahn weakened, Liu Kang subdues him, allowing Kitana to land the killing blow on the emperor. With Edenia restored, Kitana becomes its queen, and Liu Kang takes his place as Earthrealm’s champion.
In the aftermath, Raiden gathers Liu Kang, Sonya, Johnny, Kitana, Jade, Baraka and Kano as they prepare to save their fallen allies.
To be kontinued...
Some pretty big Liu Kang x Sonya crumbs in this movie, even if they didn't intend on that (we'll likely still get Liutana and CageBlade).
Sonya even calls Liu Kang the best fighter they have. Plus, them fighting Shao Kahn together near the end.
Mortal Kombat II (2026) - A significant improvement from its predecessor
Initially, I was skeptical of this sequel due to the current state of the MK franchise with Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) and some previous MK movies being underwhelming, like MK 2021 and Battle of the Realms.
But upon seeing the movie in the theater, I must say I had fun with it.
The plot did drag on a bit during the first act, but once the tournament begins, the movie is nonstop action while still juggling its own lore.
The cast was pretty solid, for the most part. Karl Urban definitely works as an older Johnny Cage, and Adeline Rudolph was solid as Kitana. The rest of the cast don't have as much development, but they still had their moments to shine, particularly Ludi Lin as Liu Kang and Josh Lawson as Kano.
A side note: This might be my imagination, but I genuinely saw Liu Kang x Sonya crumbs in the movie. 👀
The visuals were much better than the previous movie with some bigger locations inspired by the game's stages. The only gripe I had with them was that the special FX can indeed vary in quality.
But ultimately, this is a Martial Arts action movie based on a fighting game, and in that aspect, it delivers. The fight scenes are well choreographed, filmed and even edited. Plus, you have some gleefully gruesome fatalities and gore. The standout fight for me is Liu Kang vs. Kung Lao.
When it comes to Mortal Kombat movies, this is easily better than MK 2021. However, I still feel the 1995 original is the best, or at least my favorite.
With that being said, I genuinely feel this was better than all the other MK movies, except for maybe Scorpion's Revenge, though this is on that same level for me...maybe even better, depending on my mood. But yeah, definitely leagues better than Annihilation and Battle of the Realms.
I definitely look forward to MK3 when it comes out, and hopefully, they can make a whole franchise out of this.
My latest Liu Kang drawing, in honor of the MK2 movie.
If Liu Kang and Sonya were to be together...who would be a better fit for Kitana?
Johnny Cage
Sub-Zero/Kuai Liang

- Kitana - Jennifer Connelly
- Jade - Tia Carrere
- Sonya Blade - Cameron Diaz
- Baraka - Dennis Keiffer
- Jax - Michael Jai White
- Raiden - Christopher Lambert
- Shang Tsung - Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

I have been hearing great things about MK2, and I'm actually wanting to see it when it comes out.
Liu Kang and Sonya Blade sharing a deep, romantic kiss.
My latest image I generated of what it could have been like if Kane didn't unmask in 2003, and if he had a strong push with him winning the World Heavyweight championship around that time.
It's basically an inverted version of his outfit from 2002, and it looks similar to the outfit he wore at Survivor Series 2001.
