The Grand Central Terminal’s main concourse became the focal point of the newly designed terminal in Whitney Warren’s revised concept, based on the Gare d’Orsay railway station (later Musee d'Orsay) in Paris, designed by Victor Laloux (drawing 1898 – Musee d’Orsay)

New York Public Library, Main Reading Room - one of the great rooms in America. Designed by architects Carrere & Hastings, both trained at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Opened 1911.

230 Park Ave, formerly the Helmsley Bldg, originally NY Central RR Office Bldg, Designed by Warren & Wetmore (Grand Central Terminal) 1929, part of the Grand Central Zone (Terminal City) plan. Note the 2 vehicular archways for wrap around traffic arteries bypassing the terminal to connect Park Ave with Park Ave South. The building sits at the southern base of Park Ave looking north - landmarked 1987. NYPL Digital Archives

Welcome to Paris, the City That Said No to Cars

Outgoing Mayor Anne Hidalgo leaves the city more walkable, bikable, greener and cleaner.

It's so impressive what's been done in Paris to reduce the number of cars, increase pedestrian and green space, and clean up the Seine - even making it swimable. Air pollution in the city has been reduced by more than a third.
