it's weird. you grow up, people can clock you as asian, but you don't feel any connection with your culture no matter how much you want to. even if you were raised as apart of it — the feeling just shifts to not being apart of your culture enough.

too white to be asian; too asian to be white. treated like you're asian by nonasians; treated like you're white by other asians. does that make sense? it's how i've always felt, growing up. you're not enough of either to belong to one or the other, but you're too much of them both to blend in in either.

MEANING ;; This is extremely self indulgent lol. We have an easier time being open about our blackness because its more "visible" than our asian half. But we're still nikkei, we want to be openly and proudly nikkei. We choose the skipper butterfly for this flag because some (wrongly) consider it a non-butterfly moth even though it shares all phylogenetic and morphologic traits of a butterfly, therefore it should be classified as a butterfly, something we somewhat relate to when it comes to our asian ancestry.
