these are the things you hear people mutter in church on sunday, when the gossip comes out and the preachings go unheard. these are the last things you ever hear about helena barley; the gossip of bored housewives and their younger, thinner duplicates in training on one sunday morning. and then the talk of her fades into background noise, and helena’s disappearance itself has all but vanished. from the tabloids, from the police’s radio calls, from the townsfolk themselves.
